I thought I would let you two know that Kanami got her PRS signature model introduced today. She is the first Japanese female artist to be given a signature model from the company.
Slight correction, Mincho is now the first Japanese musician, male or female, to receive the high honor of their very own PRS Signature Guitar. Only 200 of them will be made and almost all of them were sold out the very first day after the announcement by Band-Maid's Kanami fans.
Great reaction as always... As of today Band-Maid said that Kanamincho will be the first japanese guitarist that will have a signature guitar produced and sent out next month.. It will have Kanami Tono's signature on the back. So proud of Kanami and Band-Maid. I have been following Band-Maid since 2014 and I believe they are the most talented band and musicians on the planet today IMHO. As a musician of 56 plus years and I have studied music and music theory since the age of 9. Kanami Tono is an incredible writer, composer and guitarist and I have to add pianist.. That's why we love BAND-MAID so much. It's not just for their music, it's for them as individuals, how they conduct themselves on & off stage & everything good & uplifting they represent as human beings.🤗
After 6 years, my love for this band still grows. You've done a lot of their songs already, but trust me when I say that that will not stop - with every song you do, your appreciation for them, and especially the songwriting will only increase. I've said without hesitation that I put them in the same league as McCartney/Lennon when it comes to cranking out song after song that many other bands would be proud to call their "best" song. I say none of this to crow about the shows I've seen - after all, I'm old, but I'm a guy that grew up with the prog masters, and I've been to shows by King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Bowie - and on and on. And while some of these bands have reached a higher level of technical ability, or legendary status, I've never felt about them the way I feel about these maids. I can't go a day without them. They're like oxygen to me. They've done more for me than any of the others. I love them.

Kanami: It’s literally my life. I don’t feel like playing in a band other than Band-Maid now. I don’t think I will ever meet greater people than them, so I even think of fading from the scene at the moment when Band-Maid stops. Kanami is like a petite Japanese Oscar Petersen, the level of detail she includes in her compositions is why everything always sounds like the perfect balance and blend, even the solos, it is all thought out and groomed like a bonsai tree. They published the score book for the album Unseen World and it is 300 pages of musical notation. Kanami is a treasure.

Damn Ohrenje, the final moments of this episode keep breaking me no matter how many times I watch it. 😭:) Before I stumbled across the MV for 'Thrill', I actually always had the focus on the drums. I don't know why, it was just the way it was. But those 4 minutes were enough to completely readjust that focus. From the first moment, Kanami had something special about her, something that drew me to her. And when I heard 'Daydreaming' shortly afterwards, or rather saw the MV for it, my musical heart belonged entirely to her. :) And with every scrap of information, I realized that she is so much more than just a good guitarist. A really interesting and endearing young woman character-wise. And then there's the amount of songs we have to thank her for, not a single one of which is bad. Context for when Miku called Kanami a "Japanese hentai". Saiki was sweating during one of the American tour shows while Miku was talking to the audience, and as she was wiping it off her chin, she looked at the crowd and started flicking the sweat off her hand, and at the crowd. Which, you can imagine the reaction... Ahem. So, Kanami saw that, and started flailing her arms asking to get Saiki sweat on her too. Which Saiki obliged, flicking her hand towards Kanami, who tried her best to get every particle of Saiki sweat she could. Crowd laughs, while Miku looks at the two stunned for a moment, before turning to the crowd, and saying "Kanami is... Japanese hentai!"
Damn just saw this video. 12.5k price tag but only 200 made. I have a 92 Les Paul from the limited colors series in Blue that is also only limited to 200 made. I took it on tour loke an idiot and beat it up a bit but im sure its still worth a pretty penny!
Kanami was saying on X that she was a bit nervous being interviewed this past weekend at a PRS Japan event in Tokyo. All the members were hidden in the second level VIP section in support. MNN reporter Peter Lim mentioned that she kept on looking up in the direction of her band mates throughout the interview, causing everyone to look up at the VIP section like being at center court of a tennis match, lol! Btw, she was the main billing, closing for Paul Reed Smith, and she did have some "breaking news" but told every at the event not to mention any of it. How can you not love Kanami? She's so talented and driven, and so damned sweet at the same time. She's not intentionally funny, but just naturally kind of goofy, which is so endearing. Miku deserves so much respect for finding her, recognizing her talent, and inviting her to join up.
I had forgot that you were doing Band-Maid Mondays. What a nice surprize to find when I made it to my local coffee shop. Kanami is rare gem of a person. She approaches everything with the mindset of "I will do my best" and she actually says that quite often. I agree that finding musicians with the same motivation and ambition to form a band is quite an obstacle. I have been the only one to show up to a scheduled practice on a few occasions. It is a shme that Kanami doesn't like to sing because she has an angelic voice. Of course she hasn't had issues singing backup when her and Saiki do a song together. I would love to see Kanami's process of songwriting. That clip of her playing unplugged guitar and lala'ing the vocal melody to Saiki is as close that I have seen of that. As a side note... I have over 40 guitars. Ibanez, Charvel, Jackson, BC Rich, Fender, Aria Pro, Epiphone, Kramer, and many other brands but no PRS so far. I would love to try an Addictone sometime but have never seen one in person.
They say to “never meet your heroes,” because invariably they will disappoint you and never live up to your image of them. I wager that wouldn’t be the case if I met Kanami ❤

