I’ve been thru Alamogordo a few times. The first time I came in from the SW and my first thought was that I felt bad for the airmen and families. I’ve been both active duty AF and dependent spouse and lived on and off base and it didn’t look good. Then I got onto the main drag and stopped at a few places in town. I discovered it was really nice. Just about anything you could need and everybody I had contact with at businesses were great. A while later I came back through the same way (CA to IL) and stopped at one of the same places and was again treated well. Thumbs up!

the nice part of the space museum is the rocket thrust shaker machine. it gives you a feeling of standing near one of 3 different types of rockets., decent home owners insurance if it's worth the cost , might aleiviate some feelings about leaving the cabin alone for long stretches of time, but you'd still have to have the mail shut off, someone to mow the grass etc. But considering you really don't own anything of extremely high value , even if the cabin did get broken into just file a claim , get made whole again. But it might not be worth the money for the peace of mind.

Rusty...Have you given up on the cabin? What if the water situation gets resolved next week?
If it turns out that it's too expensive I like your idea of staying in Lano and traveling around. You will have have a home base and someone to watch it. Plus you can keep the land as an investment. I'm on your side whatever you decide to do. You definitely have a gypsy spirit.

Edit; OOPS, I might have been wrong on that mountain but its still the Lincoln forest. And I think that mountain called Sierra Blanca is 12,500 which I believe is the highest in the area. I was waiting to watch another driving video to take my mind off our very very hot day here in central Texas. Enjoy the beautiful cool mountains and I suggest you probably stay in NM for another month at least, it is freaking hot here!

Another approach might be - build it now while you have the money (if you get water) because - 1) the cabin in that location should be a good investment in the event you decide to sell later - 2) you are likely to need the cabin type of living arrangement at some point in the future - 3) the cost for building the cabin will just go up as time passes by 4) you could likely pay someone locally a small fee to watch after your property when you travel 5) not likely but the city might change the rules preventing you from building the cabin in the future - 6) we would enjoy watching the property development and cabin build - 7) and did I mention you can always sell the cabin in the future - 8) it would also be good for you to get to know some folks that live near your cabin so as you get older they could help keep an eye on you - 9) for now you can travel most of the time and still have the cabin all set up for your living just in case you need it

Sorry to b off topic. I have a few questions about your e-bike, how do you pack it up for travel does it fold smaller. How long does the charge last, will it go up steep hills? Can you alternate between peddling and being motorised? Appreciate your input, I'm a senior & I loved riding a bike but it got where I could get wornout before I was back home. Lol
