In a big storm on the ocean when the ship was about to sink into the sea he feared for his life and began to pray and overthink what he was doing with this men on his ship which were sent to slavery. The result was this poem. His name was John Newton and he convinced William Wilberforce, a member of British Parliment to fight for the abolishment of slave trading.
