Holds back his henchmen for a proper one on one duel, took his sword for a trophy and goes around his body.... Gotta love the big guy, that's just pure respect
This is the reason cocytus is my favorite guardian and tied with sebas as my favorite character. Despite his overwhelming advantages he's both humble and respectful. Back in the lizard man arc despite them have no chance of winning he gave them a one step retreat. Something he didn't have to do, granted his frost arua would of killed them all had he let it go full power and just waited.
So much that Cocytus did in this scene was a show of respect. He holds back his henchmen to offer a proper duel, takes out the Emperor Blade as if Brain were a worthy foe, lets Brain show off all his martial arts, claims the katana as a trophy despite having much better weapons, and indeed, he goes around the street Brain was guarding. Cocytus made every kind guesture he could.
@@ShankaDaWanka Cocytus understands something that few do, Resolve, is a tool that exceeds any weapon. And when one encounters an opponent whose resolve cannot be broken, even in death, it must be respected. Because if there indeed is anything after death, then the one who fell just went onto it with the strongest weapon in existence, the likes of which his grip on could not be broken even as he passed from life into death. In life there are many different realms, Cocytus perceives not just the physical one, but the Spiritual one as well, and while Brain was plainly physically lesser than him, His spirit was indomitable, and to be such, is to be spiritually Invincible. Imagine if Brain had been as strong as, or stronger than Cocytus, if he was, Cocytus would at best have been able to hope only for a draw. He understands the value and the strength of the spirit.
For those of you who don't know what Cocytus did dates back to the ancient samurai days when facing an opponent who was of equal or greater strength than you and besting them in, a samurai would draw circle around them with their sword, and walk around them as a show of respect. And any other warrior that walk past with see that circle and know that a fight of two warriors took place there and they would also walk around as a sign of respect.
I like how even though his attack failed, in his last moment before death he had a satisfied smile knowing that he had achieved his absolute peak and that he got to fight another honerable warrior.
Our boi fought the floor guardians on 3 differebt occasions and it was only on the third did they finally slay him. I know its a lot more nuanced than that but brain is one of my favorites 😍
fought and died with honor a true warrior's death he fought two of the strongest floor guardians and had the respect of cocytus and now he can meet his old friend and rival gazef in the after life what a good and proud man.
Stating his name in response to his challenger sharing his own name, granting his opponent time to prepare and allowing him to initiate battle, swiftly dispatching a meaningful fight and a quick death, properly encasing his body in ice, and detouring around the site of battle and burial is a supreme showing of a warrior's respect to their opponent.
This scene was too wholesome... Of all the servants that Brain encountered, Cocytus was the one who respected him the most... Hope to see him soon at his side
All Brian ever wanted is to be treated with Respect by some of the strongest in the New World and also surpass Gazef. He fulfilled both in his last moments when he went all out against Cocytus, I believe he surpassed level 40-50 which in the New World is basically Hero level. At the same time Cocytus one of the strongest in the NW went all out showing him the greatest respect as a warrior. Gave it his all and went out with a smile. Couldnʻt of asked for anything more.
@@uhfanzonly not to diss the fight but DID Cocytus go all out? i dont think so we saw what happens when a servant of Ainz (aka Shaltear) goes all out no disrespect to Brain, but if Cocytus really went all out, both him and the castle behind him would be reduced to nothing
This was the culmination of Brain's training. Using True nail clipper, the perfected form of an attack that damaged Shaltear (literally cutting her finger nail) against Cocyutus was poetry considering that Cocytus's build is about dealing powerful single strikes in devastating combos. Also Cocytus using the god slaying blade gifted to him by his creator, shows how much respect he held for Brain.
