- This is my first time watching, reacting, and reviewing 2X1 of Helluva Boss "The Circus." I hope you enjoy it!
SYNOPSIS
Follow Blitz, a classic demon Imp who sets out to run his own small assassin business with his weapons specialist Moxxie, his bruiser Millie, and his receptionist hellhound Loona. Together they attempt to survive each other while running a startup in Hell.

I love all the explanations we get in this episode. Stolas and Stella's marriage, how he and Blitzø met, why Stolas loves the circus, and why Blitzø keeps buying those horse figurines.
To clarify: Blitzo was bought for the day, not forever.
The fact that Stella was surprised stolas grabbed her arm instead of letting her hit him shows exactly the kind of person she is and I'm surprised no on else is talking about it. She's so comfortable with verbally abusing him in public and beating him in private and it shows in their body language. I hate that stolas has been keeping this from octavia, yet Stella has the audacity to spin the narrative to Octavia that Stolas was the one who ruined their relationship when he was only enduring it for Octavia. Its so manipulative. Stella is a great example of an abuser in so many ways. Its so realistic for a cartoon...and horrible because..people like Stella actual exsists..
Every time I rewatched Loo Loo Land, it gets me when poor Octavia says "when I was a kid and my parents didn't hate each other." Oh, honey. Your parents *always* hated each other. Your dad, at least, just tried to hide it for your sake.
Yet people still say Stella was retconned into being a bad person

When Stolas bows to Blitz in episode 7 when Blitz drops him off, I can't help but think about when Stolas does it here and his Dad hits him. It gives that bow a little more meaning and I think its really cute albeit sad.

A surprising detail about both Blitzo and Stolis’ dads:
They’re not only voiced by the same guy, but that guy is the same one who voiced Jafar in the Disney cartoon Aladdin movie.
I theorize that Paimon doesn't have one true form. The Bible depicts him as this blank, shadowy figure. I think he takes the form of an owl only when Stolas is in his sight - and that's why as Stolas entered the room he took many transformations before turning into the owl figure we see for the rest of his appearance

Just going to echo everyone else. That final sequence, where he wakes up miserable and starts singing, is the present. It's presumably the morning after what happened at Ozzy's.
He still has that "galaxy cape" outfit, so definitely the morning after ep7.
Something I feel like a lot of people miss in this episode and I'm not sure if you caught it, is that Stella is abusive towards Stolas, in just about every way possible.
We've seen that she's emotionally abusive in the way she talks to him, then during the party she talks about how he just lays there and stares off into space when they have sex (which to me sounds like borderline rape), then when he finally stands up to her, there's a shot where she's moving forward and he steps back with a very fearful look on his face, then she tries to slap him, but he stops her, and she looks shocked, implying she's hit him before and he didn't resist.
Aka Stella is a pos and Stolas deserves better.

Im not sure if you heard it when it was said in the ep but blitzo wasnt exactly taken from his family, he was just to spend the day with stolas
So, there is no real substance to this yet, but people have speculated that "Asmodean Crystals" are what Succubi like Verosika use to get 'upstairs', since they are under the Rule of Asmodius, ho me met last Episode, the Prince of the Lust Ring. The theory is that Stolas was planning to give Blitz(o) one of these Crystals, since it would allow him to be independent of Stolas' book, either just as a gift or maybe even as a sort of Propoasl ring
Some people are saying that this episode ruined Stolas's character and i don't get why. It made him so much better
I can sort of see how it seems like a dramatic shift from how he is in season 1, so maybe that’s why some people don’t like it. I think it added some nice depth to his character

Paimon is NOT a good dad! But to be fair, he's not the worst either.
He could've completely ignored Stolas' crying and send him away, beat him for it, or something else that was abusive. Instead he chose to take him to the circus which seems like a place royalty would prefer not to attend to.
He noticed that Stolas liked Blitz ( *an imp* - the lowest class of demon in all of Hell) and wished to "buy" him for Stolas.
Would Stella have bought an imp for Octavia? I think not!!

