Is that what I know as the ‘old Norwegian cast on’? Which type of cast off do you use? I know it’s important your cast on and bind off match well in a scarf like this so one side isn’t tighter from experience. Lovely scarf 🧣
I’ve been meaning to thank you for introducing me to Kate from the Last Homely House. She is lovely and so fun to watch! I’m learning loads from her! Thanks again!
Hello Katherine! Isn’t Kate an absolute sweetheart! She has kept me sane over the last year or so. She has such a very special way of speaking to ‘you’, as if there’s just the two of you chatting over a cuppa. I too am so grateful to have found her! X
Yes, I was thinking this is a great leftover project. I have lots of single balls of Robin dk, but Robin went bust last year so I'm determind to clear out my stash of all Robin. This will be great towards that goal.
I'll never forget my first scarf. I was 8. A friend taught me the knit stitch and I picked a vibrant red yarn and made a scarf that I wore every winter. I loved making it and to this day when I see that color I get the same buzz it gave me to make it and wear it. Love.
Carlos you're a mind reader, I'm wanting to learn to knit (as self taught learning crochet), the scarf is a perfect item to start with. I love the way Arne is so fast with his knitting. Both brilliant people. Hope you both doing ok now.
Arne is amazing....he's been knitting for more than 50 years.....Terri Clarke, keep knitting and as the years go by you too will get as good and fast as Arne....i'm a self taught crocheter and knitter (21 years crocheting, 5 years knitting) and i was just amazed this past week when i thought back to the very first knitting project i did and then i looked at the project i had in my hands this past Friday...it's amazing how different things are now....keep knitting and crocheting....pass your work down to you children, grand children, nieces and nephews....every project you work on is art....and it contains a piece of your heart
@@ilahmurphy2742 If you taught yourself to crochet, you can certainly teach yourself to knit! There are so many resources out there! And once you get the main idea, study Arne and Carlos's Norwegian technique; it is very good!
Loved making the scarf. Made it with 4 different colors. Each stripe was 1.5" widw. I cast on 250 sts on a #11 needle. It was 7" wide by 68" long. Love it!
I have just finished knitting my "Easiest Scarf In The World". I used a variety of colors of worsted weight yarn from my stash, including both bright and muted colors to avoid a crayon box look. The scarf is 8.5" wide and 84" long. That length is OK because I am 5'9" tall and can wrap it this way and that to a comfortable length. Next time I make this scarf in worsted weight yarn I will cast on 250 stitches instead of 300. That will result in a 72" scarf. For a 60" scarf, you'd cast on 200 stitches if using worsted weight yarn. I knitted this scarf flat, using two Size 9, 40" circular needles like a pair of straight needles. This scarf was way too bulky to knit flat using only one circular needle. A most enjoyable knitting project. Thank you for the inspiration, Arne and Carlos
My children love my scarves and I love making them. I've always made them vertically, never thought if horizontal. Urgh so simple!! I can't wait to make these. Thank you both.
Thank you for this quick and easy tutorial Arne and Carlos. Very clever idea to do the fringe at the same time too. Love the colors of the completed scarf. Take care and be safe.
What a lovely idea. Thank you and I am going to make these scarves for next Christmas gifts. I have watched you from the start, and although I do not often comment , I consider you to be the friends I follow.

Queridos! You have inspired me so much to live a "bigger life." You are so filled with projects, ideas, activities, garden, home, dogs, nature, walking, knitting, crocheting, cooking, reading, enjoying a creative life. I was on your last Hurtigruten cruise, but not as a member of your group. I only found out about your group after I boarded. I got off in Kirkenes and didn't go back down the coast. What memories of last year at this time. Big love from Chicago!
Your brainstorming about I-cord use has gotten me thinking as well. Like the idea to add to other knitted items ie. pillows or hats or even sweaters perhaps. I've been knitting your Reine hat for a Christmas gift while watching this video. Thank you so much for a delightful morning.
Today must be use up your scraps day, I just finished watching Kate at The Last Homely House, she had a beautiful scrappy quilt project going. Looks like I will be starting two projects today. Thank you, have a great week.
After seeing your video I knitted a scaled down version for a child. I sat for two whole days knitting it,practising the Norwegian style. I know have to rest from knitting as have a sore shoulder! I found your videos in the first lockdown . You both have kept me company through 2020 and now 2021. I have tried lots of new techniques thanks to you. I knitted my first scarf when I was 8yrs old in 1959. It was so badly knitted I was not allowed to take it home. It didn't stop me though. Xx
this technique is amazing...i once crocheted an "Apache Trail of Tears" blanket with the technique of starting every row on the right of the rs and leaving enough yarn on both ends to tie together at the end of the project....also don't forget you want to leave each end at least 12 inches/30 cm so that you can have enough yarn to trim....do this for any knitted or crochet project that has fringe on the sides
You really got my attention when you said "easiest", I love this scarf and your contrasting color choices. Arne, your sample looks like it would make a cute coaster. I could see these turn into a table runner, or dresser scarf? a doll blanket for my grand daughter to play with, oh so many possibilities! Thank you for your inspiration :)
I'm thinking of making a table runner in this manner with perhaps a cotton yarn or blend. Something washable on delicate cycle since I hope to have the 4 little grandchildren around the table again soon! I started the scarf using my scraps. It's like a walk down memory lane. It took the entire 300 plus stitches for me to figure out what I'd made with a certain beautiful purple yarn. I finally remembered that it was used for a spiral scarf, my first experience with short rows. I overestimated my long tail so I kept casting on beyond the 300. One of these rows, I'll actually count them! This is a fun project, especially one I can put down and pick up when I'm waiting for yarn to arrive for a project. Thanks Arne & Carlos!
I am so happy you shared this video, because I am one of those that never knitted in my life, but would do anything to learn.. I saved this video so I can go back to it.. thank you Arnie and Carlos

Also I want to thank you so much for introducing Prym on your podcast. In my 60 plus years of knitting I have acquired almost every kind of knitting needles available and now I can honestly say their needles are the easiest to knit with of all. I am currently knitting a sweater on the circular needles and what a difference they make. So again I am so glad I ordered them.
