What happens when you have a rough outline of a plot and 3$ to make it. Was a waste.. either have a good plot or put some more money behind it.... it got neither
I expect ‘Werewolf Women Of The SS’ is more likely to become a real movie because the main “joke” of ‘Don’t’ (that when they brought British horror movies to America they would hide that they were British) doesn’t really work outside of the context of a trailer, but I would love to see what kind of movie they make with the shots they put in that trailer.
What I love the most about the Carver is how much effort he puts into his revenge. Your average slasher would just set up maybe a booby trap and call it a day, but this guy kidnapped people, cooked them alive, and had an elaborate cannibal feast planned all without the aid of supernatural powers. You gotta admire craftsmanship.
I like how the killer is silent all throughout the movie similar to Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees, then takes the Ghostface route with the voice changer near the final third of the movie.
Probably by time third act comes around they have idea who killer might be. It's kind of interesting to keep the killer silent but then switch it around to protray the killer being nervous of getting caught and wanting to be intimating
@evandaymon8303 Which would explain why everyone who took up the Ghostface moniker use a voice changer. To disguise who they are and sound intimidating.
I do wish they had kept the 70's/80's grainy aesthetic, but I understand why they modernized it after the cold reception to Grindhouse. I will say that it is my favorite Eli Roth movie.
My favorite scene in this was the waitress trying to use her cellphone to call for help, but can't unlock it cause the facial recognition isn't working cause her one cheek has been ripped off! 🤣
I just watched this and wow its crazy roth made a good flick and it wasn't filled to the brim with douce bag characters. Instead it just had one that got what was coming and it felt gratifying to see. Also the kills in general were fucking brutal and I was surprised the killer didn't just start killing people that hand noting to do with what triggered the killers creation. I think only one died who wasn't involved but that seemed more like an accident. I do look forward to the sequel and I hope its more like this one. Finally thanksgiving has its own official horror movie.
A kid was in love with a turkey his dad killed...I'd totally see that;) I liked the trailer when I checked it out too, but I WISH the movie was filmed to LOOK like it, set in the 80s... And awesome Thanksgiving comedy promo:):)
When all other movies are "panderin' in Mandarin" whether they want to or not, Roth gets to make a movie that means nothing to anyone outside of the US. Sure.
I bet Eli Roth took a lot of influence from “Scream” and “Kevin Williamson”…. I’m surprised the main character isn’t named Sydney is so close, but in a good enjoyable way
I remember seeing this movie and going "boy, these deaths are like, extra gruesomely violent" and then it got to the end credits and it said "directed by Eli Roth" and I went "Oh, well that explains it"
Wow 1 year old and 1 day later Brad does a full review of this I rewatched it yesterday to celebrate its 1 year milestone Really anxious if sequels will ever come I found out from now playing podcast the only other good Thanksgiving slasher is a 1987 film called Blood Rage The stepmother getting basted…clearly someone has a foot fetish thanks to Quentin Tarentino This same actress was also in another Thanksgiving movie on Freeform, a romantic comedy called Turkey Drop A few things I don’t buy though: Gina Gershon is in her 60s Is her character capable of bringing pregnant? I love how Eli Roth always mixes in little moments of black humor into his horror movies. I particularly liked the scene where the woman was trying to open her phone after her face and fingers had been torn off.
Different actors playing the killer so this is like Cruising, accept no one in the interrogation scene gets punched by large Black man wearing a cowboy hat and jockstrap
Being from Rhode Island, there was a joke about a Massachusetts town I did not get, but my Mass friends were cracking up (at the beginning of the party)
As a resident of Plymouth, and former retail . . . yeah this movie was fun as hell! Only quip is that they had ZERO footage of the real Plymouth, MA in it. Like no B-roll or anything. Shame but still - fun flick!
I agree with your assessment. I didn't expect to enjoy this, but it was a fun throwback to the slashers of the 80's and, really, the only Eli Roth movie I liked.
I've been waiting for this movie to come out! The fake trailer was one of Eli Roth's better projects. I haven't watched it yet, but I've been having a lot of high hopes for the movie and knew that once it came out, we would finally have the true definitive Thanksgiving horror slasher and not be stuck with Thankskilling.
Just watched this last night on Netflix. Easily one of Eli Roth's best movies imo, or at least better than this year's "Borderlands". Kind of makes you wonder how Roth went from this, a fun modern slasher film that also served as a love letter to that genre, to a video game adaptation that looked promising trailers only to have audiences walk out in droves.
Thanksgiving 2: Hospital Thanksgiving 3: The one without John Carver Thanksgiving 4: The Return of John Carver Thanksgiving 5: The Revenge of John Carver Thanksgiving 6: The Curse of John Carver T20: Thanksgiving 20 years later Thanksgiving Resurrection The remake The sequel to the remake The legacy sequel trilogy that ignores everything but the original.
