I can't act like I'm not distraught about Craig leaving. I found you guys when I was a sophomore(or junior) in high school, and now I'm 25. You both have forever changed how I view movies. But whatever you guys do next, I wish you nothing but success. Thank you Matt and Craig, may your futures shine as bright as the sun!
This is a perfectly put summary of my time watching BlameSociety which started here with WTTB. I can't see wait to see what Matt's got coming up next but Craig's presence on the Old Leather Couch will certainly be missed. We will miss him as much as he hates Shia LeBouf and loves Thelma Ritter 😂😢
I’ve been a blame society fan since I was 11-12. Got into wttb as a teenager, and I often come back to beer and board games and the old leather couch for comfort. I’m 23 now. Sad to see Craig go, but I wish him all the best.
I think my favorite thing about Craig is that even when he's making fun of a movie, it doesn't come off as mean. You can tell that he wants the movie to be good, and is willing to give credit to a bad movie that manages to do something well. I hope whoever is his replacement likewise is willing to look for the positives.
As many viewers have also said, I am in the category of former young teens-now mid 20s who grew up watching Welcome to the Basement. You guys have been significantly formative in my appreciation of movies as an art form, and have given me many great recommendations over the years through the episodes. You talked about The Wages of Fear for like 1 minutes on Scene It and now I get basically every movie-loving friend of mine to watch it and have seen it 4 times myself. The casual but erudite approach you two have has helped me develop a language for discussing film with my friends and family. Of course the show is not ending, but Craig's absence is going to be keenly felt, no matter who Matt gets on the couch in the coming episodes. Gonna miss him a lot. Big shoes to fill!
There's no way this show will ever be the same without Craig. Matt and Craig are like the Dynamic Duo of cinema, and I have so enjoyed the discussions, opinions, and jokes throughout all these years.
This will be the first episode of Welcome to the Basement I've never wanted to come. When I subbed in 2008 I was 14 and Craig was, to me, merely the vampiric janitor in Chad Vader and eventually noted wine-drinking guest on B&B. Fast forward 200+ episodes of Welcome to the Basement and I've become 29 while Craig has endeared himself to any basement dweller as shrewd in his movie assessments and one of the funniest people around. I wish you and your family great happiness and many movie nights. Matt, I hope you continue to find joy in the show as it goes through its toughest period yet; your efforts are herculean, and your content remains fresh. I know that I'll continue to enjoy the basement as long as I am welcomed into it!
So long Craig. It's been great learning more about film history with the both of you. I look forward to whatever this show devolves into with our new co-host Baby Cookie
It's been an incredible ride with this dynamic duo. Been watching since Chad Vader and Blamesociety has been a fantastic blessing for me and, I can say safety, for all of us regular viewers. I'm happy the show is continuing and can't wait to see the next cohost. We'll see you in September, Craig! Have fun with the family!
I cried seeing that handshake. You'll be missed Craig. Hopefully in the future you'll be able to come back regularly but I wish you all the best in your future endeavors! I'm sad at what is happening, but excited for the future!
I’m really sad about this being Craig’s last episode. I’m also saddened about Tona… idk the details but it hurts knowing that the original lineup will never be all together ever again. 😢 best of luck to you Matt and future guests!
Craig, you never got old. Always handsome, educated and fastest joke on the draw. Thank you for your dedication, all this time and being a friend to rage of Sloan Matt in the early days. You are a talented entertainer, the heart of the show for me, and I wish you all the happiness you deserve!
11 and a half years. I've been here since the beginning. I found the channel around the Monopoly episode of B&BG's. I'm not a big movie fan. I don't know why. I guess it's hard for one to hold my interest. But i love seeing people talk about the things they love. So I've never really been able to share interest in movies with you guys, but I've always been here to share in your joy of movies. No Matter how life has changed over the last 11 years, you two have always been there for me every week. Thank you both. You'll be missed Craig. And Matt, times seem rough for you right now. I just want you to know how much you're appreciated for continuing to entertain and delight so many people! I will continue to watch as long as you make these. Thank you both so much❤
I thought the last farewell with Craig will be something that will leave me unfulfilled, unhappy, angry even. That “thanks” said a thousand words. The story is complete. It was a great journey Craig, thank you for being our guide.
From the creepy guy with the mop in Chad Vader to the wine-drinking board game player to the distinguished, smiling cinephile. It's been a beautiful ride Craig! Best of luck with your endeavors. Like many others, I'll miss you!
I waited over a week to watch this, but I’m glad I finally bit the bullet, this is a good episode. This was the perfect movie because now we’re all that kid watching Craig ride off into the distance. Even though he’s in the next unboxing. And coming back for another episode. We’re movie fans, we’re allowed to be dramatic, ok.