Brain has one of the best arcs in Overlord. Starting as a cocky a-hole who gets humbled by Shaltear, followed by regaining resolve meeting Sebas, getting his growth challenged again by her. Fighting his fear and besting it as he clips Shaltears nail, then getting acknowledged by Cocytus in his final stance to protect the kingdom. I will always think Beef Stroganoff was the most in character Good strong guy. But Weeb Glasscannon will have a special place in my heart
In the light novel Brain was buying time for a bunch of kids that were running away and Cocytus recognized he wouldn't have stood in place like that if he didn't have someone or something he was protecting. That's why Cocytus took the detour, to give the kids Brain was protecting enough time to maybe escape. Also while Brain was thinking of a way to beat Cocytus, all he was thinking about was the most respectful way to kill Brain. He considered breaking his sword and cutting through but found that to be disrespectful. All he was thinking about was the cleanest kill he could give Brain without dismembering him. He also took his sword over using it to mark his grave to honor his memory as a warrior who had the resolve to fight him, something he would have no use for outside of preserving Brain in his memories.
I disagree. Brain was protecting no one. He was going to die in capital, he wanted to die by his own way - fighting qgainst ainz oal gown. But decided to fight against cocytus because he was freezing the road which was very important to him (a lot of stuff happened on that road, gazef rescued brain there, brain met sebas there and few more stuff). Regarding kids, they had already escaped
I like to think that Coccytus has a "trophy" room dedicated to those who he vanquished in battle and saw them as worthy foes. So that their memory lives on through him. Btw we really need a solo Coccytus episode like one where hes actually interacting with people just to see more of his behavior.
Cocytus is pretty much a romanticized Samurai on steroids. Every npc are amplified and extremely godly competent versions of their “creators”. So yeah, the human that visioned him must have been obsessed about honor, dignity and beauty.
@@williamconto6977 European Knights as well. One of the highest forms of praise and highest shows of respect that one warrior can ever offer to another is to ask for their name, as that means they consider their opponent to have been a worthy enough foe to be worth remembering. And to refuse such a request is pretty much the most grievous insult one can make. Also, the fact that Cocytus took Brain's sword as a trophy is something that European Knights actually did whenever they bested a Samurai in combat (which due to the fact that a Knight's Plate Armor was nearly impenetrable to a Katana was something that happened pretty often)....on those rare occasions that a Knight & Samurai ever met in combat. The Knight would often take the Samurai's katana home with them as a trophy....not to use it as a weapon, but rather to display it as a true work of art to be admired.
@@VergilArcanis yes, which is why I said "the strongest pure native". The non-native ancestors of the black scripture aside, they're still the strongest humans in the world
I love Cocytus' character progression. When we first started he was just a mindless servant to Ainz. Would do whatever he said without thinking. But Ainz told him to start thinking, to start developing his own sense of self. And Cocytus took those instructions and became an honorable warrior who seeks out other strong and honorable foes to do battle with, knowing that he'd defeat whoever came before him because he's just so much stronger. Despite that, he never once gives anything less than the highest honors to his fallen foes.
@@kc_boii7159 well yes but tbf, his very best couldnt even break her finger prior, from this point on he understood his place he was broken apart litteraly. Nail clipping her was a great way for him to realise how much he has grown, he knows he cant beat anyone from the Sorcerer kingdom thats as strong as her, but he knows now he can do SOMETHING against those that might as well be gods compared to them True Nail Clipper therefore being the culmination of this growth, he cannot rise higher by sheer limitation of his body, but by tearing his body apart keeping it together by his mind and buffs, he can acheive strenght thats above the litteral limitation of the Human Races best in the New World, an attack that above cutting a Nail, is actually just strong enough to put a theoretical scratch on the opponent beyond the passive defanse of "God" against mortals. We should see it less as a "dude is completely broken" and more of a "Dude knows he can only lose, but he wont die without going beyond his limit first" instead of relying lazily on his best, going above his best just once
@@kc_boii7159 Yes he did. Honestly, that might have been my favorite bit in all of Overlord. It's one of the few times we see someone in the story get genuinely messed up after an encounter and had their character fundamentally change as a result. You **would** be traumatized if you solo-faced someone so powerful they could kill entire armies with ease. Brain later cutting Shalltear's nail, making him ecstatic made total sense but also made his death really disappointing. He didn't have to die here. He arguably had the most character growth out of all the entire cast and it got thrown away. GG.
@Archedgar to be fair the only reason he survived was 1.) Her pride getting her captured the first time and 2.) He ran back to whats his name that they had strict orders to keep alive because of it being the princesses prize for betraying everyone.
