The title song N.O is a Trap Music, which is a big part of the American Hip-hop scene at the moment. The title 'N.O' stands for the no of the chorus 'Everybody say NO' and at the same time a short word for 'NO offense'. It's not talking about just meaningless rebellion, but it is a message they want to throw in to the society.

What happened is this style of rap song was out of fashion at the time. It was popular several years before (mainly by groups like Epik High (who was a big influence for RM) and early Big Bang - but the kpop audience in Korea was changing - Topp Dogg also suffered from the change in taste. Also Big Hit was a small company so there wasn't as much promotion back then.

So many people have said they don't like N.O. ... but its one of my favorite songs. I found this song so relatable, and inspiring, in my opinion. I think people should realize that BTS tries to teach something in all their songs, and this song has a very strong reminder: be true to yourself, don't let others live through you, or determine what you do.

I swear despite their topic about adults making their children study too hard even if they don't want to, I'm honestly listening to their music for help on my essays. Choose a hero, BTS cause they are strong enough to put the feelings of a lot pressured kids into lyrics and show that there are other choices. Such as sticking up for yourself.

This is actually a tribute to the growing number of young people committing suicide due to extreme pressure from parents, elders and their conservative society to be number one. It was also entitled N.O which stands for NO offense - they meant no harm, they just want to express their thoughts and relay them through this song.
This song was what pulled me to BTS 👏🏻
"to the SKY" also means committing suicide because many people also commit suicide when they get into the SKY
he's actually talking about the three top universities in Korea and the pressure that is put on students to succeed in order to get into the universities
not to mention the fact that a lot of students end up committing suicide because they don't do good on your exams and that hinders them from getting into those three schools which they feel are the only ones worthy enough to get into. and so they don't get into those universities they feel like they've failed.

*This song aside from being such a bop, its has a really important message specially to korean students, theres this really messed up system in korea that teachers and parents push to the students that you are a nobody if you aint number one, they think if you arent at the top then you cant get in a high class university and get a good job, so basically they believe your future is going to be shit, so many students overwork themselves and get frustrated if they fail to the point of snapping and very sadly ending their lives, thats why korea is the second country with the highest suicide rate... the boys in the song are encouraging korean youth to say "NO" to this system, to not be trapped in someone else dream but achieve what actually makes you happy*

Most of the members were toppers in studying. Yet they still understood the misery of school, maybe studying was hard for them, maybe it wasn’t. Irregardless, they still stood for what every student is going through, pressure to be perfect and to be number 1. Many people doesn’t take concern for things that they don’t have anything to do with; e.g. the rich doesn’t care about the rising economy because they can afford it, The brainiacs doesn’t care about the vast syllabus because they can achieve it.
Bts, even though they were best at what they did, stood up for the middle men, people who can’t stand up for themselves or speak out their thoughts without judgement.
And that’s why they got so much hate, before debut, after debut and even now. They’re true in what they believe in, they speak out for what’s wrong, and they are very good at what they do. If they are not the biggest threat, I don’t know what is. As fans, I think we underestimate their talent and their efficiency, we love them so we see no threat; the same cannot be said for the antis, they despise them because they cannot bring the boys down, not with their words or their actions; bts has one thing that nothing can take away from them, talent. That’s why some people hate bts a lot, because they are intimidating.
But it’s also the same why they have the biggest, most dedicated and diverse fandom in the world; and why they’re the biggest group in the world. It’s not rocket science.

Wow I'm in tears.. I wish someone understood the anxiety and stress students feel at school. My parents don't even bother. My mom is always 'It's because you're just so lazy.' The fact that we're not no.1 not because we're lazy, but because we're trying our best and maybe that's all we have, I wish people understood. I feel that in today's society what we know, and what talents we have don't matter. It's all about showing the world a part of ourselves even we don't know. And getting judged about it. @@Hi-xn2su I’ve seen so many people saying how they were very unsuccessful during this N.O era but I just learned that they went on a global tour during this era that even included shows in the USA. And that two of the shows sold out in two minutes!!! So now I’m confused that if they went on a tour that didn’t just stop in Korea and people actually came then how come this era was a ‘failure,’ how were they struggling financially, about to disband, and how were they not atleast a little famous. Im very confused cuz I’m a new army. Please help me on this 💜

It's an amazing song with a great message! Why are we forced to study so much. We wake up at 6am then go to school till 5pm. When we're home we have to study till we have to sleep. Do we live to be study machines and study for more then 20 years, I want to discover and do the things I like, but if I don't I won't get a good job. This song can relate to so many people and I love BTS for having this song!
That was me last November stressing about graduating high school, because I wasn't sure if I wanted to study psychology at some "profound" university and now I'm a makeup student interested in Special FX and film.
In the end it's all up to you, you should never let anyone get in that way of thinking.

The lyrics always hit me so deep. My family always push me to be first and I thought it was normal how stressed I was but soon I found I was not OK. this song is the perfect example of why BTS are going to go so far. Because they show they are real people. The fans love them because they are understandable and touch us each in a unique way. It is 2017 and they have won the BBMAS and they 100% deserved it. They followed their dreams and whilst I am ashamed to say I am too afraid to break out now, one day, I hope to use them as a role model to be a happier person.
