Especially THAT MUCH MONEY. Canadians pay taxes for our (supposedly) elected leaders to take care of and maintain Canada. We need a CONTRACT for OUR NEXT LEADER. The TOP DEMAND will be that the *Canadian People's Tax Payer money will be spent solely on Canadians.* If other countries can't afford to have a war they should not have one.

I own a business, and I was audited last year. The numbers came out to be accurate to what was originally submitted, but it cost me $2000 to pay my accountant to deal with the whole thing for me. So CRA wasted our tax dollars for me to waste my own money.

In 2017 I was audited for claiming my son who had seizures as a medical dependent. I was paying for his medications, numerous trips to see Neurologists in Alberta as we live in Northeastern BC. It was a nightmare, when they "reassessed" me in 2017 they went back to 2015 and not only did they take away my claim to my son being medically dependent on me they pulled back my northern living allowance even though I have owned and lived in my house for over twenty years.
I went from getting a three thousand dollar return to getting a ten thousand dollar tax bill.
After hiring an accountant they reinstated my northern living but my three thousand dollar return disappeared and then I had a bill from the accountant.
To be fair my Conservative MP didn't seem to care either.
The media couldn't care less either lol.
Anyway, I now have accountants prepare my taxes every year, more expensive but they have to have your back legally when they prepare your return.

One guy, living in Guelph, was living on 29k a year, he received an inheritance that would have benefitted him greatly, but 2 CRA 'investigators' put him through hell and i think his inheritance was spent on lawyers trying to save him. They have too much to lose by doing it illegally. CRA mistakenly classified an insurance settlement as not just 100% taxable, but 100% owed. I received a 30 day demand notice for the full insurance settlement.
It was years of a nightmare to get sorted out, but I was never able to get the interest and penalties charged on money I didn't owe cleared away. They continue to accrue. I pay CRA $10 a month. When I can.
CRA is putting a second lien on my home, which is the only shrinking safety net I have for future care. Interest and penalties just keep accruing, and I'll be homeless because of them. If I could have afforded a lawyer this wouldn't be happening.

Our accountant explained that she had confirmed with CRA over the phone that our business was entitled as the way it was written left some doubt. The response was:”CRA is not responsible for our employees interpretation. We didn’t have the money to fight it. We had to file for bankruptcy. My husband went into a deep depression. He kept asking, how did this happen? I went to university. Paid my student loans. Pay my bills. Work 80 hours a week. Hired professionals to do my books. I have lost everything. Ya I got screwed.
Last taxes they came up with some BULL that I all of a sudden owed the government 10,000 because of something the father of my kids put on his tax return like 6 years ago.
    Biggest joke?
They won't show or tell me what was put and what it's about.
They just keep saying I was overpaid.
Overpaid for what?????? I asked in writing...I asked over the phone...I put in a claim fighting it ( which was denied)
How do I all if a sudden owe 10 000 when they can't show me proof and the father of my kids is DEAD!!!!!! ( died of cancer 8 years ago)
So there's no way for me to find out...they won't show me where this debt came from and I am now screwed because they keep stealing my returns and anything else they feel like to pay off this fake debt.
    TRUDEAU MUST GO!!!!🤬🤬🤬

Turns out, they didn't take taxes out of my payout, and a few years later, my initial $12k tax bill skyrocketed to $17.5k, and then $38k due to fines and penalties. I live off my VAC disability award, and CRA is taking $1,500/month. Recently, they threatened to seize my assets if I don't pay up in 30 days. I had to hire a lawyer, and I'm ready to fight this all the way.

@@sethalos First off, CRA does not issue fines, only the court does. However under the ITA, arrears interest and penalties would apply. These are tacked on by CRA's computer system and not by the individual Collections officer. Under the ITA, arrears interest are compounded DAILY so any debt can balloon quickly. This is by design so people won't delay paying taxes and divert funds somewhere else. The ITA provisions for taxpayer relief is an avenue you could have explored. As a last resort, ask your MP to mount a campaign for the ITA to be changed.

@@sethalos Under the law, taxpayers are expected to know what their taxes are and pay taxes when due, regardless of any mistakes their employers may have made. This is where due diligence is expected if you ever go to court over the matter.
Imagine a scenario where employers and employees collude to make "mistakes" and thus pay less tax until discovered later. If there are no consequences for the deceit, the scam would be rife, and governments would be short of funds to operate.
