That was a very good and informative video. Honestly I had no idea what the difference was between the two releases of Jelly Bean and now I know. Thanks!
Solid review.im running a custom 4.2.2 to on my Sprint GNex and so far I'm liking the updates.Hope the latest update comes to Sprint for those who don't user oms
Android 4.2 also has MMS Group Messaging, which is nice if you text a group of people (especially those with iPhones). Your conversation will be threaded in one message. The Google Music app in 4.2 also got gapless playback, a HUGE plus and makes listening a joy.
This was a great video, thank you. I have a nexus 7 with 4.2 and an Asus Transformer with 4.1 that is currently in the process of updating to 4.2. While I'd noticed differences, they seemed very minor. Many of the subtleties you've pointed out I hadn't noticed at all.
Watching these makes me want to stick with my ice cream sandwich... these look too much like kitkat which ive played around with and theyve made it too simple. I hope it doesnt become outdated anytime soon because in the newer versions the appearance just isnt as great.
I am sure that is because he had edited sections where he explained all the features. So if something came up in one section, it would also show up in another.
Love the changes, new camera app is excellent, I prefer the old style lockscreen clock but aside from that, excellent! I don't understand people's complaints about the lockscreen widgets, they're only available in the slide lockscreen (which isn't a secure lockscreen anyway) so it's not diminishing security at all, it just makes getting to those commonly used things easier if it's all you wanna do in a hurry.
1. Android goes in alphabetical order. They're on Jelly bean now, so it's going to be a while before they reach the letter "S". Many belive next Major OS update will be named Key Lime Pie. 2.Background data as in your 3g/4g? You can turn off data when not using it. But not specifically background data because then apps wouldn't be able to update notifications. But you can toggle data on and off quite easily with the app power toggles.
SUN as in Sun Cellular? I love the SWIPE KEYBOARD!! Nexus 4! Now I understand that if I go back to 4.1 or 4.1.2 I can enable the LTE Radio.. Would you know about that? SMART Communications just started offering their new LTE KITS. Thank you.
Well it's still a great idea to put the MOST IMPORTANT stuff on the lockscreen to make things much quicker to execute, but ehh I still like the idea of integrating Google Now, Unlock, and Camera into one pane.
For samsung u can't U will have to wait for samsung to release their Own Update for the Note II because The drivers and kennel for the Note II are different from those devices shown in the video. Hope this answers your question :)
Depends what phone you have, it looks like the reviewer has the Galaxy Nexus which has the stock version of Android. You may have a phone which has a skin (eg Samsung's Touchwiz) which displays slightly different features.
Well accept the update when it becomes official on the S3 but I'm not enthused. Perhaps the most interesting thing is the Multi User capability for tablets.
4.2 isn't a game changer, although, I appreciate having its functionality on my phone. It's just an incremental upgrade, but I do think it's an improvement.
Look, Google Nexus One began with 2.1 and has been upgraded to 2.2 and 2.3 - 2 major upgrades. Google Nexus S began with 2.3 and has been upgraded to 4.0 and 4.1 - 2 major upgrades. Following this though, Google Galaxy Nexus began with 4.0 and has been upgraded to 4.1 and 4.2 - 2 major upgrades already.
Great review, just a tip however you repeated differences, e.g the permissions differences and the google now lock screen difference. Just a heads up :)
True, but Google itself is very developer friendly. The 4 was made in 2010, the 4S was made in 2011, the 5 was made in 2012. Like I said though, the guy was stupid to put a resource heavy and top of the line mobile OS on 3 year old hardware and expect it to run smoothly.
HTC, much like Samsung and some other phone manufacturers, remove some stock features and add some of their own. To get the features seen here, you'd have to flash an AOSP-based ROM.
just got the nexus 4 . the only down side is the 16 gb of storage, but it's 200 cheaper than the gs 4 and the htc one, plus it's easier to root if that is what your into. I prefer touchwiz to stock android or sense, but I'm using a custom launcher, so it doesn't matter anyway. I do prefer timely os updates though, and you only get that with stock android. That being said, HTC on Samsung are releasing stock versions of their flagship devices.
hey my android share 4.0.4 graphics not better. the game had an blanken spot when i play temple run the run again is blank and others word how to fix it.....please help me !!!
Hi frnd.....I cant play videos in my mobile(galaxy note ll) browser even youtube video also it ask to install flash player.....but I cant get it in play store....help me frnds and suggest some idea. ..
As of now, you can't unless you have an unlocked Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7. The Verizon or Sprint Galaxy Nexus haven't gotten the update yet because of carrier delays, and any other device with 4.1 (non-Nexus) won't get it for another few months because manufacturers have to put their skins on top of it, then roll it out.
You don't understand -.- . Let's say you are playing a game, if you received a notifications you have to exit your game first to view that but if you just press your lock key then press it again you can view E-mails Messages or even open the notification panel then if you're done, just unlock your screen again and back into the game. Sincerely, An Android user Don't vote this negative or spam, JUST SAYING MY OPINION!!
Have you played some games before like jetpack joyride or temple run?? You can't see status bar at SOME APPS. geddit? (not being mad or somethin' anyways)
This was by far the best 4.1 4.2 tutorial/differences video I've seen! Great job! Very clear, simple and accurate!!!
It's a weird feeling watching this in 2018 and hearing "a modern and sophisticated look"
2024 babyyyyy
wow this brings me back memories
That was a very good and informative video. Honestly I had no idea what the difference was between the two releases of Jelly Bean and now I know. Thanks!
I really liked the before and after comparison! really great!
Great video! Exactly what I was searching for!
Solid review.im running a custom 4.2.2 to on my Sprint GNex and so far I'm liking the updates.Hope the latest update comes to Sprint for those who don't user oms
Thank you for putting it all together !
i really appreciate your efforts
A very well made video :)
I appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the info!

