  • Finally, my friends and I had the opportunity to try and taste Five Guys cheeseburger and hot dogs. This fast-food brand slowly but surely implants her restaurants here in France and we were curious to try this brand new way of eating fast food. Watch till the end if you wanna know what we have to say about Five Guys on our little adventure there. It opened its doors almost 1 year ago in our city and seems to be working well.

My son and I go to Five Guys usually twice a week. The manager knows us well enough that when he sees my car pull up, he starts our order and has it entered by the time we get to the register. We both order the same thing every time.

I'm a retired American living in the south of France (dept 13). I'm not a fan of US fastfood or American fastfood in France. That being said, the first time I tasted a 5 guys burger was in London. I've been hooked ever since. I'm so happy they opened one in the town I live in.

I've learned to buy a single burger and cut it in half, make it a double half. Also, if you go with a friend you will need only one order of fries. Get the spicy ones for a change.

    • @SteveJarek

I disagree. The portions are absolutely huge and a little burger with a little fry is more than enough to fill my bottomless pit of a stomach, and it’s only about $7-8 dollars, so the price of a meal at McDonald’s. I usually take it home and have it with a bottle of water from my fridge. Also all toppings being free is nice, I load it up with almost everything.

    • @jefflee2698

@@SteveJarek ...They're really not nearly big enough to justify that kind of price. It's partially why they throw a ton of filling fries in there, to compensate for the high price and to make sure you feel full (because otherwise it's lacking a bit). Maybe you're very petite or something, but I've never known anyone to look at a Five Guy's burger and think it's huge.

Five Guys started close to where I'm from (about 35 - 40 miles, 60 - 70 km). The burgers are fantastic, but tend to be messy. Don't try to eat them neatly, just enjoy and be prepared to use lots of napkins! :)

The food and the restaurant look just like they do here in the USA. It is expensive for a burger here too. I can get similar quality for less at other places. There are different levels of fast food. McDonalds, Buger King, and Jack in the Box are examples of the cheaper level. Five Guys is better quality, fresher. Other restaurants on that level include Fudruckers, and In and Out. But even among the better quality burgers, 5 Guys is expensive.
The stark atmosphere and the old fashioned decor in 5 Guys is intentional. It's meant to be nostalgic and campy, like a 1950s soda fountain.
If you don't like your drinks that sweet try half iced tea with no sugar, half lemonade. In the US that drink is called an Arnold Palmer, named after a famous golfer who liked it.

Hot tip: The heel of a hamburger bun is designed to provide a flat surface for the sandwich to set at rest, not to support the contents inside. So, if you hold it upside down when you take bites the crown of the bun is substantial enough that the entire thing doesn't fall apart.

5 Guys is pretty good, for chain restaurant. Whenever you visit the US, your best burgers usually come for local restaurants, usually the small, what we would call and “dive” or “hole in the wall” type of place. No matter where you are in the US, these local eateries will have the best of whatever type of food you are looking for. This goes the same for “real” Mexican food and barbecue. If you haven’t tried American barbecue and smoked meats yet, you are in for a treat. I live in the US and work for a Japanese company. I’m pretty cultured. I’m half Filipino, I’ve lived on 3 continents and spent time in a dozen countries. Whenever my company sends liaisons from Japan here to the Midwest US, I try to hit 2 different restaurants with them, a good burger place and a good bbq place. The Japanese seem to love both. Needless to say, when the liaisons come over here for an extended amount of time, they go back to Japan a little more “well fed” than when they left.

5 guys is a good burger. I know of many local restaurants (I live in Napa, CA) where you can go and get a burger just as good and sit down in a place that is much more fun and interesting and even get a glass of quality wine while you eat.

my wife and I tried it once, years ago, and we had the same reaction. As a farmer and Hunter we don't eat out much at all, and the game I hunt, other than bear, is typically incredibly lean meat like whitetail deer, so to order up a burger with all the fixings and enough fat to fuel a long days hard work on the farm was truly an interesting thing! I still prefer to live off the land heh.

Awww they didn't have the best part about Five Guys. Over here in the States every Five Guys has like mountains of peanuts that you can just grab and eat for free while you wait for your food.
The whole fresh burger thing is not just with Five Guys. There are a few chains like that. Over in California there's a chain called In'N'Out Burger that people swear by. As a native Californian I can confirm it's really good and it's really cheap all things considered. In'N'Outs are so popular that it's almost impossible to find one without like 20 cars in the drive thru line. It depends on the location but quite a few of them will regularly have lines of cars in the drive thru that spill out onto the regular streets. There's an equal amount of madness inside each of these restaurants too.

I'd rather eat at a restaurant where I can get better quality food and a better atmosphere for the same price. I never understood the attraction for fast food. When I was poor, I would eat in china town (when I went to a restaurant), it was cheaper than eating at McDonald's haha.

Never really been into five-guys, very greasy food but a lot of people like that though.
Personally fast-food wise I'll always prefer the Texas chain "Whataburger".
Granted any small mom and pop shop would have better burgers and food for cheaper. (Pretty sure it works like that in every country though.)
Granted both Five-Guys, in and out and Whataburger are a step-up from McDonalds and Burgerking.
    Five-Guys = Cajun fries
    Whataburger = Malted milkshake
In-n-out: None in Louisiana but heard they have good animal style fries
But we do have another Cali chain called "FatBurger" (Kind of like if Five-Guys and In-n-out had a love child), which is just amazing, can't really think of any "unique" food from them, other than being able to completely customize it including adding a fried egg >>

I'm so ashamed for my country that you actually ate this. Five Guys is horrible. Their burger meat is full of gristle and their fries are so soggy and greasy it's disgusting

Never liked 5 Guys a whole lot. Same reasons you stated. Especially the high price. And mcdonald's is higher in some cases. And their food stinks. Smell and taste.

Oh...no no no!! Awful, greasy, low quality...Burger King is better (here in UK anyway)...But I much prefer now the better places like Gourmet Burger Kitchen, where you get better steak patties and you can have a bottle of beer instead of cheap sugar drinks...it would be better at least to have a proper bottle of Coke, Pepsi, Sprite...rather than those syrup/water machine you self-serve from. That is proper 'merd' (excuse my French!!). Can you tell...I'm older gen...gotta protect myself from heart disease :-)) Do you have better quality burger places in France?

How dare you Five Guys is a burger Icon. Burger King wishes it was a third as good. Burger king tastes like pickled shit on cardboard.

@@jacobkeyser8628 I very dare!! 😁 But let's face it...BK, 5G, Macky-D...they're all made from eyeholes, earholes and arseholes (pardon my French) so I prefer real steak burger...or KFC

@@FrenchTastic You don't eat out Marie...is that because of pandemic? There should be at least '5 guys' wanting to take you to a classy 'bistrot'...? (refuse a date who offers fast food!!!)

Phil Proffitt 5G makes heir burgers from a blend of ground chuck and serloin. They also smash their burgers and let’s be honest if I’m in the mood for steak I’ll just get a stake. Burgers are made differently and use an entirely different skill set. But yes both BK and MCDs are shit and use rubber.
