Y'all realize that the same thing happened in Sonic Adventure 2 where him and Amy watched Sonic get launched into space and blown up and immediately afterwards Tails had to pull himself together to fight Eggman, who was still in the room and willing to kill him and Amy, right? It's bassicly a time-loop that got literally messed up, it's just like in Little Nightmares 2 but instead of fighting you are helping the older version of yourself. Sonic (from Sonic Mania) got transported to the nothingness in the Sonic generations and that's where the first time loop is cuz he literally meets the older version of himself, this means that HE will find himself in the same situation but this time he will be the older version that meets the younger. And here in Sonic Forces simply the same thing happens
In sophisticated terms, the people who created this game have downsized Tails’ character to the point that he is just another face in the character roster and a shadow of his former self. In a layman’s terms, well... he got the Gohan treatment.
I think the reason why Tails and the others were shafted was because people criticized SEGA for emphasizing the side characters more than Sonic; from Adventure 1 to 06, the games were structured in a way that players were forced to play as other characters, along with Sonic, to complete the game, rather than allowing players to chose who to play as all the way through like the Genesis/Master System days. I don't remember why they did this, but I think it was an attempt to keep the franchise interesting. Players were not that happy about this approach and, combined with the failure of 06, SEGA took the criticism seriously and, starting with Unleashed, made future Sonic games focus solely on Sonic, albeit at the expense of other characters. What I think is going on is that SEGA takes criticism a bit too strongly and reacts in an extreme fashion; it's this take in criticism that leads to the death of so many Sonic concepts and projects, even ones that are enjoyed by fans.
PieOfCthulhu personally if the point of null space is to be a void with nothing, not even a single spec of matter included, it would be rather hard to make a whole level out of it. But I wouldn’t be against that.
Honestly, I think this game turned out pretty okay. A lot of people have mixed feelings about it, and I can say I do too. I actually enjoyed the cutscenes in the beginning, since Sonic was gone, we can see all the characters interact with one another without him needing to be there. I think it gives them more personality, and we can definitely see how the characters formed different relationships with one another. All in all, I think the game could've been better, it had potential, but it's pretty okay in my book.
Unfortunately, the game being « okay » is what makes it forgettable to a lot of people. There’s nothing that’s super good about it nor anything that’s super bad. Sonic 06 was a mess yet people still remember it because of how bad it was. That being said, I agree that the game did have potential.
Yeah, I agree. I think the one thing it could have done better is have more levels or make the levels longer, as some people did complain about how short the game is (as the only way to put more time in it is if you go for the hidden items in each and every level), and the fact that Avatar customization is limited.

Honestly could be vastly improved with just a few changes. -don't just tell us about eggmans conquering - SHOW it to us. They give us a taste, but we need more if it needs to feel real. -at least in first battles - have sonics attacks do next to nothing at all to infinite. Gives him a more godlike, impenetrable feeling. Don't just make him invincible in cutscenes - in the game too. -give the other villains depth - don't just cheese them to be illusions. Possibly most importantly though - GIVE US A REASON TO CARE. They keep trying to remind us of old games when what they really need to do is develop sonic. Have him grow from his mistakes - give him flaws, give him weaknesses. Sonics fans have grown up - have him grow up too.
Technically, they did show Eggman's conquering, even if only a little - that was basically the point of the Avatar's flashback. We literally saw Infinite leading Eggman's robots and annihilating several Resistance members, leaving only the Avatar left to tell the tale and join Knuckles, Espio and the others.

In this scenario, Tails saying “True dat” gives off a feeling of disgust due to how dated the statement is, and how it makes Sega feel like they’re trying to hard to appeal to kids.
How is this a step up when his previous inventions required Super Sonic to defeat and one of them even went against Hyper Sonic when this one only required Double Boost or Triple Boost?

The game was actually pretty decent. Yeah, some of the gameplay mechanics were wonky, and some of the dialogue is cheesy, but it's still pretty decent. Honestly, the biggest issue I had with the game was the way the story was presented (as well as the quality of the cutscenes.)