I love all of BAND-MAID's songs that Kanami led. They are catchy yet complex, and have a coexistence of nostalgia and novelty that you will never tire of listening to. Actually, I've been listening to it every day since 2019 until today (lol)
The first thing that struck me the first time I listened to Band-Maid was that the songs sounded so familiar to me, even though I had never heard them before. I have no idea how Kanami managed to take 45 years of music from inside my head mash it up and put it together so brilliantly. I think because I am older but sometimes I get emotional when I listen to them. It is like it takes me back to my youth while transporting me to the future at the same time. Not sure if this makes any sense to anyone but me, but this is the only way I know how to describe their music, and Kanami is obviously a big part of that. How is someone so adorable and a bad-ass at the same time ?
Great reaction guys, glad you're getting to know the band better. When they moved to Pony Canyon in 2021, they asked Kanami to submit a riff each week and she's been doing that for a couple of years now. In a recent interview she said that a typical day is practice for 3 hours and composing for 3 hours.
Well its official, PRS finally built Kanami a signature guitar, ( limited to 200 units) and to no ones' surprise it sold out, ( in 1 day ), there is a video of Kanami showing it and speaking about it on YT, she is nearly in tears, @ruclips.net/video/uTTGynaTyuc/видео.html
I always appreciate how you guys take these videos so seriously and appreciate the content. The thing that has always impressed me about the docs is how it shows these ladies have no egos and that they cooperate to make their music the best it can be. Buy the way, Mincho has a truly remarkable method for how she comes up with the songs. In one interview she told how she has a file on her computer that has something like fifty song ideas. So when she gets a request from one of the members to do a particular type of song, she searches the files until she finds a song that might work. This is incredible for a writer to have so many ideas that she can fill a computer file. She deserves the title "genius".

