The bombing of U-Boots towing survivors of a sinking, in turn attacked by a US bomber* led directly to the order by Doenitz commanding his crews NOT to rescue survivors. It also did not help that the US Pacific submarine fleet, engaged against the Japanese, also followed the same rules. *Failing to sink the sub, but killing some innocents in the lifeboats and on the U-Boots deck, which happened to be flying the Red Cross ...did get the aircrew some medals for heroism though, but no charges of war crimes. After all, "They were just following orders!"

Good lord, allies did tons of war crimes lmao, but the trick is to not lose the war I guess.
