- The LEGO Technic Ferrari 488 GTE AF Corse #51 set number 42125 is, aesthetically, a phenomenal set. Even though it does have plenty of stickers, it still looks incredible for display! It immediately stands out from your shelf and it serves as a good conversation starter! However, is LEGO Technic heading in the right direction with their focus towards more display sets? Many fans, including myself, would like more focus on technical mechanisms, like gearboxes and such! I definitely wish that this set had a gearbox, but, I guess I can modify it myself.

Usually I hate when people complain about gearboxes but i gotta agree here. They spent to much on stickers and left the car with a empty chassis. The empty chassis weakens the car’s stability. They shouldve either made the stability better or add a gearbox

I usually look at technic car videos and they seem very flimsy, like it bends when you pick it up, while my Land Rover chassis is sturdy and full of gears and it’s a tank, gearboxes add the necessity of sturdiness so the gears don’t wobble around and mess with functionality, so yes, gearboxes mean more sturdy and pleasant to the touch builds.
The higher rear end is a real world element on most racing cars called "Rake" so it's not a mistake just so you are aware

the real ferrari 488 corse doesn't have openable front "trunk" since it is a race car and the openings there are actually connected to the engine and are there help cool the engine and also are there for the aerodynamics and airflow.
We in Germany know this car as an Opel Tigra. All the Stickers still doesn't make it a Ferrari.

The cada set looks impressive! So much love and details in that set. Compared to the cada set, this Lego Ferrari looks like a bad joke.
Now that’s a lot of stickers, but the end aesthetic looks really unique!

I can't stand those headlights. Honestly, the whole model is crap. You can bend it and it has basically NO functionality worth the price. Even the doors are simply falling open when you tilt it a little.
For 180€ you get a CaDa set which is a plagiat, but a masterpiece in terms of looks and technical features.
Lego should go back and take a look on the TECHNIK sets they sold before the app era.

Back in the 90s you get more legos for less money, today you get less legos for more money.

These piston motors are looking so much better than the stupid one of the blue car from the previous review
These pistons are actually connected to the spinning axle but those other ones are just being pushed up and pulled down by gravity
To be fair the other blue car you’re talking about is much smaller so that’s really the only option. Better than nothing
It's nice to see a positive review to this set. Sadly many people (especially in the german community) hate this set. That's because a german RUclipsr with over 600.000 subscribers made a video on this set which got over 1.000.000 views and he hated everything. His community went to all the other youtubers that made positive videos on this set and hated them. But luckily in the Lego community's outside of germany the opinions aren't as extreme. Not everyone likes it but the people stay calm. That's very nice.

I'm half way through it and don't understand all the negativity surrounding it, I'm enjoying building it so far and it looks cool.

now im definitely gonna get this set ! in my country , the Porsche is more expensive 849.90 MYR ( Malaysian Ringgit ) , while the Ferrari is around 799.90 MYR .

The dodge charger has pretty much all the functionality of this set and is only 60 quid compared to 130

@@Unbrickme agreed that it already costs more than the Porsche 911; they should cost the same, in my opinion. But if they set the price at $170 US dollars already, adding a working transmission would have raised cost even more.

It’s smaller than the Chiron. Chiron is 1:8 scale, this is 1:10
Do you think that the price will drop over next 2 years, because I think it is over priced. Although I am a Ferrari fan, but I think I will probably get it in a year time when the price drops
While lego will not drop the price, I do believe that in about 6 months or so you can save like $30 if you buy it on bricklink

The big holes are to increase downforce in the front section of the car :) Aerodynamics..
I really didn’t think of that, thanks for letting me know :) I’ve never seen a real life car with such holes before, I always thought that just the hood, and the rest of the car, was just shaped to have the air push the car down, so that it has better traction

Try to buy it second hand. It's Jan 7th just after Christmas so there should be a lot of unwanted Christmas gifts up for sale. I've found them as low as 80€ (98$)

I’m skipping this set for sure. Everything about the previous Porsche 911 RSR was so much better. The Porsche had brick headlights, better wheels, didn’t sit as high as this, no giant space underneath, $20 cheaper, and a cleaner design.
The overall proportions of this car are more realistic to the real counterpart than the Porsche rsr. The Porsche was a little too long proportionally to the real car.
Air going in the front grill is blown out the hole on top of the hood to add downforce. Like a Front spoiler. The real car has that lager opening too

Real version of the car has that hole in the hood for aerodynamic purposes and it’s a race car and it would not have an opening front trunk or any storage spaces

When they announced this one I was super excited tyo complement the Porsche 911 RSR but honestly seeing it in pictures and now in review really dissapointed me. It seems sloppy, structurally weak, just basic funbctions. and the Ferrari license just ups the price.
Honestly the Ferrari F8 for speed chaampions looks way better (and yes, it's system and much smaller) with just 278 pieces.
I got it because I thought it would look cool next to the Porsche rsr which I have.
Half way through it and have to say, I'm quite impressed so far.
@@davidravenscroft1641 yeah, there's some weird angles on camera but I played with a completed one and it looks great in person.
It definitely looks better in the flesh.
Also have to say that I seem to be one of a very few who actually enjoys the amount of stickers it has,I think they look cool.
I will lower the suspension though.

In real life, the trunk of the ferrari doesnt open, because its an tuned version (by ferrari itselfe) where the trunk has no other funktion than aerodynamic flow and engine coolingsystem.

I have seen and listened to various videos on this set. It must be quite a challenge for Lego designers to try and satisfy various desires.
In one video, the complaint was that if it had a gearbox, you wont see it because you build over it. Sets with gearboxes are usually more expensive.
Regarding the stickers. This looks like a rally car. Rallies cost money. The stickers show the sponsors for the rally.
I dont mind stickers on the car. As the car is used for rallies, the suspension looks good enough. Also on a rally you dont want a low car to go over bumps, hills, through water.
In conclusion.i.think the set.has been well designed. Also it's a Ferrari, which means you pay for the name.
It isn't a car for rally, it's a car for race track, suspensions are totally wrong in this set, It looks like a suv.
The real car also as stickers - if someone doesent like the sticker you just dont put them on.. so you have the choice

So why complain at the 42111 Dom's Dodge Charger for the lack of "technic" and its heavy price tag, but this set is even worse in my opinion.
Both are Lego-racers and not Technic. But like I said In other videos I might just not be the targeted group anymore. Because I don't like display sets.
Korbinian Stapfer this set compensates in some ways. Like, I already made a full RC mod of this set due to the empty space. I’ll make a video about it soon :)

Land Rover defender is awesome! For only $20 more than the Ferrari you get so much more playability and it’s got a 4 speed gearbox with high and low setting
