I'm both dying to know how they do that but also glad that the secret for these performances aren't revealed. It makes them so much more entertaining to watch
Eazy. They wear a face gaiter under their headgear. The masks are attached with velcro onto their face gaiter, and strings are threaded under the coat. You can peel a mask off by tugging on the string near their waist. Because the whole thing is choreographed, some masks’ strings are attached at the neck for fast changing , so they can change their mask by twisting their neck. The trick with the fan biting is to give you the illusion that the masks are not pulled away (they are). That one is usually the last mask before they change back to their actual face. So they cut a slit around the mouth and have the seam covers with velcro. You might ask, “if their masks are literally stacked one on top of another, and the masks are pulled away into their dress, how can the performer put a new mask on after all the masks has been pulled off?” Easy. The last mask is curled up near the forehead like a rolled up mat, and the string has a knot or some kind of stopper on it, so it can be pulled in two stages. 1st to unravel it from the headgear and pull it on your face, and the 2nd stage is to pull it off like any other masks. The knot is there to prevent over travel of the string
