- ** I have (finally!) figured out how to load my custom Prophet 600 patches onto a SysEx file. Anyone interested in the file can contact me by email, found in the “about” section of my Channel Profile. Thanks! **
The Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 is incredibly versatile! This one was made in about 1983, and features the GliGli mod.
All sounds in the video were programmed by me and performed live, in the spirit of the big keyboard tones of the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Viewable in HD.

By the way, I’m using the GliGli 2.10 third release. This was the final version GliGli did. Highly recommended! It has a number of great features not found on earlier versions including transpose, the best sequencer and arpeggiator interface, a 22k filter limiter which smooths out the sound, and a “spread” function mimicking the response of analog envelopes.
The songs you are quoting in the video - excellent taste in music. We must be about the same age.
5:55 really nails that Wendy Carlos Moog sound. A lot of great patches here.
Excellent playing. The P600 is one of my favorite synths of all time.
Thanks! The P600 sure is a capable instrument, it’s fun to mine the potential.
Outstanding demo! The 600 with a GliGli is a proper beast; unique, but firmly a member of one of the best synthesizer families to ever grace the Earth.
Thank you! Yes it is!
Great to find another Zelda fan over here...
The best P600 demo I have ever heard! Great playing and patch design from the mysterious man behind the beige curtain.
Thank you for the great demo. I had two of these in the 80's and created some monster stereo sounds recording to tape. The first midi synth I believe.
I love the Righteous Pads and texture on the 600. Rich and Warm.
hitting that Ocarina of Time forest melody was a nice surprise
sounds juicy😍😍thanks for this good demonstration !
as incredible it seems, i have a P5 rev4 and it sounds straighter and less organic..
the brass at 4:18min is 💥💥💥💥
Nice to hear a bit of early Genesis!
Wonderful playing, what a great sounding instrument too!
Awesome! Many thanks!
Love it man thanks for the feed back on the mod this is easily the best prophet 600 video on here amazing job with programming you should definitely sell the presets man or do programming tutorial.
I had one of these- fat and analogue for days!
Led Zeppelin, Biggie, Zelda, The Cars, Wham! Etc… great demo
Great playing of great songs with great sounds! Great!
Thank you! I will be making another Prophet 600 video soon!
My gligli arrives today yay now please share some patches with us.
Nice Genesis sounds👍
Hey, you forgot The Police, "Spirits in the Material World." Good job, I' sold on the chip. I will make sure i get the latest version.
prophet 600❤️
Amazing Sounds!
great work!~!
Pro-800 dreams.
Great patches, Would you be interested in making them available for download?
I finally figured out how back up the custom patches to SysEx file. Send me an email if you’re interested!
I feel like my gligli 600 needs some work because it has never sounded even close to this good.
Can you turn of the gligli off if you want?
Great video , what external effects are you using ?
Thank you! The external effects used in the video are a Moog Minifooger analog delay and a Demeter RV-1 Real Spring Reverb.
wow I need these patches, does it cost me a lot?
How’d you get the wham type sound?
The Wham patch is basically very simple. I think it was originally done on a Roland Juno 60.
Check out the video of Tommy Eyre playing “Everything She Wants” on two Juno 60’s with Wham in China, 1984
The basic patch replicated on the Prophet 600:
Set both oscillators to sawtooth and slightly detune.
Keyboard on "full"
Filter cutoff 3
Resonance 4 (may be different on yours)
Envelope Amount 10
Filter Attack 0
Filter Decay 6 (may be different for you)
Filter Sustain 0
Filter release 0
Amp attack 0
Amp Decay 0
Amp sustain 10
Amp release 0
That's it for the basic sound...
However, I also added triangle wave to both oscillators to fatten things up.
And, the GliGli mod allows for a negative envelope on the Poly Mod. If you set the Poly Mod Destination to the Filter, and tune the Source to a slight negative setting, you'll get a tone that starts slightly below pitch and rapidly ramps up to the regular tone. It's a technique I learned from an old Steve Porcaro video, he called it the "blip". I have it set very subtle, and I think you need the GliGli mod to do it.
Amazing! Thanks for the detailed response. My 600 has gligli, i’ll give that a shot! Always been my favorite wham tune :-)
How does it stack up against the prophet 6 after the mod?
The Prophet 600 and Prophet 6 are both excellent synthesizers. They share a lot of common ground, and with careful programming can be made to sound quite similar for many patches. Unlike the P600, the Prophet 6 has a sub oscillator, noise, very snappy envelopes, onboard effects, and a keyboard with velocity and aftertouch. Only 49 keys on the P6 is a major limitation to me, probably my only complaint. So, the P6 has more features. Soundwise, the core tendency of the P600 is warmer, strings sounds are silkier on the P600, and 70's type vintage tones, just a little more convincing. Brass pads are lush. I found it's easier to get bell sounds, basses and dynamic brasses on the Prophet 6, no doubt due to its very responsive envelopes.
Thanks you for the feedback brother much obliged
Wonderfull! Is it worth to do the GliGli update? Like your sounds,. Where did you get them?
The GliGli upgrade is absolutely a good idea. The improved envelopes and other features really help the Prophet 600 come alive.
I made all the sounds you hear in the video from scratch. Many of them would not be possible without the GliGli features.
@@tomloncaric6189 Thanx! Love your sounds!
It basically double the sonic capabilities of the synth, costs
@@seanm5369 Hi and thanx! Do you have a link to the pre-built Teensy?
@@989fred No problem. Yes - here is one from SynthChaser. Enjoy!
