This plane has been my favorite since the day I first saw it as a teenager... One day, one day I will have a gorgeous polished aluminum beauty with blue stripes
I flew one several years ago, this one was very light and balanced on the flight controls and the 6-cyl Continental engine was smooth as glass! Great flying airplane if a little short-coupled and sporty on the ground!!!
There is a trim wheel behind the pilots head. It's used to lessen the forces necessary on the elevator control. This original Swift isn't very fast by today's standards, but it was back in the 40s. This one cruises at 135 miles per hour.
My Dad was a pilot back in the late 1940s and early 50's. Piloted some of the classic 'flivvers' of the day- T-Craft, Cubs, Champs... He once told me the Tempco Swift was the fastest plane he ever flew. Relating to this video, what was that the pilot kept cranking overhead? That wasn't the flap control was it?

That is the trim.
@@marcuswray1797 I shoulda figured that one out for myself! Thanks for the reply!
my dad used to have one. Had he kept it another year or so, I could have been a partner in it.
Just like driving a car, except where you have to reach back and slap those screaming kids in the back seat (run the trim).
What was he reaching for behind his head?
Pitch trim.
Haha. So true!