There are gradations of shit parenting. Even overall good parents can sometimes fall into some of it, though it's definitely not the case here.
People were and still are defending Stella's actions, some saying she was in the right because Stolas cheated on her, but their is no excuse good enough for spousal abuse, she proved she was a horrible, irredeemable person when she was instantly ready to back hand slap Stolas at the end, we already knew she emotionally and verbally abusive with him, but this proves she's been physically abusive to, it wasn't even a real marriage, they had no feelings for eachother at all, and instead of using him cheating as an excuse to get out of the relationship, she choose to stay and use it as ammunition to torture Stolas with instead
Blitz wasn't taken as he was only rented out for a day. I love this show for the little details because every thing always seems to have meaning, implication, or foreshadowing. It is implied Stolas gets hit by his wife when she tries to his him and is surprised that he caught it, indicating he knew it was coming saying he experienced it before, and her surprise meaning he never stopped it before.
9:45 fun fact, the reason why Stolas show this book is because in the Lemegeton, Stolas is said to be bearing knowledge of medicinal and poisonous plants on top of astronomy
Fun fact Stolas’ father Paimon is canonically the overall leader of the Ars Goetia so he’s basically the eighth most powerful demon in this franchise (not counting Charlie and Lilith)
And Stella’s brother, Andrealphus is a Marquis of the Ars Goetia (the ranks go Kings, Princes, Dukes, Marquises, Earls, Knights and Presidents) so he’s important but not as important as Stolas so idk why she tried to use him as a threat
Andrealphus might have connections with someone higher up the chain of command or he’s got guys like striker on his payroll
This one starts confusing the younger subset of fans. They take Stolas' song to be him giving up on the relationship. But they forget his response to Stella saying "After what you did." He reminds her he knows exactly what he did. And he says he'd feel sorry if she was hurt, but she wasn't. In that moment he's making up his mind to go with the relationship... that it isn't a mistake or a lie. And then he demands Stella get out of his house and his life. It's a beautiful episode that flows so well from the previous one and gives so much insight into Stolas' feelings and messed up marriage, as well as a little of why Blitzo is so messed up in relationships.
Also, Stella is one hell of a piece of work. Even by Hell standards.
Eh it could be read a lot of different ways; we don't have the actual ending to season 1 so we can't say for sure. I took it more as he was using Blitz as a crutch to have something 'thrilling and new', but can see it for the lie it was because he's not happier. The song and the bit in the book make me think he is going to try and walk away from Blitz and live for himself. He throws out his 'wife' and stands up for himself finally against her, but that doesn't mean he's diving headfirst into a relationship with Blitz, especially not since the last time we saw them when Stolas tried to invite him inside for something other than sex, and Blitz refused. Maybe if we knew the missing interaction between episode 7 and the start of season 2, but as it stands it reads, to me, that Stolas is finally picking to improve himself and his own life instead of just focusing on the lie that is his relationship with Blitz.
It can be read a lot of different ways, and we will never really know until we see the actual ending of season 1.
@@EmerickSin Viv said that episode 8 contains no plot information whatsoever. It is just a fun little episode to celebrate finishing season 1. That's why they felt okay with continuing to season 2. So... there's nothing in that episode that will alter anything we've seen.
Notes and thoughts in chronological order because again, I'm lazy to put in time stamps:
> The mansion looks like Stolas' own, but with Paimons insignia on it, this mansion might have been a hands down to Stolas once he has come of proper age
> That at the background looks like the same bathtub that we see at Ep.1, albiet just smaller
> Baby Stolas Portaits. The imp doll that he cuddled in bed and is cuddling in the portraits might have signified that he already had a fascination with imps at a young age
> Paimon is confirmed to have multiple children, might also mean that he has multiple wives
> The girl on the tight rope looks like a young Barbie Wire, might be Blitzo's twin sister, don’t know
> Interesting note is that, a lot of the circus imps have the same mark on their foreheads, would probably indicate that they are a group and not just a family crest that some people have theorized
> Here, we see Blitzo's dad have a heavy favoritism towards Fizzarolli rather than his own son, to the point that he's willing to sell Blitzo for 5 dollars and a condom
> Hooo boy, I have thoughts about the conversation between Blitzo and Fizzarolli, for me at least, this scene might be a really big RED FLAG. Why? This might be a hint on how Fizzarolli may have lost his limbs. Let's break down the interactions between the two balloon horses. The worm horse lost its legs in the "great pirate war", worm horse fought back against its assailants, the worm horse tried to run away, only to be caught up by said assailants, leading to them taking worm horse's limbs. Next banana pudding helps worm horse feel better, then apparently more blood. Now why do I think this might be a RED FLAG? Let's think for a bit, the story might be over-dramatized, but here are my thoughts, Blitzo and Fizzarolli in some way got into a fight, not with each other but with other people. My speculation is that the "great pirate war" might have been a rival circus. Maybe jealous of Fizzarolli's rising fame. Getting pushed back, Blitzo and Fizzarolli runs away, fleeing the fight. The assailants somehow caught up to them or just Fizz and proceeded to chop him up and take his limbs. That or maybe a burning tent of some sort, falling debris leading to pinned and broken limbs. OR, they were doing a performance act, and then accidents then falling debris leading to pinned and broken limbs. After everything, Blitzo wanting to help his friend picks him up and tries to leave, somewhere there, an accident might have occurred causing Blitzo to have a white scar on the right side of his face, hence more blood.
> When Blitzo’s dad was pulling him away from Fizzarolli, you could see in the background a family portrait of Blitzo and Barbie Wire, their dad Cash Buckzo, and their mom Tilla
> Side note, a lot of people mistake Blitzo and Fizzarolli as brothers, I’m just going to say that they’re not, in the background of season 1 episode 4 in the IMP building, a picture frame on the wall shows an advertisement for the “Amazing Imp TWINS”, and the twin is a twin sister, so no, FIzzarolli and Blitzo are not brothers, the mark on their foreheads is a circus mark as all the performers in the circus have them.

