Have you ever tried starting tear first? The recent mana regen and mana nerfs is a good pick i think, it allows you to stay in lane longer. (lane phase is much longer now, which you definitely know)
That makes you insanely weak in dueling, though, which is the most important part of top lane into almost every match-up, especially as Trundle, who is a dueling specialist.