Goodbye, Craig. Really enjoyed the show - I may not always agree with your takes on every film but I have always enjoyed every episode and look forward to ever new upload. Good luck on your future endeavors!
Thank you Craig its been an amazing ride. You really changed my life with the way you watch and talk about movies. I'll never look at them the same way again. You're like the teacher I wish I had years ago. Now I have a whole new world to explore and I can't wait to get started. You will be greatly missed, the old leather couch won't be the same without you. Maybe we will run into each other one day and we can talk movies over a bottle of wine. Best of luck to you and your family in the future. Take care bud thumb kiss 👍
Goodbye Craig! It was a fun ride and you were a huge part of the fun. Thank you for so many amazing episodes over the years! Wish you and your family all the best for the future!
I've loved this show since I found it nearly a decade ago and will continue to for hopefully a decade (and beyond) more. You'll be missed, Craig, but best of luck to you moving forward!
My boyfriend is a cinephile and this is something we found together and really enjoyed and helped me gain a real appreciation of movies. Craig, I cannot imagine this show without you. You will be missed and I look forward to that September episode when you drop by that old leather couch.
Fitzcarraldo was how I found y'all, and I've been lucky to spend so much time in the Basement since then. Much gratitude to you, Craig (and hey, September!), but also thanks to everyone else on the show too. I know this isn't purely an end, but the changeover feels so intimidating. Glad we're going through it together, though.
🎶“Totoro, to-toro, giving me a toothpick” 🎶 Nice shirt, Craig. My daughter and I are surely going to miss you. We 100% won’t be mad if you change your mind and come back. Matt, we love you and truly hope all is well with you. I know you must be going through a lot. Love you, man
Naturally very sad about Craig leaving us, but the show is very strong, and I look forward to seeing what the new iteration shall be. See you later, Craig.
This was a tough episode to watch. I enjoyed the episode but it brings a great sadness too. Im sure the show will continue to bring me joy even as things change.
This is a very solid send off episode. I’ve been rewatching the earliest WttB episodes, and every episode is a joy. Well done, everybody, and I’m excited to see the continuation of this show and happy for Craig to feel ready to depart. See you in September, Craig!
Thank you, Craig, for all the years of enjoyment. Also, for all the intellectual and emotional stimulation. You will be missed. Thank you too, Matt and Tona for continuing the show. It is something special.
I am a bit late it seems. I was 20 when you guys started this show. Life happened and I haven't watched in a couple years. And now I come back to hear that Craig is leaving? It's clear this show will never be the same. You two were an iconic duo. The Siskel and Ebert of my life. Thanks to you I have seen so many new movies. I've gotten a whole new appreciation for the art. I watched you on repeat during times in my life where I didn't feel well. Where depression was kicking my butt. My english improved thanks to you too. I watched The Wicker Man because of you. That movie played a bigger role in my life later on because I got to bond over it with my boyfriend. So in a way you two made a huge difference in my life. Thank you for your wonderful insight and never being afraid to voice your opinions.
Sucks to see Craig go. He’s my favorite of this channel. I love the knowledge he brought to this show. It really showed that he loves movies and taking about them. Been watching you guys for a long, long time but it seems like it’s finally coming to an end for this duo 🥺. I’ll continue to watch since I’m a big fan of the channel but things aren’t probably going to be the same without him. Big thumb kiss to Craig… Here’s to hoping he’ll make future appearances (even if it just over zoom). 🤞
Gosh I'm gonna miss Craig. Many thanks to him for his years of amazing entertainment. Went into this ep with a few beers in me after a night with friends. Felt right to end the night with this episode. Eternal gratitude to Matt and Craig for this show that has meant so much to me.
I started watching RUclips in the summer of 2014, you guys and Chris Stuckman were the first channels that I followed. This is like Ebert without Siskel, of course, that was different because Gene sadly died not long after he left but it was never the same and some bromances can never be replaced. Wish you the best, Craig. I will also throw in your Mac and Me episode from years ago still makes me laugh my a@@ off.
I haven’t been here since the start like so many people, but it’s easily been six or seven years. I started as a B&BG fan who didn’t understand why this weird other show popped up twice a month. The. I started watching; then I became the second Luke that was a regular donor to the show, and now I might be the only one. I know this show has created community for a lot of people, and I generally sit quietly in the background, but Matt and Craig always made even us silent folks feel like we were one of the Basement crew. Thank you Craig for sharing these years with us; we’ve seen your changes and been honored to sit beside you without taking up space. We’ll miss you more than you know, that much I guarantee.