> Someone in twitter apparently already had already translated this, long story short, Asmodean Crystals are used by succubi and incubi in order to traverse into the Overworld or Earth, maybe Stolas would be planning to give Blitzo one for his company while he takes back his book in order to cut ties from Blitzo.

Something I picked up from the last ep.and this one. Stolis only bows to Blitz. I don't think he has ever bowed down to anyone before and ever since. Huge sign.
After this episode I really want to know what happened between Blitz and Fizz, I also want to know how Fizz get robotic arms and legs
I have a feeling that whatever happens with his mother triggers horrific abandonment issues, and so (as hallucination Verosika says in ep 6) he shuts away anyone who gets close to him until they resent him. So perhaps Fizz tried to be there for Blitzo after his mother left (presumably taking Barbie Wire with her) but just has it shoved back in his face.
I'm thinking Blitzo and Fizz try to run the circus themselves but Blitzo fucks it up by trying to be a "solo act" (as hallucination Fizz put it) and then leaves Fizz all alone, unable to run it by himself and the whole thing just collapses, causing the rift between them to form. Then as the solo act failed, Blitzo was left with no choice but to run to a robo copy of Fizz and work at Loo Loo Land, only to treat Robo Fizz the same way.
Brandon Rogers (Voice of Blitz) love horses too, thats why they made Blitz a Horsielover :>
It is interesting to see a bit of symbolic imagery during kid Blitz and Fizz showing horses as them? As Fizz (Green) is going to grow up with no limbs like the balloon blitz made and Blitz (Red) have all his limbs intact.
Stolas at the end of the series: And that, my grandchildren, is how I met your grandfather.