Kanami can be an airhead but she also can be a tough drill sergeant. She pushes both Miku's singing and guitar playing. For the "Show Them" collab with The Warning, she had both Saiki and Dany sing in a higher register than either usually did. As for "Mincho mode", I always think of the Craig Ferguson joke that Canadians are the nicest people in the world until you put a hockey stick on their hands. Kanami is like that with a guitar. There are a lot of little snippets that fly by in this video. In one Kanami is playing Tony Visconti's 12-string Zemaitis electric, one of two in the world, the other one belonged to George Harrison. Miku was afraid to touch it, but Kanami played it a little. Visconti produced "The Dragon Cries" for them. Saiki and Miku flew to NYC and recorded the vocals in Tony's studio, the same one where Tony worked with David Bowie. Tony was impressed with their work ethic, they sang over an 8 hour period which no other singers had ever done. The more you hear about this band the more impressive they are.
Thanks for posting this. Love this doc by Ohrenje on Kanami. For many of us maidiacs, Kanami is the band's resident genius. She's the Brian Wilson of the band, who composes the music, leads the band through rehearsals, and quietly pushes everyone to become better at their craft. Many of Band-Maid's songs - esp the newer ones - have a layered, complex soundscape consisting of many interesting, almost random sounds not played by any of the instrumentalists (industrial sounds, orchestral sounds, etc.). To my knowledge, all of this is done by Kanami on her Digital Audio Workshop. (The Band-Maiko versions of the songs with the added traditional Japanese instrumental arrangements were apparently all done by Kanami on her DAW.)
I love Band-Maid Mondays, It was Kanami that made me take notice of Band-Maid. The instant I heard her tone; I knew right away that that was my sound. It had been lost for decades.
Nobody makes me laugh like 'Mincho!! She's also such a SWEETHEART! Those are 2 traits not often associated with someone so driven and ambitious. Today, it was officially announced by PRS that the first Kanami signature model as a Japanese person will be released. Kanami is a truly outstanding guitarist and composer who deserves this! This has also been a long-held dream for us at Maidiacs, so we are incredibly happy to the point of tears!🎉

I've always felt that Kanami writes the way a good classical composer would for a chamber ensemble: always keeping a healthy part-independence while at the same time never losing the overall structure of the piece. But that's only one aspect of her genius.
Mincho is short for Kanamimincho, a term of endearment among family and friends in Japan. It was shortened to Mincho, which Kanami calls herself. Tequila Jimmy, I love your t-shirt with Godzilla on it. There is a famous poster for "Godzilla Returns" with a bright fiery background behind it. There is a scene official music video from "Warning" by Band-Maid with Kanami standing on the roof of a car with a fiery background very similar to the Godzilla poster. Now that would be a great t-shirt!

Kanami is one of music history's greatest composers, yet so egoless and thoughtful. The group looks like they enjoy performing live. I saw one video where they played at a venue connected to a bowling alley, and during the solo performances the rest of the band were bowling.

The humour of Kanami is strange, in that she doesn't seem to realise that she is so fine and super cute. I switched to PRS after seeing Kanami playing one. Mine is a PRS Custom Vintage Sunburst- 6 pickup settings then the tone control on top. Mid you- dropped guitar 4 years ago to play drums after seeing Akane play. I'm a better drummer now than I was a guitarist after 40 years- live and learn. Great reaction- love hearing about your own experiences.
Word up is that Kanami's New Custom Shop PRS...costs around $12,500. It was made to her specifications. I hope she was comped for it, because that is a LOT of money. BTW, Kanami's pedal board is awesome.

There is nothing on Band-Maid's schedule after they wrap up their ZEPP tour with a two-night stand at ZEPP Tokyo on Nov. 25th and 26th. Miku mentioned at a recent okyuji that they would be "leaving home" soon. It all adds up to an overseas Band-Maid tour for the new year. Please make it so.
Kanami is also pretty damn good on the drums as well. There is a video of each member playing Akane's kit. Heck, she could probably kill it on bass too.
Somewhere on RUclips there's a fancam of a Band Maid concert and in between two songs, a fan yells out "Saiki! Marry me!" And Mincho immediately responds with, "No! Saiki, marry ME!"

From Japan Another secret of BAND-MAID that is not often talked about. Kanami and Misa are said to have perfect pitch. They seem to be able to distinguish and analyze the notes of every song. And Miku, who couldn't read music, said that she copies the guitar parts by ear. And she said that she fills in the space of sound when she plays. Watching her chorus and guitar playing, I feel that she has a special talent. And all five of them seem to have experience with the piano, and Saiki has started performing piano at live shows. They are five humble geniuses.

My favorite Rock band and favorite Metal band both have a genius guitar player who writes the songs, starts off the process with a piano and Pro Tools and creates and sends tracks to the rest of the band. Interesting parallels.

