Not I. Actually I've noticed male guinea pigs do that far more commonly then female guinea pigs. I have 4 female piggies and none of them eat their own poo 💩.
@@Kitty-Marks they eat their poop if it has extra minerals in it that hasn’t been digested this is because if they don’t have all the minerals they need they could get sick so they need to make sure they get it all in their bodies! At least I think that’s what I heard lol
@@shortstackrblx1417 so my female guinea pigs don't do this because they are getting all the vitamins they need then? I do have them all on a high veggie diet. Lettuce in the morning, cucumbers for lunch, small bell peppers and lettuce for dinner and a leaf if lettuce at bed time.
@@Kitty-Marks I don’t think it’s because of that I think just because they know that vitamins are in their poop so they eat it just to make sure that they’re digesting everything I think your pigs are fine it’s just something guinea pigs do I’m not 100% sure though
I have 4 female guinea pigs. 3 of them eat Timothy hay about 80% of their diet, but 1 of my piggies eats hay only about 30% of her diet. She just refuses to eat the hay but she eats allot of veggies. She also rarely eats her pellets. She's almost 7 years old and has done this for the least 4 years. I watch her closest of all because she can't be housed with the other piggies. She's extremely aggressive to other piggies. But she isn't lonely because she practically lives in my shirt or under my blanket on my chest or tummy. She's extremely intelligent and tells me when she has to go potty. She has two cages, one next to my recliner and one attached to my bed. She usually sleeps with me and because of my disability I can't roll in my sleep. She knows how to wake me up to tell me to put her into her cage when and if she wants to. Daisy (her name) has developed multiple sounds and body language to communicate to me what she needs, even as specific as to what type of veggie she wants. I know this sounds ridiculous and unbelievable but it's completely true. Daisy isn't a guinea pig, she's a human trapped in the body of a guinea pig.😊 She's my best friend, my baby and my happy place. Sadly though she's extremely old for a guinea pig and the anxiety of knowing her time is nearly over is beyond overwhelming with sadness and anxiety but I cherish every day with her. Side Note:. I thought guinea pigs were nearsighted and couldn't see very far but Daisy watches tv and actually reacts to what she's watching. At night she sits on my shoulder, lays against my cheek and watches movies with me. She hates horror or anything scary because she will dive under the covers and hide. It isn't because of scary sounds or music because at night I watch movies with earbuds in, because of this she can't hear what's going on. She prefers bright colors like cartoons and things a child would like. This is based on her reactions when I turn different movies on. Like recently we watched a Disney movie about souls and she was really engaged in it. I know she isn't just reacting to colors and shapes because once I was watching an action movie where one guy started attacking another and she started looking between it and me like she was concerned. When I calmly told her that he was a bad guy she laid back down. I know some people won't believe me but everything I said is completely true, I swear by it. I love your channel and everything you do for these amazing, sweet and wonderous creatures Scotty. 🤗❤️🤗
UK viewers may like to know that Simon Maddock, a vet in a Northampton vet centre called "The Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic" has made guinea pig teeth issues his speciality. He sees piggies from literally all over the UK. Without him our sanctuary for dental guinea pigs could not exist. He is very experienced seeing piggies pretty much all day every day.
He is fantastic, he looked after my Shaggy when one vet failed him, but sadly after 3 weeks with Simon's help Shaggy still past away. But Simon tried his best. I only take my guinea pigs to him now
That's really good to know - thanks Catherine. It would be a bit of a trip from Surrey, but worth it. I think I have found d a good vet eventually, but until something serious crops up I won't know. So brilliant to have a go-to-vet. Have you asked Scott to put Simon Maddock on his vet list? x

I buy 50 pds of Hay from Small Pet Select. Great quality hay. They absolutely love it. Oxbow MVI and Supportive Joint treats. Italian Parsley is they’re absolute fave, carrots, small bell peppers and lettuce, cilantro. Do my shopping every 3 days at the 99cent store. Scott how about a video of you shopping of veggies for the little wheekers. 😘 smooches to all the little wheekers!!!!
I sit and watch my boys eating their veg every evening. It’s enjoyable, but I also see how they eat (and mediate to make sure no one is stealing food 🤣). I love watching them munch on hay. Fluffed up piles of soft meadow hay are great, no hay pokes and they really enjoy playing in hay. It’s enrichment as well as food for them ❤️ They basically eat hay all day long, so having it under their mouths/very nearby at all times, where ever they are in the cage, really helps them eat enough. It’s also technically a “myth” that it’s 80%, because it should be unlimited, a constant large supply. Rather than limited to “80%” so to speak. I understand why they use the numbers though, it shows how they need mostly hay in their diet. They’re grazers. Grazing in a field, but a hay field ahah.
A brilliant educational video. I recently learned that they can eat blackberry leaves, so it's now on my foraging list of fresh foods. So I pinch the new growth fresh sprig of three four leaves from the higher up brambles, these don't have any developed thorns, so I don't get pricked fingers. Mine love these so I've introduced them slowly. Luckily there are wild brambles nearly everywhere here in the UK.
My girls love the snack shack as a hay rack. Carson is the only weirdo who tries to run through it even when it’s stuffed, so he does better with just a small pile. 😂
Another comprehensive and informative video from Scott. I’m fortunate that I don’t have a hay allergy but I’ll occasionally get a face full of hay dust that leaves me coughing for a while. I get Small Pet Select’s 2nd cut Timothy hay on a subscription and my girls love it. Their favorite veg-treats are dandelion greens and corn husks. 😀🐾
We like meadow hay here. Timothy seems to make me sniffly. Its interesting that they prefer to drink in the evening. I only hear the water bottle being used in the evening with my three.
Fruit is high in sugar, but my piggies like the non-sugar scraps that I would otherwise throw away. I give them banana peels, watermelon rinds, strawberry leaf tops, and cherry stems.
