I know what it's like to have a husband abandon me and our children for another woman states away. He left us the day after Christmas. Then as soon as our divorce was finalized they moved out of state and years later married. So my children basically grew up without a dad. They were preschool age when he left. We never reconciled but had we stayed married we would be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year. They've been married almost a decade now. I also watched my single friends marry or my divorced friends remarry or have their marriage reconciled and my married friends celebrate many anniversaries. I'm still single however I feel like this is where God wants me and your story gives me hope. It's been almost 16 years but I have learned so much. I do miss sharing my life with someone but I wouldn't change anything since getting closer to God and watching how He is working in our lives. There's so much more to be thankful for than missed. He is truly a Father to the Fatherless and has been my husband all along never forsaking or leaving us.

I came across your material after I typed "God has shut down my life" into Google. It's excellent stuff, although of course very little of it applies to me. I am a 54-year-old Catholic man living in the UK, which has literally none of the plethora of online and real-world resources - supportive of faith and life in general - that there seem to be in the US. Here, you go to church for an hour on Sunday (it doesn't matter what Christian denomination you are), then forget about Christianity altogether until the same time the following week. And if you even mention the concept of additional ministry activities, people just stare at you uncomprehendingly. I believe that I have a lot of gifts to use in the service of God's people, but it really feels like God has always said to me, and is still saying: "You just sit there and do nothing, and I'll call you if I need you." And then he never does.

I'm genuinely glad for you that you're finding joy in the journey, and God bless your new marriage! I will admit I have difficulty not letting a little jealousy creep in, as I've prayed for a husband since I was very young, but at my age and situation now it's pretty clear that's not in God's plan for me. But I have to remember that God is faithful, His thoughts are not my thoughts, and He's faithful to His children. His plans are better than my plans.
Your story is similar to mine in many ways especially the praying for reconciliation of my first marriage too and others being restored and healed and mine was not even when their were glimpses of reconciliation on the horizon. I am remarried and while I am very thankful for my husband who is a Godly man, both having kids from previous marriages and dealing with exes has been exhausting. I am still hanging in there some days by a thread knowing God is with me/us. I do not know what I would do without God. I cling to Him with all that I have. I am so very happy for you and all that God is doing in your life❤ Thank you for this study.
