Bravo! I have been watching tons of these types of talks over the years and I must say this is one of the best I have ever seen on these topics. I can see why they would rope Prof Gumede into negotiations. He is like the wise and respected adult in the room of emotional self absorbed teenagers. An extremely well informed pragmatic and deep thinker. A much needed elixir to the discourse of our time. I think our current crop of public figures can learn a great deal here. Set aside your ego and ideology for the sake of what is actually best for the country and the people. This is not only true for politicians but I believe for the public as well. We should take our country to our place on the world stage as a shining example of the strength of diversity by embracing our commonality. We can do it!
Sometimes the softly spoken gentleman in the background is actually the real powerhouse. Its a pity Prof Gumede does not want to be part of politics. He would make a excellent leader!

We are struggling because we based our constitution & economics on the Roman-Dutch law and the Uk, why? I call upon all academics to learn about pre colonial Afrikan as much as they have learned about post colonial Afrika then build system based on Afrikan values but also that can link with the global world. Patriarchy is a Roman-Dutch principle, not African. That is the reason in SA we only have kings, kgosi le kgosigadi (A King & a Woman King) . There is more good than bad in indigenous systems, we can adapt them as much as we like, as long as botho is central. In culture & traditions, we have more in common than differences, that is why customery law applies to everyone, a good example of how traditional values can standardized. Paganism was standardized, that is why you have days of the week being named after Norse & Greek gods, rather worship Greeks than Africans right?

I agree with 1 thing, and that is the ANC clearly had the best negotiators following the elections. It makes no sense the other parties (all of them combined being in excess of 60%) allowed for a heavily wounded ANC to still get away with the top 3 positions like nothing ever happened. The opposition clearly lacked confidence. They are hiding behind differences in ideology but i don't agree. They just couldn't step up when they were called too. We all think we can lead until the opportunity presents itself and you self sabotage instead of taking power.