I wish there was a good tab for the acoustic of puzzle. I need something in front of me. Another reactor/teacher did a great tutorial once but a good tab would be great. I've got the first few measures down, and that's about it.
All three members of the Warning are ckasically trained on the piano before they picked up their respective instruments. I think that has contributed greatly to their abilities and their success as musicians.
Kanami and Miyako (from Lovebites) ....... too many things in common: the piano, the love for classical composers, the smooth transition from piano to guitar, being the main composer of the music of the band .... unfortunately a similar documentary is not available for Miyako and the other Lovebites members

After 6 years, my love for this band still grows. You've done a lot of their songs already, but trust me when I say that that will not stop - with every song you do, your appreciation for them, and especially the songwriting will only increase. I've said without hesitation that I put them in the same league as McCartney/Lennon when it comes to cranking out song after song that many other bands would be proud to call their "best" song. I say none of this to crow about the shows I've seen - after all, I'm old, but I'm a guy that grew up with the prog masters, and I've been to shows by King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Bowie - and on and on. And while some of these bands have reached a higher level of technical ability, or legendary status, I've never felt about them the way I feel about these maids. I can't go a day without them. They're like oxygen to me. They've done more for me than any of the others. I love them.
You are not alone. I feel exactly the same way.

― Kanami-san, what does Band-Maid mean to you?
Kanami: It’s literally my life. I don’t feel like playing in a band other than Band-Maid now. I don’t think I will ever meet greater people than them, so I even think of fading from the scene at the moment when Band-Maid stops. I bet my life on it like that.
― However, I feel like you won’t be able to get out of a life with music.
Kanami: If Saiki says “Sorry, my throat is over”, I’ll be like “OK, let’s end”. I strongly believe we must be these five of us. I don’t know if any one of us will ever want to quit, but as I said, life has ups and downs, so that might happen. I think if any one of us quits, it’s OK for me to end everything.
― You don’t know when the end will come, and that’s why you are doing your best with no regrets.

Kanami is like a petite Japanese Oscar Petersen, the level of detail she includes in her compositions is why everything always sounds like the perfect balance and blend, even the solos, it is all thought out and groomed like a bonsai tree. They published the score book for the album Unseen World and it is 300 pages of musical notation. Kanami is a treasure.

Before I stumbled across the MV for 'Thrill', I actually always had the focus on the drums. I don't know why, it was just the way it was. But those 4 minutes were enough to completely readjust that focus. From the first moment, Kanami had something special about her, something that drew me to her. And when I heard 'Daydreaming' shortly afterwards, or rather saw the MV for it, my musical heart belonged entirely to her. :) And with every scrap of information, I realized that she is so much more than just a good guitarist. A really interesting and endearing young woman character-wise. And then there's the amount of songs we have to thank her for, not a single one of which is bad. It's pretty crazy when you actually think about it. :)

Context for when Miku called Kanami a "Japanese hentai". Saiki was sweating during one of the American tour shows while Miku was talking to the audience, and as she was wiping it off her chin, she looked at the crowd and started flicking the sweat off her hand, and at the crowd. Which, you can imagine the reaction... Ahem. So, Kanami saw that, and started flailing her arms asking to get Saiki sweat on her too. Which Saiki obliged, flicking her hand towards Kanami, who tried her best to get every particle of Saiki sweat she could. Crowd laughs, while Miku looks at the two stunned for a moment, before turning to the crowd, and saying "Kanami is... Japanese hentai!"

Damn just saw this video. 12.5k price tag but only 200 made. I have a 92 Les Paul from the limited colors series in Blue that is also only limited to 200 made. I took it on tour loke an idiot and beat it up a bit but im sure its still worth a pretty penny!

