Brian wrote this but the way Freddie sings it you'd think they were his words!! Beautiful!!
Brian said quite recently that the song was about Freddie who was going through a difficult breakup. He did not say this at the time to protect Freddie's privacy.
Freddie's vocals are at their best in this song. It amazes me how he can sing like that and climb stairs and just walk/run around the stage. Most singers can't stand still and even come close to Freddie. Just an amazing singer. Freddie is the best. I love how you two love Queen and appreciate their talent. Great reactions. Thank you

They are a very tight group. They played together so long & knew & used each member’s strengths. They all played multiple instruments and wrote songs. I vote for White Queen at Hammersmith-Odeon 1975 for a performance where all of them are in top form and shine!

I loved Sheer Heart Attack LIVE but I wish I had listened to the studio first in this case because the lyrics were a blast! I was a bit blindsided watching it live, but the lyric video speaks to every generation at that ripe age of 17.

Freddie is IT. End of story, no other, no argument. Nobody else can put such emotion into the song into the lyrics who matter who wrote them. And the band so tight and trusting each other to be able to follow Freddie whenever he switched it up.

This is their best live performance from the 80s. Brian will be playing the piano with his guitar on his lap ready to start playing it for the 2nd chorus. Did you notice Freddies perfectly timed walk across the stage to get to the piano at the exact right moment
There are many other good performances from the 80's. Even the version of Save Me live at the Bowl is better. The Game tour, Hot Space Tour and Magic tour was all very good, better then their 70's tours.

Written by Dr Brian May, an amazing man. One of his many passions is animal and environmental issues and he has established a wildlife rescue foundation called Save Me. Freddie is mesmerizing but this is an example of how the whole team pulls together. The seamless switch Brian and Freddie make so he can take up the guitar is an example.
And he is playing the piano with his guitar on his lap. Not easy
They practiced. They practiced and planned out their performances and I remember that they were criticized heavily by the UK press for doing so. They were attacked as being not spontaneous.... So ridiculous! Better sound than any band. Practicing enabled them to be able to switch on and off different instruments seamlessly and they were more talented than anyone around. Still are!

Freddie’s voice is meteoric! There’s nothing he cannot sing! His album Barcelona, featuring Montserrat Caballé is testimony to that fact. I will go as far as to say he’s the greatest frontman of all in terms of rock music.

Montserrat Caballe’ was a renowned Spanish soprano opera singer in her time. Freddie adored her and her singing. They were able to collaborate on an album “Barcelona”. It was their dream to perform at the Olympics in that city in 1992,but alas,Freddie knew his health would not last that long. On a positive note,you can buy the album or see their performance on RUclips.

Freddy had a rare six octave range voice. He was one of a kind. I was blessed to grow up in his era to hear his music then and now still on utube. Keep on the Freddie rabbit hole. Freddy plays piano also

Brian starts on the piano with his guitar on his knee. Great switchover. I also read that the little exchange at the beginning was so that they could be sure they started the song at the same time. In one previous concert, Brian started to play before Freddie started singing and Freddie said "Well, it didn't start so f ***king well that time!" 😂😂😂

Queen is absolute Rock Opera at its finest. Freddie was both emotional and sassy which can make you laugh OR cry. They referred to themselves as the people's band, because they wrote songs that everyone could identify with in their own personal lives. Thanks so much for this reaction, guys - it especially shows the amazing connection between Brian and Freddie (with Brian starting on keys, background vocals.. and then suddenly he's shredding that guitar - just as Freddie tosses his mic aside and sits down to the piano) - and in fact, the whole band... this song was written by Brian, btw...
It's always amazing at how much passion Freddie puts into the songs of the other band members because he sings them as if he wrote them all!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥👑❤️
Freddie enjoyed being able to move around the stage and interact with the audience so from 1982 they had another musician join them. Fred Mandel would play the piano giving Freddie more freedom. Fred was with them until 1984 when Spike Edney joined them, and he in fact still tours with Queen and Adam Lambert. My husband & I were lucky enough to see them in February before Covid ruined everything for everyone. I love the litttle interaction between Freddie and Brian at the beginning. Did you notice Brian’s guitar slung over his shoulder ready for his solo later on? Brian also plays the keyboard in Who Wants to Live Forever, there’s a great live performance in Budapest. And Please check out White Queen live at Hammersmith 1975. You won’t believe it is live, it is SO Good!

Years later, Brian & Roger do a full commentary to this whole concert. They'll give you insights as to what they were doing, what was going on, and what Freddie was doing. When WE think Freddie is pausing for effect, they know he used the time to capture his breath or plan how he might be changing the song on the spot if he felt he wasn't going to hit the original notes. OR if his pause was because he was feeling the emotions of a song. It's very cool.

Another great Brian May song. So many of his songs were concert favourites. One of his best was on the second album called White Queen. The performance Live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975 is mesmerizing. Fun fact about Brian May is that his guitar The Red Special him and his dad built it out of an old mantel piece, his dad was a engineer. That’s why it can never be copied, he also uses a pick that is an old flattened six pence 😁😁
