    The one thing that always confused me is why they made the animals walk on two legs

    • @theroseofversailles
      @theroseofversailles Год назад +2

      And why most of the animals looked atrocious. I’m specifically referring to Tika and the Diamond Castle dogs.

      It’s called animation

    - About the trailers not having same designs- Prototypes are the ones they are send first to make the animation tests.
    - Books, they get the prototypes to work with but it's always way to late to change when the book process takes longer to get finish, on the animation is way easier to change a 3D model, the book is not, just for the finalizing process of a book it takes a month to get ready, leaving the artists to make the book at least 4 months.
    - I managed to visit the studio that still does most of the animations for Barbie, Mainframe/Rainmaker, and they showed us that they do a lot of motion capture, pre-production is a mess because they have to realy on the doll designers, and at the time that I went they made each movie in 6 months, another reason they recycle designs a lot!
    - Now a mysterie from the Brazilian dub- Elina was never called Elina here, she was always called Fada do Campo(Fairy of the Field), and nobody has been able to know why the Brazilian dub did this, because Elina is not a bad name around here, not at all, it's always bugged me, name changes for localization it's rather common.
    But one great thing that the Brazilian localization is that in a Mermaid Tale, they changed Merliah to MarVita to diferenciate from the main character's name that was Merliah too, like Marvita sounds good and fits the description way better- Mar- Sea and Vita- Life, Marvita- sea life.

    I was confused whether Mariposa was Barbie or not. Told she is barbie but if she is barbie why was Elina (barbie) telling her story as a friend of hers. Also her voice wasn’t barbie’s initially until the sequel. Personally I don’t think she has barbies face type in the first movie

    • @AmicaSecret
      @AmicaSecret Год назад +5

      This happened with the dub of my language too, initially Mariposa had a different voice from Barbie, but in the second movie Barbie voice actress voices her. Maybe they tought having two characters (Elina and Mariposa) with the same voice was strange, or Mariposa was not a Barbie initially

  • @finland4ever55
    @finland4ever55 Год назад +12

    Rayna and Rayla also had the same dress.
    Nori's old design was shown on the back of the DVD cover for some reason Shella appeared in the teaser trailer.
    Similarly, Princess Charm School had Isla not shown on the cover except for the back on atiny image at a tea party. Delancy is mentioned as the other friend, and Isla never got a doll., Apparently, that was because the dolls came first.
    Mariposa's accents can be explained by the fact that the movie has Spanish influence, and Flutterfield is Spain-coded. The music even notably has a Spanish flavour. I theorize that Fairytopia is in Portugal, which explains how Mariposa and Elina also know each other. Shimmervale might even be Malta. I have noticed there's certain nationality coding on other movies, like Island Princess being Italy-coded, the Ambassadors in Mermaid tale being Russian, Kenyan, Brazilian, and Korean coded, Syrenka the celebrity mermaid from the first one being Polish coded (Syrenka is Polish for mermaid), the goldfish who wears lipstick talks like Zsa Zsa Gabor, so Hungarian-coded, and Magic of Pegasus being Dutch coded. So it's not that odd to be honest.
    What I don't get:
    How about the fact that Christie, Kira, Lea, and Kayla never appeared in any movie.
    Summer was portrayed as American in Dreamhouse even though she's Australian.
    Blaine never appeared in the 2000s Barbie movies even though Ken wasn't with Barbie for a while. It was Ken in the movies.
    In Mariposa, the mermaids had valley girl accents too.
    Where is Princess and the Popstar set? Pauper was in England, but Popstar isn't. Amelia mentions her grandma meeting the king of Spain, and the general apperance reminds me of Monaco, so I feel like Meribella is probably their version of Monaco. Which means Princess Charm School may be France, because the universe is clearly shared, with the flower being called a gardenia, the fact that you can see background princesses from the school in the ballroom, including Josette. But how can it be france when Blair's surname is the very English Willows?
    Why is it that Barbie in Spy Squad all of the sudden has stage fright? Mattel did that around the same time with Lagoona in Great Scarrier Reef, giving a brave character stage fright that never existed.
    Renee being full Asian yet having a white British aunt, she can't be bilogically related to her.
    How about Diamond Castle? Where is it set? It looks like stereotypical medieval Europe, like France or Gemany, yet the muses are clearly Greek, as they wear togas. And in the book, prior to Lydia becoming evil, she wears a toga as well, also implying she was actually good in the book, but the movie has her in her maroon witch getup, even when "good".
    Raquelle only had red hair in Diaries, in all future appearances she had black hair. And what happened to Dawn and Raegan? She never had lackeys after that movie.

    For me, the most confusing thing about the Barbie universe was the use of Barbie’s friends as other “actors”, like Teresa, Tia, Courtney, Raquelle, and especially Blaine. A lot of times, certain characters that looked the same would have interchangeable actors that wouldn’t make sense across different movies they featured in. As for Blaine, it’s unclear as to whether or not earlier Barbie movie male protagonists were Ken or Blaine because of the whole Barbie breaking up with Ken stunt by Mattel.

    • @finland4ever55
      @finland4ever55 Год назад +6

      It was Ken. The barbie movies wiki confirms they are Ken, blaine never appeared. Tia and Courtney aren't actresses, they are one movie normal friends

    As a kid, I didn't like Mariposa because I liked "Barbie's normal voice." I wonder if that was part of the reason it was changed in the 2nd movie.

  • @indigogo5699
    @indigogo5699 Год назад +23

    I always assumed that even fi they don't start that way anymore, most movies still are Barbie just telling the story to a younger sister, which would explain in-universe why some names get repeated: Barbie is just recycling names haha.
    The biggest WTF moment for me was the ending of the first Fairytopia. Elina was able to save the day because she wasn't affected by the curse because she was different to all the other fairies. The message of the movie is that being different is okay. And then her reward a the end of the movie is to get wings and be like everyone else. If the curse is placed again, she would fall like everyone else...

    I like how in the films Fashion Fairy and A Fairy Secret, they portray Barbie as an actress and all of the other movies as just the movies she simply was cast on. This would make perfect sense why many characters for each movie look the same because they are simply actors being recast for another film.
    I also love the detail in Fashion Fairytale where Barbie's face looks so similar to those Mermaidtale and Three Musketeers since those films were briefly mentioned in that film. This suggests that those three films are indeed in the same universe.

    not sure if this counts but it bugs me too much... WHY IS RO A PRINCESS??? they had this big thing where the king began to accept that antonio was in love with the 'island girl' and not luciana... and then a few seconds later, it is revealed that ro's a princess???
    i know it's in the title but i hate it so much. 😭😭

    A question I have is how the characters from Barbie Pearl Princess and Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2 are related. At the end of the Pearl Princess, there's a painting in the castle that features the ambassadors from the Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2 movie.

    Random video suggestion but maybe you can do ranking barbie voice actors like you did with bratz. And you can include the actors from life in the dream house and the barbie RUclips channel.

    Why no villains dolls

    • @finland4ever55
      @finland4ever55 Год назад +1

      We did get villain dolls. Malucia from Secret Door, Patricia from Spy Squad, and Raquelle being a mainline doll, but Raquelle and Patricia redeemed themselves so maybe they don't count. Probably because the villains are usually old people in their like 50s, or animals. But we had several young attractive ones like Eris, Laverna, Henna, and Marlo