Kanami was saying on X that she was a bit nervous being interviewed this past weekend at a PRS Japan event in Tokyo. All the members were hidden in the second level VIP section in support. MNN reporter Peter Lim mentioned that she kept on looking up in the direction of her band mates throughout the interview, causing everyone to look up at the VIP section like being at center court of a tennis match, lol! Btw, she was the main billing, closing for Paul Reed Smith, and she did have some "breaking news" but told every at the event not to mention any of it. Could it be a trip to Stevensville, Po!? 🦍🍌UPDATE: 11/19/2024. It's a Kanami Signature PRS limited to 200 copies worldwide, each signed by Mincho. Saiko, Po! Btw, It's about time!

How can you not love Kanami? She's so talented and driven, and so damned sweet at the same time. She's not intentionally funny, but just naturally kind of goofy, which is so endearing. Miku deserves so much respect for finding her, recognizing her talent, and inviting her to join up.

I had forgot that you were doing Band-Maid Mondays. What a nice surprize to find when I made it to my local coffee shop.
Kanami is rare gem of a person. She approaches everything with the mindset of "I will do my best" and she actually says that quite often.
I agree that finding musicians with the same motivation and ambition to form a band is quite an obstacle. I have been the only one to show up to a scheduled practice on a few occasions.
It is a shme that Kanami doesn't like to sing because she has an angelic voice. Of course she hasn't had issues singing backup when her and Saiki do a song together.
I would love to see Kanami's process of songwriting. That clip of her playing unplugged guitar and lala'ing the vocal melody to Saiki is as close that I have seen of that.
As a side note... I have over 40 guitars. Ibanez, Charvel, Jackson, BC Rich, Fender, Aria Pro, Epiphone, Kramer, and many other brands but no PRS so far. I would love to try an Addictone sometime but have never seen one in person.

I love all of BAND-MAID's songs that Kanami led. They are catchy yet complex, and have a coexistence of nostalgia and novelty that you will never tire of listening to. Actually, I've been listening to it every day since 2019 until today (lol)

The first thing that struck me the first time I listened to Band-Maid was that the songs sounded so familiar to me, even though I had never heard them before. I have no idea how Kanami managed to take 45 years of music from inside my head mash it up and put it together so brilliantly. I think because I am older but sometimes I get emotional when I listen to them. It is like it takes me back to my youth while transporting me to the future at the same time. Not sure if this makes any sense to anyone but me, but this is the only way I know how to describe their music, and Kanami is obviously a big part of that. How is someone so adorable and a bad-ass at the same time ?
Great reaction guys, glad you're getting to know the band better. When they moved to Pony Canyon in 2021, they asked Kanami to submit a riff each week and she's been doing that for a couple of years now. In a recent interview she said that a typical day is practice for 3 hours and composing for 3 hours.

I always appreciate how you guys take these videos so seriously and appreciate the content. The thing that has always impressed me about the docs is how it shows these ladies have no egos and that they cooperate to make their music the best it can be.
Buy the way, Mincho has a truly remarkable method for how she comes up with the songs. In one interview she told how she has a file on her computer that has something like fifty song ideas. So when she gets a request from one of the members to do a particular type of song, she searches the files until she finds a song that might work. This is incredible for a writer to have so many ideas that she can fill a computer file. She deserves the title "genius".

Kanami can be an airhead but she also can be a tough drill sergeant. She pushes both Miku's singing and guitar playing. For the "Show Them" collab with The Warning, she had both Saiki and Dany sing in a higher register than either usually did. As for "Mincho mode", I always think of the Craig Ferguson joke that Canadians are the nicest people in the world until you put a hockey stick on their hands. Kanami is like that with a guitar. There are a lot of little snippets that fly by in this video. In one Kanami is playing Tony Visconti's 12-string Zemaitis electric, one of two in the world, the other one belonged to George Harrison. Miku was afraid to touch it, but Kanami played it a little. Visconti produced "The Dragon Cries" for them. Saiki and Miku flew to NYC and recorded the vocals in Tony's studio, the same one where Tony worked with David Bowie. Tony was impressed with their work ethic, they sang over an 8 hour period which no other singers had ever done. The more you hear about this band the more impressive they are.
Thanks for posting this. Love this doc by Ohrenje on Kanami. For many of us maidiacs, Kanami is the band's resident genius. She's the Brian Wilson of the band, who composes the music, leads the band through rehearsals, and quietly pushes everyone to become better at their craft. Many of Band-Maid's songs - esp the newer ones - have a layered, complex soundscape consisting of many interesting, almost random sounds not played by any of the instrumentalists (industrial sounds, orchestral sounds, etc.). To my knowledge, all of this is done by Kanami on her Digital Audio Workshop. (The Band-Maiko versions of the songs with the added traditional Japanese instrumental arrangements were apparently all done by Kanami on her DAW.)