But yeah the story seemed...I dunno..I feel like they tried too much to have the OC to be so plot important. I can see it easily working as a online multiplayer thing. Just not as the story, the focus should,d have been on modern and classic sonic , especially since Mania and forces are connected. That and the final boss..wasted potential . Eggman says he's surpassed infinite and uses the lasers and rocks only. I would have had Eggman at first use a combo of the Death Egg Robot and Dragoon and the final phase would have been Eggman using the Ruby to roboticise himself . I feel as if the focus should have been on Shadow mainly. Shadow was the one who made Infinite go crazy saying "I am not weak!" making him seek more power so he could crush everybody. If Infinite wanted revenge on anybody, it would be Shadow. This game should've been Shadow the Hedgehog instead.
This was one of the worse games I played this year. Short campaign with a story about on par with fanfictions, clunky controls, stupid avatar creation and painful dialogue.

It's been over a month and I'm still so damn mad because the concept is so good and this could've been so great but it just isn't. I mean, they didn't show a single freaking scene of Sonic in imprisonment! I've been waiting years to see that dammit. And he wasn't affected at all by it either. Better release, what do I know, a movie or something or have Sonic Boom S3 parody it... anything, as long as I get something. Oh well... I guess it's at least teased by Infinite that Sonic in fact _was_ kinda scared by him so he didn't go through everything completely unaffected.

sonic 06 tired something new with its story and stuck with it...in this sonic is revealed to be alive and fine by the second mission. At that point the game plays out exactly as you would expect. Sonic 06 was better, and I fucking hate sonic 06...

I agree that the game was a complete shit show but the reason i have so much more hate for this game is because, when i finished it i was so angry that it was that short AND that the game started with a interesting premise but refused to deliver and just trailed off. Plays 06 made me want to shoot myself but the story managed to keep me engaged because tried new stuff and stuck with it. I mean in 06 sonic straight died via impalement, true he is resurrected in the most controversial sonic scene ever but still. In forces they says hes been tortured but when you seen sonic, he is the same as always. No change in him at all after 6 months of torture. The reason id rather play 06 is because the story at least tried the whole way through, in forces you knew exactly what would happen the second sonic is brought back into the story. Plus...infinite's god awful backstory....seriously.
Honestly, as much as I enjoy this concept of playing your own avatar, they REALLY should’ve made this game more on the concept of playing the cast of Sonic characters shown here, I mean HOW COOL would it be to get to do that again like in the original games?! Find a way to combine all the different parts of each character’s gameplay from the Adventure Series, add in Silver’s setup from ‘06, heck bring back the Sonic Heroes concept and set up Team Modes for a brief period, WE HAD Team Chaotix here again!! I could’ve just pictured this being pretty amazing to play through on Story Mode

It's bassicly a time-loop that got literally messed up, it's just like in Little Nightmares 2 but instead of fighting you are helping the older version of yourself. Sonic (from Sonic Mania) got transported to the nothingness in the Sonic generations and that's where the first time loop is cuz he literally meets the older version of himself, this means that HE will find himself in the same situation but this time he will be the older version that meets the younger. And here in Sonic Forces simply the same thing happens

In sophisticated terms, the people who created this game have downsized Tails’ character to the point that he is just another face in the character roster and a shadow of his former self. In a layman’s terms, well... he got the Gohan treatment.
I think the reason why Tails and the others were shafted was because people criticized SEGA for emphasizing the side characters more than Sonic; from Adventure 1 to 06, the games were structured in a way that players were forced to play as other characters, along with Sonic, to complete the game, rather than allowing players to chose who to play as all the way through like the Genesis/Master System days. I don't remember why they did this, but I think it was an attempt to keep the franchise interesting. Players were not that happy about this approach and, combined with the failure of 06, SEGA took the criticism seriously and, starting with Unleashed, made future Sonic games focus solely on Sonic, albeit at the expense of other characters.
What I think is going on is that SEGA takes criticism a bit too strongly and reacts in an extreme fashion; it's this take in criticism that leads to the death of so many Sonic concepts and projects, even ones that are enjoyed by fans.