This "duel" showed why Cocytus is my favorite Floor Guardian. Just like in Season 2 with the Lizardmen, here he also shown respect towards Brain Unglaus. Brain knew he had no chance against someone like Cocytus, yet he still tried to attack him. It was in vain, but in the eyes of Cocytus, it was honorable.
this series got me moved enough to make cry after both Brain and Gazeff fights, this is so well written that even knowing what's gonna happen still it manages to make it epic
I like the idea of someone coming across the trail of ice afterwards, knowing the power that made it, the king that controls the person with that power, and seeing a man frozen and the path moving around him. Seeing that even though he clearly lost, he performed a feat great enough that for whatever reason, the incredibly powerful person had no choice but to divert their course. What a legacy to leave behind.
If you look closely, behind Unglaus' body, there's no frost. I think Cocytus wanted to honor the warrior's wish and went around his body to honor his resolve in protecting what's behind him. By going around his body, he just created a monument for Unglaus.
That's basically it. And someone else touched on it in the comments, but it's actually a recorded act of recognition that when samurai clashed, the victor would draw a circle in the ground around his adversary and walk around it. Any who saw the circle were to do the same, for it was (in fact) a monument to a site where a terrific battle took place.
@@douglasmiguel3539 A bit from this scene how it was in the novel “-Brain Unglaus.” He declared his name, raised his sword, and focused his mind. “One. Who. Serves. Under. The. Rule. Of. The. Supreme. Being, His. Majesty. Ainz. Ooal. Gown, Cocytus.” In the moment, Brain’s eyes widened in shock. That was probably his opponent’s name. He had not expected to receive a reply at all. While he was shocked, he also felt déjà vu. What was it? He felt like he had heard this name before but he could not remember from where. Perhaps he was just overthinking it. And then, Brain felt unbearable shame at how rude he had been. The opponent in front of him was willing to respond to him, yet he was so rude to be lost in his own muddy memories. The reason why his thoughts went in that direction was because his opponent was a monster he could never hope to match, it was probably on the same level as Sebas or Shalltear Bloodfallen. That meant that to his opponent, he was nothing more than an ant in his way. Despite all of that, his opponent did not treat him like an inferior being. If their roles had been reversed, what would Brain do? He would have probably just cut him down without much consideration and continued on his way. Brain was so insignificant in comparison to his opponent, he probably could not even leave an impression of himself in his mind. Brain straightened his back and gently lowered his head, like what a student would do for his instructor. “Thank you very much.” “No. Need.” Brain gripped onto the hilt of his katana tightly. Stronger, stronger! To raise his weapons against a being who possessed overwhelming power without a plan felt like he was betraying the goodwill of those who had saved him. What he was doing right now was no different than suicide. Also, if he thought about it, what use would stopping the enemy here be? None at all. Yet still- I’m such an idiot, this Cocytus-danna couldn’t be the only one attacking this city. I have failed those two... no, I’m no longer a child. My future is what I make it out to be. That’s right... it’s in my hands and my hands only! Cocytus, who was looking at Brain, stuck his halberd into the ground. “-God. Slaying. Emperor. Blade.” An ōdachi of gigantic proportions, much longer than Brain’s height, was pulled out of thin air, with which Cocytus assumed the jōdan stance. This was such an honor. Words need not be exchanged. Cocytus had already conveyed his wish to resolve this by the blade. Brain breathed out heavily and rapidly drew in air again. It was like he was trying to expel all of the air remaining in his lungs. He was completely defenseless while doing so, yet Cocytus did not move a single inch. From his posture Brain could tell that he held massive respect for him. Not only was his strength top-tier, but so was his character. If he was of a similar level to the monster known as Shalltear, then he could probably make use of his weapon at speeds far greater than anything Brain could achieve, even in such an upright position. Even so, Cocytus still held his stance. This wasn’t because he viewed Brain as a formidable opponent. But under the pretext that Brain had made his resolve, Cocytus was treating him with the honor of a fellow warrior. Such an action overwhelmed Brain with joy. He’s not the same as Shalltear!
