he was classically trained! he started playing classical piano when he was 4 and transitioned to more modern and pop piano and guitar when he was 16 but he has expressed in an interview that he does like to go back and revisit his classical roots by making use of classical elements in his compositions and songs :)
A talented singer he is. I love his emotions when he sings.

I do not doubt that there would be autotune in china's singing show.
But is that part really autotune though? I do not know how to tell the difference between autotune and no autotune, but that part is quite close to the live concert version here ruclips.net/video/DdRdh4t9OuI/видео.html
One thing for sure, JJ's voice does not need autotune.

This performance is even more impressive if you take into account the context of this show (Sound Of My Dream).
JJ as the judge who was challenged in this episode, had to randomly draw a song from a "shocking-songs list"- He drew this song. Then they had to draw a keyword - he got "classical".
He then had 3 hours to rearrange the original song and incorporate the keyword "classical" into it. I remember they showed him calling his Cello playing friend to ask if she could make it down to help him- which became the opening for the performance, and how he wove the classical theme into this pop song. He also rearranged another Jay Chou song into this performance actually, which was the switch up you noticed in the middle of the song. It fits perfectly though!
The rules of this show really made the versatility of the artists shine, as both performers and music producers. I was super impressed and became a big fan of JJ from watching him tackle the various songs he drew and rearranged to fit the keywords. He somehow always knocked it out of the park. Hope you will review more songs from this show!

今年看过演唱会的我表示林俊杰现场比cd还好听
林子祥是我覺得從以前年輕到現在還是很厲害的歌手，不知會不會有人想聽對於他唱歌的點評，還有A-lin ，希林娜依.高，青峰
有時為了在歌曲最高潮時，為了要更加誇大效果，做了調音、修音，反而破壞了聽感，老師大概覺得這樣的安排是比較可惜的吧。
畢竟 JJ是有這樣的實力可以達到該有的效果的。
搞不好現場就那句有瑕疵才修吧。

The part at the end that sounded like an auto tune is likely a growl that he attempted to do. But that is not to say there is absolutely no autotune involved in the entire performance. In fact, I’m pretty sure there is, because it’s too perfect to be true.