In 4.2 is there an options to add a New Album in the Gallery and can you add your own ringtones ?

Stephen

Yeah, I just like more the way it was in 4.1, more intuitive and all in one touch target. Thank You!
Very nicely done, thank for sharing in a concise way.
Was the camera on a loop? Repeat the same thing over and over again
Watching these makes me want to stick with my ice cream sandwich... these look too much like kitkat which ive played around with and theyve made it too simple. I hope it doesnt become outdated anytime soon because in the newer versions the appearance just isnt as great.
Thanks for showing how to see the developer options menu again! I thought it was gone for good.
Thank you... Very thorough, excellent work.
Actually they are probably my favourite feature from 4.2. Such a great feature
You right he can get Cianogenmod 10, but is not suport by google. Is a rom. the Iphone 5 was made in 2012 righ an the 4 in 2011? or the 4s?
The best review, i ever seen. Thank you.
Why don't you go to XDA and look through the forums to see if anyone else is having this problem?
Covering all bases I guess. Do you play with your phone while watching the video? I do. I'm glad he went over it twice.
PS: Nice video guys!
Very informative...thorough. Are updates available only through cell phone service providers? Just wondering!
I agree, there is no point of a lock screen if that in the case unless you do it for security
This is a great video! 4.2 has a lot of new features!
Solid review.Im running a 4.2.2 rom on my Sprint GNex until it comes
You forgot that its smoother when coming from an app to the multitasking button
Great video, thanks. I thing the major update is for the tablets, the new multi-user function which means a lot for the users.
You didn't mention the new group messaging option. That's the second most used feature on my phone behind gesture typing.
Thanks so much for comparing Jellybean 4.1 with 4.2. Is a Nexus 7 with Android Jelly Bean 4.1 upgradable to 4.2 in the future?
i noticed you are using SUN network..are you from the philippines?
I am sure that is because he had edited sections where he explained all the features. So if something came up in one section, it would also show up in another.
Nexus 7 is already running 4.2, since the day it was presented. My Galaxy Nexus from 2012's January is running it.