I find it funny how in the beginning we more or less hated brain, he was as far as we are concern a coward only to see this demonstration, I don't know about anyone else but I quite enjoyed his journey all the way up to this point psa Cocytus is best bug
After the death of his best friend brain turned around and try to be the best he can be sadly it aint gonna be enough to beat a floor guardian but he made a valiant effort till the end. And cocytus gives respect to those who deserve em.
Who ever considered him a coward? If it's about him running from Shalltear, the hell else was he supposed to do? He was 100% outmatched and sticking around longer would have ended in his death.
@@cryoine7194true but this time he already knew from the start he was outmatched and would die, he accepted that fact a while ago. Against Shalltear, dude had only until that point faced 1 serious defeat with his own technique against no less than the strongest the kingdom had to offer, then this unknown stranger comes in, slay his men, tanks his best with a nail. Anyone would fear that and get into fight of flight instinct. Oh mind you he was a coward, but he was a rational one, he fled because for the first time in his life he met something so outrageously strong in no world would he be able ro beat, like a force of nature or a calamity
Something the anime never told you that BRAIN broke the limits that a normal human could reach, he is the only one in the overlord world that achieved it, not even gazef, this moment in the novel is very epic, here they simplified it too much that is why it is considered a bad adaptation.
@@NonEssentialNonsense well yea its actually incredible Brain by himself isnt actually close to the strongest non Ygdrasil related human by level alone lol i think he is like around the lower 30's in level, but ultimately the "Realm of Heroes" of humanity essentially encompasses a bit below his level till either lvl 34/5 or 39 cant remember, dont have the exact information either its been a while. 39 is the upper limit of Humanity anyway, like physically in the New World a Human cannot reach higher than that, between the troubles of getting exp being harder in there and race limitation etc... Obviously equipement and hybrids etc can bring the actual power beyond said limit, but since humanity has no race level to speak off they are completely stuck there. Having said all that, Cocytus has a passive skill that simply nullifies all attack whose power is beneath a certain level, the level being 40, henceforth no normal human without some sort of special weapon can even attempt to harm him succesfully. But Brain, eventhough he got rekt, eventhough he stood no chance, had his hit actually connect with Cocytus, eventhough his body was failing him due to the strain of the potions coupled with the overdose of special techniques, and he wouldnt have lasted any longer than that one hit anyway, meaning for that one instant, the Normal human Brain Unglaus managed to bypass the limitations of humanity and ascend beyond, not by much, but beyond nonetheless, this strike is the single strongest attack a non magician normal human can reach in Overlord. His mind was so strong at that moment that his body resisted the power to strike the equivalent of Gods compared to them in power. The scene in the anime is epic, but it simply doesnt consider the "this is the very culmination of the power of Humanity in a single strike, reaching beyond its limit found in despair and death, wielded by the human who was never meant to be the strongest"
i feel like brain unglaus had so much potential to be a greater character than he already was if they didnt just kill him off like this!! litterally all he got was "hm he was pretty strong"from the blue snow crab man
Brain ended his story getting what he wanted. He was finally stronger than Gazef and gained the confidence to oppose Nazarick, something Shalltear had decimated back in season 1.
Cocytus also did something else out of respect he froze his body. I'm not 100% what happened to it, but considering ainz reduced the kingdom to rocks at the end of all of this, cocytus clearly did this so no one would touch or disrespect Brain.
I hate that having completed his arc and regaining his confidence when it was crushed by Shaltear, he was just written off like this. He was such an important human character and there's so few now. I really wanted Ainz to take a liking to him and get some actual fun comedy between him and Shaltear. To me, the audience was Brain, we saw Nazarick though his eyes and having him get introduced to the real Nazarck was something I was really looking forward to. I expected Gazeff to do so, but seeing Brain take up his mantle he was PERFECT for the role.