PieOfCthulhu personally if the point of null space is to be a void with nothing, not even a single spec of matter included, it would be rather hard to make a whole level out of it. But I wouldn’t be against that.
Honestly, I think this game turned out pretty okay. A lot of people have mixed feelings about it, and I can say I do too. I actually enjoyed the cutscenes in the beginning, since Sonic was gone, we can see all the characters interact with one another without him needing to be there. I think it gives them more personality, and we can definitely see how the characters formed different relationships with one another. All in all, I think the game could've been better, it had potential, but it's pretty okay in my book.
Unfortunately, the game being « okay » is what makes it forgettable to a lot of people. There’s nothing that’s super good about it nor anything that’s super bad. Sonic 06 was a mess yet people still remember it because of how bad it was. That being said, I agree that the game did have potential.

Yeah, I agree. I think the one thing it could have done better is have more levels or make the levels longer, as some people did complain about how short the game is (as the only way to put more time in it is if you go for the hidden items in each and every level), and the fact that Avatar customization is limited.
Honestly aside from the actual story, I like the character animations and the camera movements. It almost feels like a Pixar movie.

Honestly could be vastly improved with just a few changes.
-don't just tell us about eggmans conquering - SHOW it to us. They give us a taste, but we need more if it needs to feel real.
-at least in first battles - have sonics attacks do next to nothing at all to infinite. Gives him a more godlike, impenetrable feeling. Don't just make him invincible in cutscenes - in the game too.
-give the other villains depth - don't just cheese them to be illusions.
Possibly most importantly though - GIVE US A REASON TO CARE. They keep trying to remind us of old games when what they really need to do is develop sonic. Have him grow from his mistakes - give him flaws, give him weaknesses. Sonics fans have grown up - have him grow up too.

Technically, they did show Eggman's conquering, even if only a little - that was basically the point of the Avatar's flashback. We literally saw Infinite leading Eggman's robots and annihilating several Resistance members, leaving only the Avatar left to tell the tale and join Knuckles, Espio and the others.

The game was actually pretty decent. Yeah, some of the gameplay mechanics were wonky, and some of the dialogue is cheesy, but it's still pretty decent. Honestly, the biggest issue I had with the game was the way the story was presented (as well as the quality of the cutscenes.)
Soru98 with sonic, cheesiness is a given so I just accept it in a world where your main character is a fast blue Hedgehog. But yeah the story seemed...I dunno..I feel like they tried too much to have the OC to be so plot important. I can see it easily working as a online multiplayer thing. Just not as the story, the focus should,d have been on modern and classic sonic , especially since Mania and forces are connected. That and the final boss..wasted potential . Eggman says he's surpassed infinite and uses the lasers and rocks only. I would have had Eggman at first use a combo of the Death Egg Robot and Dragoon and the final phase would have been Eggman using the Ruby to roboticise himself . But what we got was copy and paste wisp nega armour

I feel as if the focus should have been on Shadow mainly. Shadow was the one who made Infinite go crazy saying "I am not weak!" making him seek more power so he could crush everybody. If Infinite wanted revenge on anybody, it would be Shadow. This game should've been Shadow the Hedgehog instead.

It's been over a month and I'm still so damn mad because the concept is so good and this could've been so great but it just isn't. I agree that the game was a complete shit show but the reason i have so much more hate for this game is because, when i finished it i was so angry that it was that short AND that the game started with a interesting premise but refused to deliver and just trailed off. Plays 06 made me want to shoot myself but the story managed to keep me engaged because tried new stuff and stuck with it. I mean in 06 sonic straight died via impalement, true he is resurrected in the most controversial sonic scene ever but still. In forces they says hes been tortured but when you seen sonic, he is the same as always. No change in him at all after 6 months of torture. The reason id rather play 06 is because the story at least tried the whole way through, in forces you knew exactly what would happen the second sonic is brought back into the story. Plus...infinite's god awful backstory....seriously.

Honestly, as much as I enjoy this concept of playing your own avatar, they REALLY should’ve made this game more on the concept of playing the cast of Sonic characters shown here, I mean HOW COOL would it be to get to do that again like in the original games?! Find a way to combine all the different parts of each character’s gameplay from the Adventure Series, add in Silver’s setup from ‘06, heck bring back the Sonic Heroes concept and set up Team Modes for a brief period, WE HAD Team Chaotix here again!! I could’ve just pictured this being pretty amazing to play through on Story Mode