I love Band-Maid Mondays, It was Kanami that made me take notice of Band-Maid. The instant I heard her tone; I knew right away that that was my sound. It had been lost for decades.
Nobody makes me laugh like 'Mincho!! She's also such a SWEETHEART! Those are 2 traits not often associated with someone so driven and ambitious. If you search RUclips from "kanami back to the future" you will find a hilarious vid that I always keep handy for times when I need a laugh to pick me up. It NEVER fails!

I've always felt that Kanami writes the way a good classical composer would for a chamber ensemble: always keeping a healthy part-independence while at the same time never losing the overall structure of the piece. But that's only one aspect of her genius.

Mincho is short for Kanamimincho, a term of endearment among family and friends in Japan. It was shortened to Mincho, which Kanami calls herself. Tequila Jimmy, I love your t-shirt with Godzilla on it. There is a famous poster for "Godzilla Returns" with a bright fiery background behind it. There is a scene official music video from "Warning" by Band-Maid with Kanami standing on the roof of a car with a fiery background very similar to the Godzilla poster. Now that would be a great t-shirt!

Kanami is one of music history's greatest composers, yet so egoless and thoughtful. The group looks like they enjoy performing live. I saw one video where they played at a venue connected to a bowling alley, and during the solo performances the rest of the band were bowling.

The humour of Kanami is strange, in that she doesn't seem to realise that she is so fine and super cute. I switched to PRS after seeing Kanami playing one. Mine is a PRS Custom Vintage Sunburst- 6 pickup settings then the tone control on top. Mid you- dropped guitar 4 years ago to play drums after seeing Akane play. I'm a better drummer now than I was a guitarist after 40 years- live and learn. Great reaction- love hearing about your own experiences.
Word up is that Kanami's New Custom Shop PRS...costs around $12,500. It was made to her specifications. I hope she was comped for it, because that is a LOT of money. BTW, Kanami's pedal board is awesome.

There is nothing on Band-Maid's schedule after they wrap up their ZEPP tour with a two-night stand at ZEPP Tokyo on Nov. 25th and 26th. Miku mentioned at a recent okyuji that they would be "leaving home" soon. It all adds up to an overseas Band-Maid tour for the new year. Please make it so.
Kanami is also pretty damn good on the drums as well. There is a video of each member playing Akane's kit. Heck, she could probably kill it on bass too.

From Japan Another secret of BAND-MAID that is not often talked about. Kanami and Misa are said to have perfect pitch. They seem to be able to distinguish and analyze the notes of every song. And Miku, who couldn't read music, said that she copies the guitar parts by ear. And she said that she fills in the space of sound when she plays. Watching her chorus and guitar playing, I feel that she has a special talent. And all five of them seem to have experience with the piano, and Saiki has started performing piano at live shows. They are five humble geniuses.

My favorite Rock band and favorite Metal band both have a genius guitar player who writes the songs, starts off the process with a piano and Pro Tools and creates and sends tracks to the rest of the band. Interesting parallels.

I wish there was a good tab for the acoustic of puzzle. I need something in front of me. Another reactor/teacher did a great tutorial once but a good tab would be great. I've got the first few measures down, and that's about it.
All three members of the Warning are ckasically trained on the piano before they picked up their respective instruments. I think that has contributed greatly to their abilities and their success as musicians.