Oh my goodness. Am in tears. Thank You Craig (Matt). Loved Craig’s unique takes and analysis and deep and insightful perspectives as well as his such brilliant wonderful acting in ‘Chad Vader’ and others. Craig has always been a favorite of mine in the ‘BlameSociety’ Verse and for all of the years of fun,thought-provoking takes and perspectives, all out throughout awareness, dedication, truly deep and meaningful, and some of the best and most sincere informative film reviews. (and Thank You for continuing the series! Very/Really Truly appreciate All You have done and am sure will go on to do such amazing things Craig and Best Regards Cheers! And I looking forward to seeing more continued |’Welcome To The Basement|’ for life and many many and many more years to come.
I remember watching the Nanook of the North episode, all those years ago. Craig made a CASK OF AMONTILLADO joke about the Puppies being sealed in an ice pen. I was hooked. Bye for now, Craig. Thank you for a decade of entertaining movie talk.
Between the filming of Nanook and its release, I spent the time thinking about the Amontillado line, and I thought "If Matt keeps that bit, then I will have a free reign on the show. I can be my full self. I won't have to self edit obscure references on the fly. I can use every rung of my comedy ladder from the perverse to the arcane." If that line didn't make it, the show wouldn't have been near as fun for me and I might not have done it for 11+ years. And here in this episode, Matt dropped a reference to the first episode of Deadwood. A comparable obscure reference to Fortunado and Montressor's walk through the catacombs. If the whole show was those references, it wouldn't have any audience, but sprinkled here and there, it made it a show for everyone. Thanks for watching. It's been a pleasure on this end. Hope it was for you on yours.
I know I'm about two weeks late on this one, but I started watching you and Craig at the very beginning with Nanook of the North. I had been watching Beer and Board Games for a couple of years at that point, and as a 21 year old who had just recently started getting really into movies, this was the perfect show to put on after a long day of work. I would see what movie was featured in the latest episode, watch it on my own, and then watch you guys the next day and basically compare notes. It was a great way to get exposed to a lot of different movies, and also improve my media literacy since both you and Craig brought a perspective that I wouldn't have had in my early 20s. Like most things that I was interested in 10 years ago, I fell out of watching this show a few years back, but I've always appreciated what you and Craig have done here, and for helping me along in my film journey. I think you even answered my Seen It! question in one episode, but I can't for the life of me remember what movie I was asking about or what episode it was. I wish you and Craig the best, and keep up the good work, with whatever co-host(s) you have in the future, Matt.
Thank you so much Craig! Best of luck in everything going forward! Been watching since high school and am now 24 and have been so grateful to join in on yours and Matt’s time in the basement
I was fortunate to find this at the beginning of the lockdown, and am happy I didn't find it before, so I could work through the catalog. When I describe this to friends, I say it has two guys who are intelligent and erudite, but somehow steer entirely clear of Comic Book Guy personas. Thank you so much.
Thanks Craig, I’ve been a fan from the beginning… interviewed you both for my website a ways back… and have looked forward every Friday to seeing what you guys would be up to. Wish you the very best of everything. And Matt, thanks as well… maybe this might be an opportunity to add some new elements to the show… perhaps it could be a bunch of different cohosts …. You’ve certainly got enough friends. I’ll still be watching and looking forward to every Friday.
Somehow Valerie and her week of wonders was the doorstep to this basement of yours and it's been weeks of wonders since. roses are red, violets are blue, you've had more to do with my life than you think Craig, (name that movie) and you'll miss us too. Cheers!
Matt! Don't forget to give the Michael Shannon signed picture to Craig! Love the show and cant wait for the new era while still holding on to the joy of the last 11 yrs. Cheers 💗
This is the one show my partner and I can agree on watching on the regular, and we're both upset about Craig's exit, though we understand it completely. I discovered Matt from when he was making silly internet videos with Aaron and then discovered Beer and Boardgames, and it was great to see Matt and Craig in a different context. So now we're going to get a similar context with a different dynamic (or dynamics) and that's fine.
By my count Matt & Craig watched 276 movies (including the end-of-year short films) together, and it stands a treasure trove of insightful, nuanced discussion and analysis of films all across the spectrums of time, genre, and nation of origin. I'm wishing both of you the best; I'm melancholy, but also excited for where the show will go next. Here's to endings and their new beginnings. 🍾🥂 (I hadn't thought of this before but I wonder if Craig will receive the signed photo of Michael Shannon.)
I can't act like I'm not distraught about Craig leaving. I found you guys when I was a sophomore(or junior) in high school, and now I'm 25. You both have forever changed how I view movies.