Brain was probably the strongest human so far . Even tho , even when he pushed himself to his physical limit, used everything he had he himself thought it no more than a nail clipper . He knew he couldn't win, he knew he would die, yet he didn't hesitate to fight. He went through despair time and time again, but it made him stronger. He went from a human who's martial arts made no difference in the eyes of a guardian, to a legend who was considered to be of great help to Nazaric by another . Truly, a great warrior. Brain Unglaus
If we talk about humans he is but again there is black scripture captain who is a human and strongest in nw we know is zesshi she is spoiler : level : 88
I wish Brain had used that ring and sword that was given to climb for some reason, not saying he would win here but still it would have been more satiesfying. The guy used god slaying emperor blade against a normal katana XD
That’s his base weapon if Brain was an actual threat he would’ve wielded four blades at once. Can’t underestimate anyone in this could easily have a world item
Also, Cocytus only draws that blade against those he sees as true warriors as the god slaying blade was originally Takemikazuchi's blade which passed on to his creation Cocytus who uses it to remind himself of his master and his warrior spirit, so affectively, if Cocytus wields that blade he sees his opponent as someone with the same warrior spirit as Takemikazuchi, his master.
That would have only empower Ainz, because the weapon and the accessory, would have been taken. I'm sure Brain knew he didn't stand a chance, and didn't wanted to give such important blade to the enemy
Notable is that Cocytus took Brain's sword as a trophy. That blade's quality is considered less than trash by Nazarick standards. Yet Cocytus honored Brain by taking his blade. Brain is an ant trying to fight a man, but his will, resolve and spirit rivals that of heroes. Cocytus is a fine warrior for acknowledging that. Warrior Takemikazuchi would be proud. I do wonder now what kind of man Takemikazuchi was. The NPCs reflect aspects of their makers, especially on things not dictated by their custom lore. What kind of person Warrior Takemikazuchi would have been, for Cocytus to be like this.
He died but there's a chance he gets revived. I mean Sebas promise he will pay them back with their help at rescuing Tuare. So he may request it to Ainz if he ever noticed Brain was in Cocytus domain.
@@marianomiguel2982 but Sebas would think he need to honor his promises. Let Brain Decide once they resurrected him. Heck he might actually get a lot of new skills once he gets resurrected. Remember Neia.
Ita not *wholesome * its bittersweet wholesome is pure good with hardly any negative. The dude is dead but was respected. Expand your vocabulary alot of people seem to spam wholesome now
this is where unglaus breaks the game status, as he was not supposed to know all this stuff. you can see this when he both drinks the bottles, he talks to cocytus in a non-NPC matter, & When he is internally bleeding doing his new move. a move mind you, was not in the game.
Humans can only cast a number of spells simultaneously, his mind or concentration only allows them to cast 3 spells max. And 3 still means You are quite a formidable warrior. Brain went over that limitation set to Humans and cast a 4 spell, reason why he started bleeding and becoming even stronger than Gazef, but then he went even further beyond and cast a fifth spell, and action who was truly impressive. It was stated that he reach the realm of Heroes. And Cocytus was so impressed that, even though the right thing was presenting such a man to Ainz, He choose not to. In some way betraying Ainz.
Game Status? This has already been in S4 and you still think the plot was "Trapped in the game"? They were never in the game, the players and Npcs was simply brought in this New World along with it are some of the game mechanics. Brain Demonstrated Martial Arts and it was never part of Yggdrassil Magic System but instead native to the people of the new World. This has been explained in S1. What Brain demonstrated was his own resolve to fight despite knowing he will lose and he used all the resources he has. The potions are meant to make his body stronger. He pushed himself to his utmost limit to pull-off a single move hoping he'll atleast give it his all but Cocytus is the strongest Melee Weapon Fighter amongst the guardians who are level 100, of course he wouldn't stand a chance. But Brain is no longer the same condescending man he was 3 seasons ago. He's now a fully respected warrior surpassing even the late Gazef.
The discord sound was mean. It has been multiple weeks since someone send me anything and then I heard the sound and was full of hope but then I realized that it was from the Video xD
Cocytus is with no doubt my favourite character, he is just the best man and most respectable bug I've ever meet, it's literally impossible to hate him, and if you say you hate him, you are lying to yourself
If recall before this scene, there were still citizens in their homes and Cocytus path was instantly freezes his surroundings. Thus an instant death for them. Cocytus was instructed by Ainz to head straight for the capital. His detour might have killed other people in his path, but the ones surrounding Brain were at least saved to be remembered as their hero.
