Dowel Bars. Dowel bars are short steelbars that provide a mechanical connection between slabs without restricting horizontal joint movement. They increase load transfer efficiency by allowing the leave slab to assume some of the load before the load is actually over it.

Hi and good day. Do you think that providing a very short expansion cap at approximately 25 mm from the dowel left end side, would allow movement during expansion and contraction of concrete slab? In my opinion, the fact that the length of (L/2 - 25 mm) is in contact with the concrete at the left slab, would not allow free movement. What do you think? Kindly explain.

Question, um, can anyone point me in the direction of a good website to buy some of these, and where I can find out, or maybe you can describe how to install them, and what kind I should get? I'm just doing a simple sidewalk and patio, won't have any weight on it like a driveway.
