A Viet Nam vet myself, I lost my buddy to this war back in 2006 due to complications from injuries sustained in that war. He was like a brother to me. He told me shortly before he died, that "War is not the answer!" RIP Jerry and thanks Bruce for taking Edwin's song and giving it even more meaning than before. My son, born 2002 said "Mom, I'm just like the kids in the 60's, I'm growing up hearing about war." I found myself flashbacking to the 70's when the Vietnam vets were being treated like crap and the draft dodgers were returning to America or attempting to become permanent Canadian citizens. I remember turning 18 the year this song was released and my mom's hatred of that opening monologue . She'd do her best to talk over it, make noise or even say "You've had enough of MuchMusic, time to turn off the TV" if they announced a Bruce Springsteen video was coming up.
As a young teen when the song came in 69 or so, I remember meeting a couple of young guys up here in Canada that came here.My heart was broken for them having to leave their families and life so they could stay safe. This song always reminded me that wars really don’t accomplish much other than destroy families. My heart now at my age 65 still feels the same . We must stand now with Ukraine!
To every mother and father who have never seen their little son come back home. To every kid that has grown up without a daddy. To the men that saw their friends dying in their arms. To everyone that was forced to grab a rifle and go to a place they knew nothing about, to kill human beings that never did anything to harm them. To the ones who went home and were never the same. We can all hope for a better world. We have to dream. Give peace a chance.

Nothing beats the Original Give Credit where credit due Edwin Starr is the creator of this powerful meaningful song. This is a great cover but always important give credit to the original writer & singer
Still just as intense a performance 28 years on.
I remember my dad had Bruce Springsteen box set and that song was one of them it blew me away especially the impact drum parts crank it in your car with a goid system it sounds like your at the concert
The passion and angst are off the charts
"war can't give life, it can only take it away".....how a single sentence can mean so much, but does anyone listen!!!!!
So powerful song and version !!
Bruce Springsteenカッコいい♡この歌テンポがいいね!
Brilliant version
Bruce for President
This was awesome, I had goose bumps when he started singing!
This is a great song to begin with and Bruce does really well on vocals, but Nils Lofgren and that solo are really set this recording on fire.
What a great song real music 🎶 I love it
Pure poetic musical power.
if every soldier in this world put down their arms and went home, there would be no wars....
zedrick zedwick Most soldiers are at home or have been temporarily invited to another country. It's Americans that need to go home. Without stealing anything from other people's homes.
Springteen live- 75-85'. 1985? Springsteen was aleady a legend and eternal. To pre-Gen X he was a warning from the past of times to come. I had barely started my life. I lived a summer before to 'Born In the USA' before I ever knew there was a Nebraska. Or The River. 86'. I thought I was dumb to have dropped all my coin on a live album set. Here we are today. And Bruce...is Bruce.
I despise it when people say the two words "draft dodger". This song is the reason why people say no, and you *can* say "no". It's allowed.
Peace!
Draft dodging is cowardly-I say this having never served and hoping to never be called to do so
Having said that-if my country needs me to serve, then I will answer the call
Voting is our speech in such matters
A song that touches your soul in those Special Places 🙏✴️ from MJK Wales. great to see 🎸 Nils Lofgren in this video too 🙏✴️
Fabulous interpretation by Springsteen.
Best remake ever!!!
William Argyle purple heart...68-69 loving memory!
More relevant today than when I first heard it. You are a class act Mr Springsteen.
Absolutely awesome fantastic great unique amazing fabulous fantastic talent beautiful voice
Outstanding job on the remake Bruce
Springsteen adds more anguish and anger to it
I'm not a Springsteen fan but he brings it. I admire him as a person and activist, he's a good man. Lol, just found out he was born at the same hospital as my father. Small world :-)
Amin to that... Like telling a story with full scale madness!
Well actually, he didn't change any tempo and emotions to the song.
Edwin starr. Sang this in protest to the war that was going during his lifetime .
He doesn’t even know all the words
When is it ever going to end?
It isn't. Mankind is not made that way. 😢 Love to all ❤