6:43 And the next President might pardon everyone involved. 7:56 Explains the dialogue, like forcing in the word "cringe". 9:02 And they're too loose already IRL! 11:33 Pretty sure we have laws in place about that sort of thing. 13:55 If he's not the killer, I wouldn't mind if that guy died. 15:55 3 guesses who he voted for. DIalogue and commentary was on-the-nose here, so it did come off as self aware. And Holy shit, the only black guy survived to the end of a slasher? Consider my expectations subverted!
A fantastic Snob review-happy birthday to me! This looks very promising, although the Carver's line to Sarah still can't top Terry O'Quinn's horrifying "You've been a very bad girl......." in the Stepfather.
I hope the snob checks out this movie that fame out in 2020 called the last thanksgiving its super underrated and really good in a low budget b-movie way also Linnea Quigley is in there
Really liked this movie, I recently watched it a few months ago. It's up there with Terrifier and the Hatchet movies for me. Like it's just nice to see new ideas and characters instead of more seuels and remakes.
If I could I would finance Rob Zombie to make Werewolf Women of the SS. Overall I enjoyed the movie but it's going to take a bit to remember the characters names. The one weird thing was there was a promo trailer that almost made it seem like the ghost of John Carver was going to be the killer. As a slasher it's good and I hope Thanksgiving 2 is more creative and twisted.
Do people really wait until after dark to eat Thanksgiving Dinner? It's a Thursday, lots of people have to work the next day and lots of people have to travel to dinner
Thanksgiving being so good affected my feelings toward Founders Day. Felt it a pale imitation even though given the time frame they had to be in production around the same time
I feel this is a film where you kinda rooting for the killer, he’s not innocent nor stable but you understand why there doing this & to whom there doing it to.
When I saw the trailer for this movie, I was at first fooled into thinking it was a wholesome holiday movie, but no, it was just a gory slasher. At the same time, I also saw the trailer for Silent Night which, again, gave the false impression that it was a wholesome holiday movie. Nope, bloody action movie. It's disturbing how they keep making these gory films set on holidays that are meant to be peaceful times of year. Like, why do they keep making Thanksgiving horror movies, or Christmas horror movies? That's what Halloween is for! They just have to make a horror movie for every holiday. What's next, Martin Luther King Jr Day? When Dr. King is resurrected as a murderous zombie who goes out and kills all the racists?
Not first time for Christmas one. They made a lot of Christmas theme horrors like silent night deadly night and one where santa claus is actually evil and played by goldberg. Plus people get bit tired of usual holiday stuff so they like mix it up.
@@evandaymon8303 At this rate, it's Christmas horror movies that people should be tired off. Shitty Black Christmas remakes, killer Santas, it's getting old, much like Thanksgiving horror movies with killer turkeys.
Maybe the sequel is just going to be the fictitious 'original' lost 1980 film. Obviously it won't, but it would be fun. Mainstream audiences wouldn't get it, though. And Duke's Mayo to baste the Turkey, not Miracle Whip! 😂😂
The opening with black Friday is a better black Friday movie than the actual Black Friday movie and that has Bruce Campbell in it
What happens when you have a rough outline of a plot and 3$ to make it. Was a waste.. either have a good plot or put some more money behind it.... it got neither
Can someone PLEASE just give Edgar Wright and Rob Zombie the money and resources they need to give us "Don't" and "Werewolf Women of the SS"!?
Honestly, "Don't" sounds like a British version of Nope.
Just give me Nic Cage as Fu Manchu.
I would like to see Don't and Werewolf Women of the SS as full theatrical feature.
^THIS
I completely agree. Been far too few Werewolf Nazi Female exploitation films.
@@GlobalsoftPirka Sadly, looks like QT is done making movies. Of course a lot of people "Retire" and then come back for more, so heck, who knows...
I'm amazed that Eli Roth had enough restraint to not do the original trampoline death from the Grindhouse trailer.
I needed that! The movie would be better for it. Still a fun movie tho.
thanks, now i know not to watch it
That trampoline scene wasn’t originally from the fake trailer. It was actually ripping off a scene from Cutting Class.
He probably wouldn't have been able to get that past the MPA.
I feel he felt restrained
The fake trailer was way more fun and gratuitous
Expected this one to be more visceral much like The Substance
What I love the most about the Carver is how much effort he puts into his revenge. Your average slasher would just set up maybe a booby trap and call it a day, but this guy kidnapped people, cooked them alive, and had an elaborate cannibal feast planned all without the aid of supernatural powers. You gotta admire craftsmanship.
The only Grindhouse fake trailers left to be made into actual movies are Rob Zombie's Werewolf Women of the SS and Edgar Wright's Don't.
I'm still waiting for the day that those film's get made. Hopefully.
honestly if you wanna watch "Don't" should just watch Waxwork 2, they already kind of spoofed that kind of movie in it.
@@kyrozudesoya1829 I've never heard of that movie. I'll have to check it out.
The riot at the store is the most stereotypical Mass thing I’ve seen since the Departed, and I loved it.
I like how the killer is silent all throughout the movie similar to Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees, then takes the Ghostface route with the voice changer near the final third of the movie.