I like to think that in this moment, Brains Attack would have killed a Death Knight. For Humans, level 40 is the hard cap. But for this brief moment on steroids and straining his muscles beyond their limit, he broke beyond that Barrier, setting a new record for humanity. Thats why he smiled.
To those thinking what the true nail clipper is, it's a focused version of 6 edge of a light but goes even further than he might've surpassed Gazef's record(8edge of light) so it's 9 Strikes in a single slash. It's hiten mitsurigi Style. Cocytus Drew his blade faster than the 9 Dragon Slash. Cocytus is Battousai confirmed.
Its also stated that he broke one or two rules of the world stacking skills on it, thats why he started losing blood, he went out like the strongest hero
@@Dominated001 He didn't break the rules of the world he broke his limits. Martial arts is native to new worlders and it follows the physique of the person. Brain is not yet on the hero level yet but he stepped on it and danced on his last moments albeit being bloody.

@@Dominated001 It might be a translation miswording and no better words in english can convey the awesome moment happening since it's also the climax. Overlord has world breaking magics and items and Brain is nowhere within that level that's why Cocytus still defeated him in one strike. Brain has indeed reached the realm of heroes. Speculation shows his attack is floored at level 40 and might even be stronger than what it purports to be. Brain's talent (probably being so good with swordsmanship) has yet to reach "broken" level. Meanwhile there is the likes of Evileye who can copy any type of magic, even wild magic and probably world items.
if some giant ass bug warrior reaches into a pocket dimension, pulls out a 3 metre long katana, and calls it his "GOD SLAYING EMPEROR BLADE" you just know you're fucked, like, you ain't beating that
Mentioned in the light novel, at that moment the brain had reached lvl 40, and surpassed the gazef, among normal humans, without the help of any equipment, he reached a level that is already called the kingdom of heroes (those from lvl 40 or above are considered heroes) Edit: the black scriptures cannot even be considered as normal, since they are descended from players, they still have access to equipment of the same Either way, BRAIN UNGLAUS IS AWESOME
I really liked Brain after all the sebas stuff. He quickly became one of my favorite characters. I’m glad and thankful for the respect Cocyutus showed for Brain.
… this anime is such a love-hate for me. Like, I know humans aren’t strong but DAMN give them something. The only one who has basically survived through shit is Climb and that’s cause his yandere is so obsessed with him, I don’t know what to do at this point. Like, can we not have a human who can be good and join them?
when brain use his ultimate material art the apponent is the one who always enter on it area by themself if not brain could not activated it. like case on video cocytus can just ignore brain and take around way without deal with him. I think it not good choice to use it on duel 1v.1.
I choose to believe he came back later to take his frozen body to rest on his floor forever. He took the time to freeze and go around him. Makes sense he wouldn’t let the body be incinerated afterwards
This the perfect showcase why this series regardless of medium, just never went uphill but only started high and fell form there. The plot and style of story makes it impossible for there to be stakes, all actually interesting characters with some actual growth get killed of by one note automatons. And the story and the main character will still pretend that he is deep down a really nice person even after he let the 3rd or 4th holocausts happen.
This season was the real deal, the capital that we grew accustomed with being a happy and stormed by people city is now a conquered and war torn combat zone. They killed Gazef Stronoff in the last season, and now Climb lost all he had except from the princess, and Brain lost even his life ………… Goddamn……
Another reason for Cocytus to show respect to brain because he knew everyone has left the country and no one is left to even give them a good fight. So he was shocked to see brain who has encountered 2 floor guardians as per the report of Albedo. Cocytus knew if he wasn't, their brain would've faced anyone who came across him. And that he has already surpassed Gazef. He paid respect to brain as a sign that he is worth the title of the strongest warrior of the kingdom 💪

@@kc_boii7159 well yes but tbf, his very best couldnt even break her finger prior, from this point on he understood his place he was broken apart litteraly.
