The Sinatra/Jobim LP is one of the most beautiful albums you’d ever want to hear. ❤
Yes!!!! It never gets old and i love every single song!
Jobim is a composer from heaven. Sinatra is superb.
thankyou for reacting our culture! a big hug from brasil
🎉 yes. Thank you for loaning us Antonio Carlos Jobim
💕
Sinatra lighting a cigarette before he starts to sing? Man, how cool was "the boss'? I'm not talking about Springsteen either! No big deal back then -- it was a different time of class and grace. Classy selection, Bennett - loved your reaction, too, Harri!
👍💯❤🤩
Agree!!
Watched the full tv show which this excerpt is taken from on BBC recently. The entire show was a delight, especially when Frank joins Ella Fitzgerald for the finale. Good job Harri.
Bossa nova (and Brazilan jazz and MPB in general) convey the joy of life like no other music.
Fantastic Singer & Wonderful Composer... ( Francis Albert Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim ) + Claus Ogerman 😀
I was in my twenties when Bossa Nova became popular in the '60s, and I fell for it immediately - still love it. Thank you for this, Harri.
My dear Antonio Carlos Jobim... He was a great composer. His songs and his partnerships with Chico Buarque, Vinicius de Moraes and others accompanied me throughout my youth.
Simply one of the best albums & collaborations of all time. Two supreme artists! Just stunning. I played this on vinyl literally 100s of times. (Really love your sensibilities & reactions HarriBest ❤️)
What a wonderful pairing.
I assume you are familiar with the album "Getz/Gilberto." For those who are not, it features jazz saxophonist Stan Getz and bossa nova guitarist João Gilberto. It includes the famous song "The Girl from Ipanema," but the entire album is excellent. I find that when I play music that has vocals in a language I don't understand, I listen to the singer's voice like it's just another instrument. I've loved this album for about 50 years, since I discovered it as a toddler.
It is a wonderful album!
Me too. Bought the album for "The Girl From Ipanema" but soon learned to love
the rest of it as well. At first I thought the lyrics were in Spanish until I asked a
Spanish speaking co-worker to listen to it and he could not understand it. Later
I found out it was Portuguese.
@@debrabrabenec I agree 👍
Been listening to that one since it was new in the 60s and I was a teenager. I've worn out 3 vinyl albums to the point that you could see daylight through them! Safe to say I really love Brazilian Jazz & Bossa Nova.
Thanks for the recommendation!
"Frank is a singer who comes along once in a lifetime, but why did he have to come in mine?"--BING CROSBY. He wasn't called The Voice for nothing.
My mother was his piano teacher. She told me that he was a great fan of Frank Sinatra. She almost cryed when she saw them playing toguether.
Your mom is SO LUCKY!
When I hear Sinatra I feel the world is okay. So relaxing and soothing.
The amazing thing is that the first two songs - Change Partners and I Concentrate on You - in the medley are not part of the Bossa Nova canon but were written by two of the giants of the American songbook, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter respectively. Yet, Sinatra and his German arranger Claus Ogerman adapted them to fit perfectly.
Thanks... Wonderful addition of knowledge to the life of both artists ✌🎼
Tom Jobim is an amazing composer, he is also a maestro, literally, he studied to be one and his first musical instrument is not guitar, it’s piano, he is a pianist, he plays guitar for fun.
And plays so well...🎸
Check out Antonio's song by Michael Franks.. it's a fitting tribute.
Sinatra,...man, what an AWESOME voice. He had it all,...the voice, the swagger, the talent, the charisma, the confidence,...etc. Antonio Jobim...JUST PERFECT, both of you RIP.
Also the sensitivity that makes you feel every lyric. Exquisite control of vocal shading. Sinatra at his most sensual.
@@giovanna722: BRAVO 👏. Well said.
Love this medley. It’s pure heaven. Thanks for this reaction. BTW Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Nat King Cole were all great singers who often would smoke during their song. It was a thing in the 50s and 60s but for obvious reasons you rarely see that now.
Unfortunately the new Brazilian generation doesn't listen to bossa nova or mpb anymore, they think it's lame.. your neighbours might be Portuguese mate... Im Portuguese and my Brazilian friends here in the UK think im old cause i listen to bossa nova, im only in my 30's mate xD
Epic Sinatra. He, Tony Bennet, Chet Baker, and Nat King Cole are the essential jazz singers who the great jazz musicians listen to, for fun.
Welcome to the "Cool Kids Club" Harri! Next stop Bing Crosby singing to Dorothy Lamour "Moonlight Becomes You" from 1942 movie "the Road To Morocco. Use this clip: ruclips.net/video/dUmkz95E7mw/видео.html There is also a clip out there of Willie Nelson singing it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Their duets were amazing. I'm so glad to see someone reacting to some of Sinatra's less-famous songs (relatively speaking), and his collaboration with Jobim in particular. :D
This album is one of my favorites of Frank Sinatra.
Just for the record, Change Partners was originally sung by Fred Astaire in the 40’s and is a classic.
