  • Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
    Lectionary: 37 and 38
    At the Mass - Reading I
    Is 50:4-7
    The Lord GOD has given me
    a well-trained tongue,
    that I might know how to speak to the weary
    a word that will rouse them.
    Morning after morning
    he opens my ear that I may hear;
    and I have not rebelled,
    have not turned back.
    I gave my back to those who beat me,
    my cheeks to those who plucked my beard;
    my face I did not shield
    from buffets and spitting.
    The Lord GOD is my help,
    therefore I am not disgraced;
    I have set my face like flint,
    knowing that I shall not be put to shame.
    Responsorial Psalm
    22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24
    R. (2a) My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
    All who see me scoff at me;
    they mock me with parted lips, they wag their heads:
    “He relied on the LORD; let him deliver him,
    let him rescue him, if he loves him.”
    R. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
    Indeed, many dogs surround me,
    a pack of evildoers closes in upon me;
    They have pierced my hands and my feet;
    I can count all my bones.
    R. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
    They divide my garments among them,
    and for my vesture they cast lots.
    But you, O LORD, be not far from me;
    O my help, hasten to aid me.
    R. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
    I will proclaim your name to my brethren;
    in the midst of the assembly I will praise you:
    “You who fear the LORD, praise him;
    all you descendants of Jacob, give glory to him;
    revere him, all you descendants of Israel!”
    R. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
    Reading II
    Phil 2:6-11
    Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God,
    did not regard equality with God
    something to be grasped.
    Rather, he emptied himself,
    taking the form of a slave,
    coming in human likeness;
    and found human in appearance,
    he humbled himself,
    becoming obedient to the point of death,
    even death on a cross.
    Because of this, God greatly exalted him
    and bestowed on him the name
    which is above every name,
    that at the name of Jesus
    every knee should bend,
    of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
    and every tongue confess that
    Jesus Christ is Lord,
    to the glory of God the Father.
    Verse before the Gospel
    Phil 2:8-9
    Christ became obedient to the point of death,
    even death on a cross.
    Because of this, God greatly exalted him
    and bestowed on him the name which is above every name.
    Gospel
    Mk 14:1-15:47
    The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread
    were to take place in two days’ time.
    So the chief priests and the scribes were seeking a way
    to arrest him by treachery and put him to death.
    They said, “Not during the festival,
    for fear that there may be a riot among the people. . .

    Someone has to address the darkness around us. Someone has to be truthful and not just please whatever people want to hear! Thank you Father , blessings to you and all the good priests worldwide!

    I'm in Charlotte and listen to your homilies. Last week was dark, but it's the reality of today's cesspool of evil.Then, today's Passion, is as dark as it can get. People want fluff. We left a parish as founding members after 35 years because all that was preached was fluff. Your message today is on point. God Bless you Father.

    I think your homily last week was spot on. For teenagers and children it can promote a family discussion at home. My frustration with the Catholic Church, is often related to the fact that the present day issues are not addressed. Your homily is a reminder of why evil exists, and that the only solution to that evil is in Jesus Christ. Thank you.

    If you weren’t this Spirit filled in your homilies, I would have stopped listening to them long ago. I truly thank you

In order to learn from history we have to discuss it in order for our children and our future generations to know how to survive. Do not cover up or erase it! 😢 Thank you Father! What is killing Catholics is refusing to listen to the Truth. Unfortunately, some of our priests are preaching to please.
    Fr Mark, thank you for telling it as it is.

    Father Mark keep speaking the truth. That person who said you shouldn't mention adultery and murder......this is the type of parishioner who hates to hear the truth and as such they are not to be given the time of day. Your homilies are powerful and they're powerful because you don't compromise on the truth, even if it upsets some people even if it makes them angry. That parishioner who complained needed to look at themselves and ask why the truth triggered them. They needed to turn their focus inwards not outwards

    Great homily, because Father Mark has the responsibility of each of his parishioners immortal Souls, and to be faithful to his Priesthood he has to tell it like it is, especially if you've ever been in a dire situation watching a loved one on their deathbed begging for a Priest for their last confession in ICU. Praise God, the Priest on duty arrived on Christmas day and she past within hours at peace.❤ Thank you for your Priesthood, Father Mark!

    Agree that you need to speak about the darkness. Because so many people believe that everything is OK or ignore the darkness, hoping it will go away. Your harmonies are fantastic and very insightful.

    We live in a culture of "only pleasantries please." In doing so, we bury history along with the truth. Perhaps its because we want to rely solely on our own free will and not the power of God to strengthen us. To redeem us. How can we be there for others this way? Only weddings, no funerals. Only smiles, no tears. The cross, but no Jesus on it.

    It's easy to criticize....Your "Sin Makes Us Beastly" sermon was not inappropriate in any way - I have saved it, as a matter of fact - one of the many powerful homilies you've given. People need to hear this - we can't run away from it - that's exactly what the evil one wants! Keep doing what you're doing - please - don't pull any punches... God Bless You, young saint!

    Father Mark, please continue with the way you speak the truth directly. We need to hear to truth. Let's pray that God opens the heart and ears of this person to receive the truth which is "the reality of today's cesspool of evil" as said in @humilityavirtue.
