It is as though John Newton wrote Amazing Grace for the Bagpipes. Together they are perfect. They touch the heart. For it is by Grace we are saved through faith and that is not of ourselves but is a gift of God.
Beautifull tune indeed, but almost no one knows about the sad background of it. The lyrics of this song were written by a british captian of a ship that brought slaves from africa to america. In a big storm on the ocean when the ship was about to sink into the sea he feared for his life and began to pray and overthink what he was doing with this men on his ship which were sent to slavery. The result was this poem. His name was John Newton and he convinced William Wilberforce, a member of British Parliment to fight for the abolishment of slave trading.
