An NRI can hold PPF account till maturity, But you can't if you renounce Indian citizenship. 3. Yes, You are right. Now we can close account after 5 years for medical and educational purpose. You can open two PPF accounts. One for you and one for your son. But till your son gets major from minor means he completes his age 18 years you can credit only 1.5 lacs. After your son gets 18 years old you have to inform the bank or post office and give birth day proof and convert his account under major account holders. Then you can create 1.5 lacs in both accounts. However, please open the PPF account of your son now and don't wait for time. 👍

Yes . PPF account is created under government scheme and neither Bank nor the post office has any control on account. They are acting as an agent. So rest assured and open the PPF account as early as possible. 👍