A suggestion: The James Hunter Six “Whatever It Takes.”
....what a talent: Sinatra was the only no brazilian singer who got immediately the soul of the Bossa Nova Rhythm......awesome!!!
Agree!!!
Here is another gem for you Harri, Elis Regina was very involved with Jobim and recorded many of his songs. Toots Thielsman is the most unlikely 60s groovy cat but performed with all the great performers of the crooner era. This is real talent on overload.
What a wonderfull colab 🥰🤩😇 Great reaction Harri
This is awesome. These old jazz men classy and classy. Please react to crooner Walter Jackson's A Blossom Fell and Speak Her Name.
The smoothest velvet in Sintra's larynx...
Linda música.
Im Brazilian. React to Taj Mahal of Jorge Ben Jor...
I love Jorge Ben's Mas Que Nada🎼
A song a lot of people never hear is on this album. It’s called “Bonita”….its my favorite!
Thanks for that!!!
@@brettmeares9716you’re very welcome! Let me know how you like it!
Harri,I remember watching this TV special when I was a kid, as remember it was a good show. Nice reaction
Antonio co-wrote probably the most covered song in history- The girl from Ipanema.
Try *NARA LEÃO*
This song would put me on the beach with a cocktail at least that's how I'd imagine it.
I love first reactions but most sites break in too early with comments... You listened and I really think that is a professional approach ... I subscribed straight away and look forward to more videos... Anyone from Brasil alive in his heyday, I would love to hear from you🎸🎹🎼
Smooth, wasn’t he? Oh yeah.
Gritty and honest .
Never seen this before. Didn't know they had ever collaborated. FYI- Jobim wrote the
music and Vinicius de Moraes the lyrics to "The Girl From Ipanema" which is a true
story. The best, and best known, version was released in 1964 with Stan Getz on Sax,
Joao Gilberto on guitar and English vocals by Joao's wife Astrud.
Thanks for the info... I love anything about those days which adds to the picture✌
My stepdaddy's favorite singer, Frank Sinatra, the generation of WWII. I grew up with the ash tray in just about every living room of the America household. The restaurants, with even the dinner/lounge train cars had ash trays. The airlines had ash trays. The automobile had ash trays. The movie theatres had a smoking sections and lounge ash trays. Matches, match books, and fancy silver flip top lighters. Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack set that casual lounge mood smoking while singing. Watching 1950's example commercials were Lucky Strikes or with programs like Perry Mason and I Love Lucy was smoking, and smoking, and more smoking. Talk Shows would not be without an ashtray. Everywhere was an acceptable light up...gosh, your wonderful videos bring back so many memories. But I grew up with the Frank Sinatra sound.
Yes , though not healthy, it was absorbing... Especially for a kid like me... (I don't smoke anymore😃)
As melhores praias do Brasil são as do Ceará Fortaleza 😊
What kind of perfection is this??? The perfect kind ❤
Dear Harri, the diva Sarah Vaughan recorded an album singing Beatles (if you haven't heard it I highly recommend it) and on 'Something' with a Bossa Nova style arrangement by Marcos Valle (who also sings), I'm sure you'll like it. I take the opportunity to say that she recorded 2 albums with Brazilian songs, in one of which a young guitarist, Hélio Delmiro, had a demonstration about who S.V. was: they had recorded a song - If You Went Away (Preciso Aprender a Ser Só) - in which he did a solo, they went to check everything seemed fine, but she asked them to record it again, but this time it was so that he could feel more free to play. They restarted and he thought he was doing well, but she stopped and said to the producer "I think he still doesn't understand, say what's happening now is just because of him, that for him to play everything he knows" recognizing and valuing the talent of this young - the great singers, actors, etc are humble and recognize value in others. Finally, I add that the last time she entered a recording studio was for a Brazilian record. I always say that music is art and art is not classified by its age but by its quality. Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you for that information... Adds to the complete picture🎸🎹🎼
Bossa Nova can be defined with one word: Romance
World class.
i used to have this album when it first came out Sinatra and Jobim
I just died and went to heaven. ❤
Em inglês. Nao entendo nada. Sinto muito.
Sinatra sings as if he's speaking. It's effortless and truthful.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Just turn the lights down low, pour some scotch, light a good cigar and drop the needle on side A, track one. Then get lost in the music.
Yes!!!!!
Gotta do some more Black Sabbath!
this is a line my channel, total domain
They are so cool. They make it look effortless.
An immense amount of talent and work.
Epic
I've been drinking coffee listening to this song for a long time...
lol... I get it✌
DOIS DEUSES
REUNIDOS !!! MEU DEUSSSS!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Congratulations on your good taste, I'm Brazilian and I know how wonderful that time was!
I love music as most people on these sites do... I discovered Antonio Carlos Jobim around 2007... There just wasn't much information on him in Australia and until I realised he composed so many beautiful songs, he was an unknown... But not now - he's my favourite composer🎼🎸🎹
Harri remains the best. On top of all styles.