Nail clipping her was a great way for him to realise how much he has grown, he knows he cant beat anyone from the Sorcerer kingdom thats as strong as her, but he knows now he can do SOMETHING against those that might as well be gods compared to them
True Nail Clipper therefore being the culmination of this growth, he cannot rise higher by sheer limitation of his body, but by tearing his body apart keeping it together by his mind and buffs, he can acheive strenght thats above the litteral limitation of the Human Races best in the New World, an attack that above cutting a Nail, is actually just strong enough to put a theoretical scratch on the opponent beyond the passive defanse of "God" against mortals.
Seeing that even though he clearly lost, he performed a feat great enough that for whatever reason, the incredibly powerful person had no choice but to divert their course. What a legacy to leave behind.
They firebombed the capital shortly after.
A bit from this scene how it was in the novel
“-Brain Unglaus.”
He declared his name, raised his sword, and focused his mind.
“One. Who. Serves. Under. The. Rule. Of. The. Supreme. Being, His. Majesty.
Ainz. Ooal. Gown, Cocytus.”
In the moment, Brain’s eyes widened in shock.
That was probably his opponent’s name. He had not expected to receive a
reply at all.
While he was shocked, he also felt déjà vu.
What was it? He felt like he had heard this name before but he could not
remember from where. Perhaps he was just overthinking it.
And then, Brain felt unbearable shame at how rude he had been.
The opponent in front of him was willing to respond to him, yet he was so
rude to be lost in his own muddy memories.
The reason why his thoughts went in that direction was because his opponent
was a monster he could never hope to match, it was probably on the same level
as Sebas or Shalltear Bloodfallen. That meant that to his opponent, he was
nothing more than an ant in his way. Despite all of that, his opponent did not
treat him like an inferior being.
If their roles had been reversed, what would Brain do? He would have probably
just cut him down without much consideration and continued on his way. Brain
was so insignificant in comparison to his opponent, he probably could not even
leave an impression of himself in his mind.
Brain straightened his back and gently lowered his head, like what a student
would do for his instructor.
“Thank you very much.”
“No. Need.”
Brain gripped onto the hilt of his katana tightly. Stronger, stronger!
To raise his weapons against a being who possessed overwhelming power
without a plan felt like he was betraying the goodwill of those who had saved
him. What he was doing right now was no different than suicide.
Also, if he thought about it, what use would stopping the enemy here be?
None at all.
Yet still-
I’m such an idiot, this Cocytus-danna couldn’t be the only one attacking this city. I
have failed those two... no, I’m no longer a child. My future is what I make it out to be.
That’s right... it’s in my hands and my hands only!
Cocytus, who was looking at Brain, stuck his halberd into the ground.
“-God. Slaying. Emperor. Blade.”
An ōdachi of gigantic proportions, much longer than Brain’s height, was
pulled out of thin air, with which Cocytus assumed the jōdan stance.
This was such an honor.
Words need not be exchanged. Cocytus had already conveyed his wish to
resolve this by the blade.
Brain breathed out heavily and rapidly drew in air again. It was like he was
trying to expel all of the air remaining in his lungs.
He was completely defenseless while doing so, yet Cocytus did not move a
single inch. From his posture Brain could tell that he held massive respect for
him.
Not only was his strength top-tier, but so was his character.
If he was of a similar level to the monster known as Shalltear, then he could
probably make use of his weapon at speeds far greater than anything Brain could
achieve, even in such an upright position. Even so, Cocytus still held his stance.
This wasn’t because he viewed Brain as a formidable opponent.
But under the pretext that Brain had made his resolve, Cocytus was treating
him with the honor of a fellow warrior.
Such an action overwhelmed Brain with joy.
He’s not the same as Shalltear!

oh, that's cool. I didn't know that
@@NonEssentialNonsense well yea its actually incredible
Brain by himself isnt actually close to the strongest non Ygdrasil related human by level alone lol i think he is like around the lower 30's in level, but ultimately the "Realm of Heroes" of humanity essentially encompasses a bit below his level till either lvl 34/5 or 39 cant remember, dont have the exact information either its been a while.

What kind of person Warrior Takemikazuchi would have been, for Cocytus to be like this.

