After all these years of the game being hyped and then being called over-rated, I had started to believe them. I forgot the good parts and remembered all the gripes and faults. Yesterday, I decided to load an old save I still had on my memcard. It was right before the cave, so I went through it for nostalgia's sake. Then I saw this cutscene, and I could feel it. There are emotions that this game tackles that I haven't seen later games attempt. Moments like when Tifa asks Cloud if it really is him, and tells him it feels like he's going away for a very long time. When Cloud walks into the house he grew up in, the house he saw burn along with his whole village, and it's not burned and nobody has ever seen him before.
Agreed. I could never quite put my finger on why this is my favorite FF game. I thought maybe nostalgia goggles. I mean, other games have far better core mechanics. But then scenes like this remind me why, it is because all of the characters are incredibly fleshed out and I actually grew to care for each of them a great deal. Every character had a chance to shine without being too cliche or heavy-handed.
Love this part in the game, always makes me tearful. Can't wait to see this in the remake. Hopefully it will be as impactful as it was in the original.
I dont even have to watch it to start shedding a few tears, but when I do watch it I get like a stress headache and the involuntary inaudible crying where the tears just stream down without my face twisting up. Pretty powerful. A lot of people probably project their own fathers into this scene, and mothers. This, jenova life battle transition(after you know what happens), and Dyne always just wreck my existence. I'm probably forgetting a few scenes for sure. Shera, Vincent stuff, and the bizarre Cloud breakdown (that one really spooks me and adds more confusion even after I finish the collecting part)
Thinking of this alone concerning the remake is going to be both amazing and crushing. Always Adored Nanaki and this was so impactful in the original. With everything shown thus far in detail and being overall faithful. Just thinking of seeing this scene like that..
this scene and the scene where rose tyler got sucked inot that portal to be forever away from the doctor are the best 2 scenes every created in the history of entertainment for me.

This part always made me cry. Even now, its a sad yet easing scene. Nanaki knows his father wasnt a coward, yet he didnt acknowlege that till he seen him in the flesh...or 'stone'. Sorry, trying to cheer myself up ^_^
love the red 13/seto scene, still brings tears to my eyes. a proper fit for red 13's species/taxon is Centran Canis Familiaris, or common canine of the centra. at least that's how i always thought of him.
It's a great scene like this that makes me mad how unappreciated Nanaki really is. Especially now with Square avoiding his very existence due to his fur and how hard it is to animate it. Damn their laziness!

The original Midi and psone graphics of the original one have so much more impact over the remake... the new one is longer and loses a lot of the flare with a new recomposed version that doesnt have the needed weight for this scene.
Just a suggestion, I felt the same, but I tried Nier, and that had a pretty good storyline to it. Worth a shot, I think it's on 360 and ps3 for like $20.
@sadisticmind87 Well, both his father and mother willed for the cave to be sealed forever. If Red knew the truth behind his father, wouldn't he be extremely tempted to venture into the cave and gaze upon his fallen parent?
let me ask you this question... why do we need graphics when we can have marvelous story telling...back in the day they needed to make story telling wondrous cause the lack of graphic power... imagine now if we could mimic this story telling with decent graphics... not outstanding... just decent...
What i never understood is why did they keep it a secret from red XII? you would think a mother would tell her child "ur father died to pretect us". i would like to see where was he when it happened. i love this story!