That handshake and thanks was extremely powerful. See ya later Craig. Thumb kiss 👍🏻
You will be missed, Craig.

He's not quite dead!
I think my favorite thing about Craig is that even when he's making fun of a movie, it doesn't come off as mean. You can tell that he wants the movie to be good, and is willing to give credit to a bad movie that manages to do something well.

For now.

Here's to ten more!🍾🎉
There's no way this show will ever be the same without Craig. Matt and Craig are like the Dynamic Duo of cinema, and I have so enjoyed the discussions, opinions, and jokes throughout all these years.

Standing ovation. Thanks.

Goddamn, and how. I'm heartbroken.
I’m really sad about this being Craig’s last episode. I’m also saddened about Tona… idk the details but it hurts knowing that the original lineup will never be all together ever again. 😢 best of luck to you Matt and future guests!
I may be out of the loop but why is Craig leaving and what happened to Tona?
I THINK Craig is departing because he’s moving? I think Tona left because their marriage dissolved.
@@yurdp who’s Tona? 👀
@@nemesis9410 Matt’s ex wife. I think. It’s not confirmed but I noticed he stopped wearing a wedding ring about a year ago.

I like Craig’s choice to wear the Totoro shirt. I just rewatched that episode last week

It was a great journey Craig, thank you for being our guide.

Never looked forward so much and dreaded watching as much before. Hitting play on the last one with Craig hurts.

Honestly going to miss you.
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
Godspeed Craig with your future projects and life goals. Thank for talking films with Matt
Shed a tear, love to both and thanks for being the best thing of the week!
Happy Trails Craig.
"All Gas Must Pass," great album!
Definitely going to miss Craig. I just wish him the best in what ever he decides to take on next.
We will miss you Craig
Thanks Craig, I’ve been a fan from the beginning… interviewed you both for my website a ways back… and have looked forward every Friday to seeing what you guys would be up to. Wish you the very best of everything. And Matt, thanks as well… maybe this might be an opportunity to add some new elements to the show… perhaps it could be a bunch of different cohosts …. You’ve certainly got enough friends. I’ll still be watching and looking forward to every Friday.
It takes awhile with a shovel 😂. You will be missed my friend.
thank you Craig.
Somehow Valerie and her week of wonders was the doorstep to this basement of yours and it's been weeks of wonders since.
roses are red,
violets are blue,
you've had more to do with my life than you think Craig, (name that movie)
and you'll miss us too.
Cheers!
CRAIG! COME BACK!
Matt! Don't forget to give the Michael Shannon signed picture to Craig! Love the show and cant wait for the new era while still holding on to the joy of the last 11 yrs. Cheers 💗
Wow, what a kickass viewer to remember this!
(I hadn't thought of this before but I wonder if Craig will receive the signed photo of Michael Shannon.)