nice explanation
I wish like when he was able to cut Shaltear's nail he'd left a scratch on Cocytus it would've been the height of honor for him
@@nicklancial7103 would of been entertaining to see
実はこれ、六光連斬なんだよね。ライバルであったガゼフの技を習得しているという熱いシーン。そして唯一世界の理から逸脱した存在。
世界の理から抜けて尚、越えられぬ絶対的強者
@@user-pi1lb4tf2f in the novel its stated that he broke one or two rules of the world, and that he entered the realm of heroes, i dont say it, its the source material
@@user-pi1lb4tf2f so, because you dont believe it, its a error in translation, ok buddy
if some giant ass bug warrior reaches into a pocket dimension, pulls out a 3 metre long katana, and calls it his "GOD SLAYING EMPEROR BLADE" you just know you're fucked, like, you ain't beating that
1:23 so beautiful, you can hear Gasef welcoming Brain to the “people with the best deaths in Overlord” server
Mentioned in the light novel, at that moment the brain had reached lvl 40, and surpassed the gazef, among normal humans, without the help of any equipment, he reached a level that is already called the kingdom of heroes (those from lvl 40 or above are considered heroes)
Edit: the black scriptures cannot even be considered as normal, since they are descended from players, they still have access to equipment of the same
Either way, BRAIN UNGLAUS IS AWESOME
Ahahah that discord notification came at the worst moment possible 1:22
Sebas, Cocytus and Demiurge me best characters of Nazarick
I really liked Brain after all the sebas stuff. He quickly became one of my favorite characters. I’m glad and thankful for the respect Cocyutus showed for Brain.
… this anime is such a love-hate for me. Like, I know humans aren’t strong but DAMN give them something. The only one who has basically survived through shit is Climb and that’s cause his yandere is so obsessed with him, I don’t know what to do at this point. Like, can we not have a human who can be good and join them?
Cocytus sensed that Blaine had stood up to stop him, and took a detour to honor his determination.
when brain use his ultimate material art the apponent is the one who always enter on it area by themself if not brain could not activated it. like case on video cocytus can just ignore brain and take around way without deal with him.
I think it not good choice to use it on duel 1v.1.
I choose to believe he came back later to take his frozen body to rest on his floor forever. He took the time to freeze and go around him. Makes sense he wouldn’t let the body be incinerated afterwards
No honour in deing, better to flee and come back stronger
There was no escape,
Better to face death with a smile as a man, than to run and hide like a rat.
This clip suffered deeper cuts than Brain Unglaus himself.
A warrior given total respect to a fallen warrior
indeed
This the perfect showcase why this series regardless of medium, just never went uphill but only started high and fell form there.
The plot and style of story makes it impossible for there to be stakes, all actually interesting characters with some actual growth get killed of by one note automatons.
And the story and the main character will still pretend that he is deep down a really nice person even after he let the 3rd or 4th holocausts happen.
1:21 pinged to death 💀
1:22 'Brain Unglaus has left the server'
This season was the real deal, the capital that we grew accustomed with being a happy and stormed by people city is now a conquered and war torn combat zone.
They killed Gazef Stronoff in the last season, and now Climb lost all he had except from the princess, and Brain lost even his life
…………
Goddamn……
Another reason for Cocytus to show respect to brain because he knew everyone has left the country and no one is left to even give them a good fight. So he was shocked to see brain who has encountered 2 floor guardians as per the report of Albedo. Cocytus knew if he wasn't, their brain would've faced anyone who came across him. And that he has already surpassed Gazef. He paid respect to brain as a sign that he is worth the title of the strongest warrior of the kingdom 💪
That Discord noti got me
HA!
Am I the only one who heard the discord message ping sound twice in this video?
Damn you Discord :)
Cocytus after grabbing his sword:
*Another one to add to my collection.*
Its a good thing the one Brain meet is Cocytus if he meet other floor guardiang like aura his dead body will be turn into a trash 🗿
Brain unglaus is a very interesting character from being a extremely cocky person when he first started his path to being a warrior, to be beaten down by a person who had slightly more talent then him and then train for years in order to beat him in one more duel. Just to be essentially curb stoped by shalltear breaking all of his hope of entering the realm of hero’s. Only then to have his courage slowly build up once again and enter that realm of hero’s with his duel against cocytus even for a mere second gaining more respect then even the lizard men in the eyes of cocytus
