Do the EL84s have more headroom than the EL34s? I'm looking to downsize from my AC50cp2. I love the sound it produces but at 80lbs it has become quite the monster to be moving around from gig to gig. I noticed that my AC50 has EL34s and this AC15 has EL84s Power Tubes. Any clarification will be truly appreciated.
I would say definitely not more headroom. El34's are a higher power tube, and are going to give you more clean headroom before breakup than a 2 el84 amp. If you like early breakup, or that seemless kind of transition from clean in to overdrive with your playing dynamics, a lower power 2-el84 amp might be your thing. The jump from ac50 to ac15 might be a drastic one 😉
I just picked up a ac10c1. I wanted a ac15 but that didn't work out. I have to say this ac10 gets very clean/loud and dirty clean tones. I'm happy with this amp. If need be, i'll mike get up for more volume. Great video awesome tone and many blessing to you and your channel.
Thanks for the vid Bradford, beautiful sounds! I'm someone who needs a great clean amp with reverb/tremolo, does the AC15 make it as far as classic soul sounds are concerned? I'd love a Deluxe Reverb but those are awful pricey.
Great review! What mic are you using, and how do you recommend using a mic with this amp? I have one (except in purple) and I have trouble getting it sounding good with a mic even though the tone coming out of the speaker is killer. Thanks!
Hi, you did mention that this is a great amp to check out for almost any set up of worship music (which I definitely will). What other guitar combo amps can you recommend me for a Gretsch G5422TG Electromatic ?? thank you in advance!
Killer sounding amp and killer beard Bradford! :) Would you say that this amp can run at fairly low volumes but still get good tone and break up from it?
Thanks! Yes. You can. It's 15 watts to begin with. While that's not a whole lot of wattage it can still get loud. But keeping the master lower and pushing the change volume to the sweet spot can get you clean tones with lighter picking and nice break up while digging in!
8:25 omg that sounded so nice. ignoring the video cut, it transitioned nicely into those... volume swells? great noises... than you started yackin again... just when I was enjoying the sounds.
great video but I got just one doubt.. between this AC15C1 n' the AC10C1...which one sounds better.. I mean which sounds warmer , cleaner n more defined? I'll appreciate someone reply me ..t-you =)
I have owned this amp AC15C1 for three years and play it every day. The larger speaker and cab can produce a fuller tone a little more open sounding and with more bass. The AC10C1 which I've only played in the store sounds a little bit more thin sounding like a practice amp to my ears. The AC15 also has tremolo which is a great classic effect and another channel- the normal channel which in my opinion takes higher gain pedals better than the chimey top boost channel which I use for everything else. I bought a JHS Pedals ABY box and can foot switch between the top boost and normal and the Y setting channel jumps both channels at once for an even added texture. Oh yeah, the reverb and tremolo are on/off foot switchable (not included) but Vox makes em. The stock pedal is a little large for my pedalboard so I made my own in a smaller 1590B enclosure (same size as an MXR pedal) and even sell them on eBay. Hit me up if you want one.
Can you not use overdrive on this amp without a pedal? I just bought this amp today and I'm very happy with the clean sound it gives but I'm pretty annoyed that there's no overdrive built in the amp or at least a way to make it sound more heavy metal when you wanna get down and dirty.
I agree. I personally like the normal better too. Although, Brian May may not be your best case study since he smashes the front end with a treble booster anyways lol.
+xchump Top boost sound is the one that made the AC30 famous for, 90% of Vox users stuck with the Top Boost channel and its natural creamy saturation (classic vox sound), Brian's Red Special although he uses bridge and middle pickups in series most of the time still sounds more like a beefier stratocaster than a regular humbucker guitar, hence normal channel + treble booster gives a much better result. I'd go for the normal channel with single coils, and top boost with HBs if you plan to use the Vox in a traditional way, if you have a thin treble booster like the Rangemaster you should be fine in the normal channel with HBs also.
I love your playin :) its good to be reminded time to time that there are other music in this world than what i play and music truly universal when you play it from your heart i learned somethin new today and i thank you for that . Nice amp for shure keep em comming.....
NOS tube 12AX7 needed in V1 on this amp mandatory change, I also did a V2 tungsol reissue and V3 JJ and changed the power tubes to JJ.....then it kills.....put an OCD or Soulfood in front of the normal channel with a touch of delay.....magic. Change the reverb tank to MOD.....seriously boutique like amp will not disappoint!