Photosphere is a specifity of Nexus Devices not Android 4.2. Its not available on other Android 4.2 because Googke didnt release the code .
08:22 but the scrolling in the apps list is still a big hassle when you have so many installed.
Sun? Are you from the Philippines? Wow! 5 minutes in and you've showcased the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and the Nexus 7.
thanks its very useful review, cool video. almost all differences is covered
What's the brand and model of the Android 4.2 phone?
Good work man.

Thank you.
Why does the nexus on the right only have 3.4 total gigabytes of internal storage
Nice job, very well done. Thanks
Idk if Android sent me a boot leg version of jelly bean but my 4.1 don't look or do anything like his is talking about
It's a new android thing. Jelly bean just makes your device faster and more up to date.
Well it's still a great idea to put the MOST IMPORTANT stuff on the lockscreen to make things much quicker to execute, but ehh I still like the idea of integrating Google Now, Unlock, and Camera into one pane.

does SOMEBODY knows, will LG L7 II (710) will get update from 4.1 to 4.2,and when??? Thank you very much for info
@FrKuraiba I meant I have the Note2 camera, my bad.

When is 4.2 out on xperia j?
Are you a Filipino? I love your accent! Ang galing! :)
How do you update your android 4.1 to 4.2? Samsung galaxy note 2 user here.
Outstanding video, I love Android.. Have 4.1.1 on my phone and 4.2.1 on my tablet
hey, do the pictures come from the philippines?
"May the light side of the Android force be with you."
And also with you! :))))
HAHAHAHA
Great review, just a tip however you repeated differences, e.g the permissions differences and the google now lock screen difference. Just a heads up :)
Great comparison!!!
I don't understand, a lock screen is a lock screen not a place to see apps without unlocking the phone...it does not make sense
Camera changes are awesome for me
True, but Google itself is very developer friendly. The 4 was made in 2010, the 4S was made in 2011, the 5 was made in 2012.

Not out yet, unless if you want to flash CM10.1 based such as MonXdified CM10.1... Jellybam 4.2.1, or JellyBeer 4.2.1 or ParanoidAndroid
HTC, much like Samsung and some other phone manufacturers, remove some stock features and add some of their own. To get the features seen here, you'd have to flash an AOSP-based ROM.
Great video!
did u do any review on 5.0?
Good review. I still use 4.1 camera on my S3, except if I want to play with sphere. I'm on 4.1.2, and Smart network :-D

There aren't enough changes in 4.2 to make me crave it that much.
you must not check the disable hardware overlay.. if you do that, you'll have a hard time playing hd videos..
hey my android share 4.0.4 graphics not better. the game had an blanken spot when i play temple run the run again is blank and others word how to fix it.....please help me !!!
thanks for awsome review
Hi frnd.....I cant play videos in my mobile(galaxy note ll) browser even youtube video also it ask to install flash player.....but I cant get it in play store....help me frnds and suggest some idea. ..
lol, right? If you can swipe to see your text, then you can swipe to unlock and check.
Is this update availble on the galaxy S3?

How do I by pass screen lock on jellybean laptop? 4.1
I have a GNexus too, but I don't believe it is going to receive Key Lime Pie.

I like 4.2 a lot but the only thing I prefer of 4.1 is the lock screen access to camera/gnow/unlock, I think it was better that way.
Do you live in malaysia or anywear near it
compared to others... they do pretty good. And atleast they upgrade them. Even the old models.
You can peak at your notifications while playing games with the smart status bar app
There's nothing wrong with 4.0.4 but the newer updates improve the general smoothness of the user interface
Nice review
BTW both are awesome !!!!
thanx for sharing such review
Have you played some games before like jetpack joyride or temple run?? You can't see status bar at SOME APPS. geddit?
(not being mad or somethin' anyways)
Excellent Reivew
Wich is best? Mine is 4.0.4
How do I update from 4.1 to 4.2?
running 4.2.2 on my gnexus wo hooo, cant wait for key lime pie!
4.2 seems like it was released for more of a tablet ui probably due to the nexus 10's release. but i still want it on my maxx hd :P
My phone, Galaxy s3, does not upgrade to 4.2 ... how come?
What a bout the performance?