Thank goodness Blitzo didn't completely inherit his dad's horns. It seems like they'd be seriously awkward in normal life (not to mention sex).
I think Blitzo was only "bought" for the one day - even if the dad had meant for him to stay longer, he would've booted him out after realizing all the shinies in the palace were gone. (I do wonder if one or both of the kids got in trouble. And if the dad just ran off with the loot, since Blitzo in the present is not at all wealthy.)
Stella's brief look of surprise when Stolas stops her slap tells us volumes. :( And there's a moment at about 14:19 that always makes me wince, when Stella is talking about her party on the phone and Stolas smiles hopefully before visibly realizing that she's just insulting him again.
Kid Blitzo was so creative and quick-thinking! He may not have been any good as a clown, but it's sad that his dad clearly didn't recognize that he had other talents.
Episode 2 is available, so you do have one more! And maybe we'll get episode 3 sometime in December, I've got my fingers crossed.
Well, Stolas was never good at picking up on what Stella was talking about on the phone, as she was outright talking about his assassination right there at the dinner table.
For the second para, it HAS been 25 years so the whole stack may not have lasted. And the incident, after all

My theory is Piemon realizing he was robbed causes a lot of issues. Maybe even the scars and Fizzeroli being part robot.

I mean, you can’t really expect Paimon to be anything less than than an utter dick when he was voiced by Jafar 😂 also, my distain, for Stella is only ever growing at this point what a wicked creature
@MikeyVenture Imho or in my pov (either way, both views are still insane in my head😂): If you remember what Ozzie (aka Asmodeus) said to Stolitz in that S1E7 song, you have to ask yourself was the relationship between Blitzø and Stolitz love or a thrust? At the start, it was definitely a big time thrust where Blitzø gets to steal the book and Stolitz getting back at Stella for embarrassing him in front of her friends. And eventually it continued as a thrust up to a certain point where they might or might not be developing emotions towards each other until Ozzie and others did the roast song on them, making them unsure what they’re feeling anymore or self doubting each other or something. Guess we’ll never know until either some flashback that explains it in season 2 or if they do a part 2 in the season 1 finale.

Its no doubt this is a really good episode, but this is and the next one (no spoilers) is what confuses me a little bit about the missing season 1 episode. Because after all the flashbacks stuff with stolas we pick up with him after blitz leaves. so I really wonder what was in that missing episode. I mean it could have just not included stolas but still I'm very curious and I hope we get to see it some day.
Sad I missed the premiere, but S2 E2 is just as good just not as lore induced.

Well Blitz wasn't taken from his family, after spending the day with Stolas he went home. We see in his office Blitz and his Twin Sister(the one in rehab) Barbie Wire performed as acrobats "The Amazing Imp Twins" Hasn't shown how but something happened with Fizzarollie and Blitz(Possibly causing the white marks on Blitz's face and hands, Imps don't scar from injury they bleach) left the circus to go solo. His show crashed hard as Robofizz mockingly reminded him.
Stolas' association with plants is part of his Biblical Origin, the Ari's Goietia are coved in the lesser key of Solomon as demons summoned to impart knowledge on humanity ( yep wise king Solomon from the Bible was a necromancer and consorted with demons) Stolas' domains are Astronomy, Astrology and Herbology. And his dad is Piemon, patriarch of the Ari's Goietia and one of Lucifer's most trusted lieutenants. Stella's brother is called Drell, another high ranking Goietia, higher up than Stolas. She holds the threat of Drell's rank over Stolas as she has none of her own. It's why Stella is pissed, Stolas cheating is no issue, but with an Imp is political suicide. But combine Asmodeus catching Stolas with Blitz and Stolas being fed up that threat has no teeth. Drell's disapproval at this point has no threat behind it
Fun fact: Stolas's father is voiced by Jonathan Freeman, who also voiced Jafar in Aladdin.

I used to hate Stolas, because of the way he treats Blitz like a plaything. But I finally understand, he truly loves him. Plus, Stella is a absolute bitch, but he stayed anyway for his daughter. What a man. Now I appreciate him ❤️