I loved how at the party they were listening to sorcerer from stunt rock
Sticking with Blood Rage for my annual Turkey Day slasher, but I'm impressed Roth actually got this one right. His track record...ugh.
I hope your new baby is well Brad! My boy is growing so BIG. Been watching your channel for years. I really liked this movie!
I do wish they had kept the 70's/80's grainy aesthetic, but I understand why they modernized it after the cold reception to Grindhouse. I will say that it is my favorite Eli Roth movie.

Thanksgiving and Hobo with a Shotgun make a wonderful double feature, and not just because of the Grindhouse connection. Love them both!
We'll probably never get the movie, but Rob Zombie did write a song called "Werewolf Women Of The SS' on the Hellbilly Deluxe 2 album.
just as i was beginning to get over my nightmares from Fun in Balloonland 3 weeks ago
I knew you would do this review. Also, it is one of my Eli Roth favorite films.
I never go out on Black Friday. I always just shop early or online.
Going to be reading Solomon Kane this Thanksgiving.
Okay that final line from the blunderbuss guy made it worth it.
Brad in every thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I went to this movie in theatres since a friend of mine got to be an extra, and had a blast. I watched it again this Halloween lol
The grindhouse trailer im like this looks great and needs to be made into a movie
I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would, saw it twice in the theater.

Well this is the best unexpected thanksgiving present ever especially because I watched it a few days ago
When all other movies are "panderin' in Mandarin" whether they want to or not, Roth gets to make a movie that means nothing to anyone outside of the US.
Sure.
It has been zero days since a South Park 64 reference.
I bet Eli Roth took a lot of influence from “Scream” and “Kevin Williamson”…. I’m surprised the main character isn’t named Sydney is so close, but in a good enjoyable way
One of only two films by Eli Roth I've seen, the other one being The House With a Clock In It's Wall.
Insane he did that, my little boy LOVES that movie.
...Was not expecting a South Park 64 appearance.
I actually bought this last year for this year's thanksgiving
I remember seeing this movie and going "boy, these deaths are like, extra gruesomely violent" and then it got to the end credits and it said "directed by Eli Roth" and I went "Oh, well that explains it"
Part 2 could be called
Thanksgiving Leftovers
But I was told there would be no leftovers.
@HelloGrimm True true........
Thanksgiving: Reheated
@GlobalsoftPirka oh that's a good one!
One of the coolest slashers 😊😊😊
I'm usually not the biggest Eli Roth fan but this was a cool movie.
Loved the callback to Fun in Balloon Land. 😂
"I saw someone just standing in line...that means the violence didn't happen!" Lines like this are precisely why I subscribed. 😂
I’m actually from about that area of the south shore.
And all I gotta say is…FUCK HANOVER!!!😂
The Grandma in this movie was played by Lynne Griffin, who in the original Black Christmas as the coed/ first victim.
My wife's from Methuen so the whole "Go back to Methuen you fucking dorks!" sits in a special place in my heart.
After Borderlands It's good to see this Eli Roth movie 😅
I blame the script change
Wow 1 year old and 1 day later Brad does a full review of this
I rewatched it yesterday to celebrate its 1 year milestone
Really anxious if sequels will ever come
I found out from now playing podcast the only other good Thanksgiving slasher is a 1987 film called Blood Rage
The stepmother getting basted…clearly someone has a foot fetish thanks to Quentin Tarentino
This same actress was also in another Thanksgiving movie on Freeform, a romantic comedy called Turkey Drop
A few things I don’t buy though:
Gina Gershon is in her 60s
Is her character capable of bringing pregnant?
Are public trash containers really that sharp to slice someone in half? Mine are plastic and it would take a lot of force to do that
Movie was a ton of fun though I do have to question how he knocked out the two friends with a Single rag
I can’t believe this is how I found out Werewolf Women of the SS wasn’t a real movie.
"... crazed Dr. Forrester..."
Holy shit! I can't un-see it now!
I was very surprised at this film from Roth.
Not a huge fan of Eli Roth but I may have to see this one; it looks pretty good. Thanks Snob!
9:36 - Is that the dude who played Arkin in The Collector?
Unusually good movie, that one.
"Co writer/stuntman" is the new "model/actor"😊
Have you hit Caroushell 1-3 or Killing Tree?
Not gonna lie... But I think that I agree with what The Cinema Snob was talking about for "Thanksgiving" (2023)
Werewolf Women would singlehandedly be better than anything Rob Zombie has done since 2006
I love how Eli Roth always mixes in little moments of black humor into his horror movies. I particularly liked the scene where the woman was trying to open her phone after her face and fingers had been torn off.
I still can't help singing backing vocals on the intro song as my mind refuses to accept that the word "video" isn't repeated!
Really enjoyed the movie. Cool review.
17:17 - Reminds of the actual Fun in Balloon Land when Snob was like, during this scene, "stop masturbating to the balloons!"
Different actors playing the killer so this is like Cruising, accept no one in the interrogation scene gets punched by large Black man wearing a cowboy hat and jockstrap