Cool, thanks for the info. I have heard that they usually don't take pedals very well. From what I have read I think it comes down to how the settings are set on the amp and the taste in tone.
From what I've gathered, AC15 is plenty for most stages. Though I'd say you should go try one out for yourself and see how loud you can play before they kick you out of the store
I just wish this amp and the blues junior came with an FX loop version, they seriously need it for those of us who exclusively use this amp as a pedal platform.
I find its only when playing high gain from the amp I want an effects loops. If your gain comes from your pedals you are fine without an fx loop. Just make sure your drive is first in the chain.
Edgar Sanchez no you can’t, it’s For Electric Guitar only. If you want Something for two signals look for Acoustic Guitar Amps because they usually also have a Mic input
So I need some help, I have recently been useing my vox ac 15 and I am having trouble getting a warmer darker sound, I know the amp is bright but since many worship songs require a darker warmer sound I am trying to find that, any tips?
Yeah I know, don't remember whether you were using a pedal or crank the amp for the overdrive, cause I never had luck with delays in front with the amp in distortion
Since 2010 vox has made 4 non hand wired ac15 amps. Ac15c1 or ac15c2, which denotes if the amp has 1 or 2 celestion green speakers. And the ac15c1x or ac15c2x which denotes that the greenbacks are upgraded to celestion alnico blue back speakers. Cheers.
Honestly, I own this amp, and find myself reverting back to my Marshall dsl40cr which I got used for the slightly more. I understand the allure of the chime that people talk about, but I feel that may be more of a hardwire or ac30. Otherwise, I feel like this amp is not as dynamic nor as versatile as others talk about.
How long have you used the amp for? Have you changed out any of the tubes? Is the speaker broken in yet? So many factors. But the ac15 is definitely super dynamic. It maybe doesn't favor high gain as much as the marshall, but it can handle almost any genre apart from insane high gain stuff
@@ymjerimloaiciga552 I bought the ac15 used so it was broken in a little, the last owner changed the tubes, and I kept it for about 6 months. I later sold it and got a good deal on a used ac30cc2 which is so much better. I think if you have the extra bucks just get the ac30, and I get it may not be the best for apartment players, but even at low levels the ac30 is so much superior.
i understand. but we do these videos for our subscribers who have questions. we field all those in other videos and means of media and try to cover them this way. they want to know what they're buying. we try to cut back on the talking when we can tho. thanks!
I love the use an 808, a notoriously bad match for this amp, and the subsequent, "you can see how well this amp gets along with a Tubescreamer" statement. With this amount of investment in gear, this should have sounded infinitely better.
Willem Culpepper Vox amps are predicated on midrange tones, quick to overdrive and compress. The tubescreamer produces a pronounced midrange push, along with heavy doses of compression. Spend any amount of time researching this circuit and what pedals are a good match tonally and EQ-wise for these amps, and indefinitely you find that the two do not meld well at all. Almost across the board, anyone who has owned one of these amps for any amount of time will tell you that less colored overdrives (I hate this word, but “transparent”), boosts, treble boosters, and neutral sounding drives work infinitely better with this circuit than a TS.
Vox AC15C1 is a great amp, solid and quality. Blues Junior on the other hand, may sound good, but is not quality, reliable or solid. It needs a lot of work to be that and the money it takes to make it solid is about as much as the amp is worth. But there will be a lot of arguing about that, but just ask any reliable tech and they will clue you in. To each their own. I'd really like an fx loop on the Vox as I use a looper and it works best after the preamp. Maybe someday they will make a version of it that way.
It all comes down to British sound vs American sound. Both are great, I play tele's almost exclusively but I prefer a Tele with a Vox any day of the week. I find fender amps sacrifice low end.
I need to start doing videos myself. I'll call them, "sound Like Worship Tutorials Without Busting the Bank." Leave it to worship guys to make a basic rock tone cost twice what it needs to.
Well this is an amp that can be found for about $350 used. Which is why we reviewed it - to show what you can do with a more budget friendly option. The guitar is my personal telecaster that I play. I'd love to review a Squier Classic Vibe tele or Fender MIM tele - I just don't have one.
+Worship Tutorials I'm just busting ya'lls chops. The consistency that my worship friends have too end, boutique gear is really funny. It's a good channel, good info and I'm a subscriber. Take care!
not only is the amp on the cheaper end, the pickups in the guitar are not even $200. We recommend Porters. Highly. And they don't bust the bank either, as you put it. Thats not even $600 for the sound you hear in this video, my friend!
