Mi amigo me hace falta, porque no miss the feeling?

Buena pregunta! 🙂 "Me hace falta" as a feeling still expresses the absence of something. In your example "Mi amigo" is the one missing to me. He is not here and I "feel" like I miss him.
I could say "Me hace falta una manzana" after I have eaten 10 apples, not to express a feeling but to play a joke. The grammatical meaning will remain the same, I'm missing one more apple. However, I'm not trying to express a feeling. I'm trying to play a joke. Although emotions can be subjective, they still fall within the same grammar rules.
Muchas gracias por hacer una pregunta! 🙂👍