Pump yer breaks cheif...your OD is double the price of a an actual Tubescreamer and your $200 pups are in a guitar that starts a $1500. I'm probably in the neighborhood for price around $250 for the delay, but I didn't see one on Reverb. I was wiling to let it go, but seriously. A MIM Tele an $80 TS Mini and MXR Carbon Copy get nearly identical tones and that's A LOT cheaper than the FULL rig you're using...I was going to let it go...
In a guitar/amp demonstration vid that is 10 and a half minutes in length, there should be more than 90-ish seconds of guitar sounds coming from the amp speakers. Less talk, more rock, fellas. Also, the reviewer should have WAAAAAAAAAY less time on the screen than the product being reviewed. I hate to be a troll but this vid did nothing to demonstrate the amp.
Hey look at that. It’s back when real amps were still a thing. Haha you guys should bring back some real amps to your videos so we can all try to remember what it’s like as a reference.
Not really sure what we are demoing here.... spent as much time promoting different pedals and pick ups. Would have preferred no pedals and a few "standard" guitars. No question, amp sounds nice, but it comes across as "it sounds great with this guitar and these pedals". I want amp, plain and simple....
Man, if I'm watching a review of an amp with reverb and tremolo, I'd really rather hear the reverb and tremolo in the amp, not reverb and delay and drive pedals. Demo the pedals in a separate vid.
+Franklin T For the VoiceLive pedal? The contest ended a while ago - the winner was a guy named Joel. I haven't made an announcement about it, though. I'm planning to do more giveaways in the future.
+vetacoth that's completely different. This is a strictly "worship tutorial" RUclips channel, so in a worship setting you don't want a real overdrive beefy chord that has no clarity, cuz it's gonna muck up the mix. Check out any good worship guitarist during a big chorus playing big chords, you'll see the bridge pickup.
He just completely reminds me of the main character from the movie "Ferris Bueller's day off". So I could not concentrate on the rest of the aspects of his video. Sorry guy's.
Little did I know, almost a year after I first watched this video, I would have the same amp and its great!
This amp is great. Turned the volume on max and my nose started bleeding and I instantly got cancer

A very vintage sounding amp, I can hear that classic sound of so many old rock songs in this amp .
I am interested in buying one of these for worship, but I also play some hard rock in a band setting and wondering if this amp would keep up?
Your tone is always on point sir 👍

Have you tried it with a Rangemaster-style germanium treble booster?
What pedals are good for it distortion, delay, chorus or all
what's the main difference between this one and the ac15 VR one?

I want amp, plain and simple....
kneel 0001 amen
Man, if I'm watching a review of an amp with reverb and tremolo, I'd really rather hear the reverb and tremolo in the amp, not reverb and delay and drive pedals. Demo the pedals in a separate vid.
we did that in the beginning of the video as well. we are showing a wide range of its capabilities as our subscribes look for in our videos!
Kinda reminds me of jimmy eat world
I liked the first vid better, "I didn't need to say all that". :)
Haha! You caught my editing mistake :)
+Worship Tutorials Ha! What happend for the giveaway?
+Franklin T For the VoiceLive pedal? The contest ended a while ago - the winner was a guy named Joel. I haven't made an announcement about it, though. I'm planning to do more giveaways in the future.
+Worship Tutorials Ok, I was expecting a announcement. Thanks for the reply.
Never use the neck pickup with overdrive use the bridge pickup
Tell that to Peter Green or Jimi Hendrix. Maybe Stevie Ray Vaughan while you're at it.
+Yo Peppy what are you talking about? The video title states that this is a review of an ac15. It doesn't matter what the channel is called.
If the neck pickup sounds good with drive, why not use it? If it sounds good, it is good :)
+Yo Peppy what the hell is "worship music"? Sounds like some Islamic religious shit.
He just completely reminds me of the main character from the movie "Ferris Bueller's day off". So I could not concentrate on the rest of the aspects of his video. Sorry guy's.
PeterDad60 ...you mean Ferris Beuller?
Few lousy chords and whole Opera Springer talkshow?!?
We only use lousy chords in worship music. It's how we roll. All other reviews have lousy picking and we can't hear the tonal qualities of the amp.
vox and tube screamers are no go!!!..too much midrange together...try hotcake, timmy or sweet honey..much better dude(:
