It was the intent. Gotta change it up every once in a while to keep you guys on your toes.
I have seen people grow amazing things watering by hand, but 90%+ of people are not that disciplined and determined. Myself included. When you garden in the desert, automated water makes your life so much easier. You have to still keep an eye on it, leaks happen, or sometimes things get clogged. But keeping an eye on it is a lot less effort than hauling out a hose every morning/evening for hours.
I tried to water my fruit trees by hand was taking a couple of hours of my day. I have about 70 trees. I setup an independent system just for the fruit trees with a wifi timer. It makes gardening so much more enjoyable.
As someone that has done both and still hand water he's absolutely right the easiest and best looking plants are drip. When I hand water though I make sure to use a flow meter to know exactly how many gallons per 10 seconds my hose gives

Can you make a video on the solar system 12 volt irrigation systems?
I'd be interested in learning more about battery or solar timer setup. I don't want to plug in anything or hardwire anything. Currently use hose timers for everything

I found that the hose timers that connect directly to the hose valve connecting 1/2 poly tubing. No wires and easy.

I just DIY'd my five drip irrigation zones. The material costs alone was $500+ because I bought stuff I didn't need, some pressure regulators and couplers leaked. One one of my zones is automated since it's connected to my irrigation system. Another one has a digital Galcon timer I've programmed and the rest I manually run. But it saves so much time watering my 60+ plants. No worry about water run off and waste. Still making tweaks and adjustments with the emitters.
500 is still better than a few thousand paying someone else. The plus side is now you know exactly where your lines are located and how to fix them.

You mentioned that you use a 25 psi pressure reducer. Is that the largest you would recommend? I think I read a few years ago that 35 PSI was a good size to get, but you are an actual expert user and installer, so I would be interested as to why you chose the 25 over the 35, even on a 3/4 main line.
yes 25 seems to be the happy medium. You can do 35psi no problem. Just keep in mind, the higher the pressure, the more wear and tear of your lines.
@@qctropicals I think I will go with the 25. Hopefully that is sufficient to push water through an occasional 1/4 inch spaghetti line to an emitter 3 feet up. I have heard 18" to 24" is the recommended maximum spaghetti length.

They require 1/8 inch tubing right?
yes 1/8 tubing. I buy all my stuff from dripdepot.com . I don't use them in ground because they stick up and easy to step on them.

@@richdc27 just get the gray ones, that's what I use. I believe they;re 3.4 gph great for container plants.
Great video. I love those spot spitters! While not adjustable, they are cheap, perform well, and don't seem to clog much. Are you now using a 1/8" Barbed Connector to connect them to the main tube or still sometimes punching the spaghetti line directly into the main line? I think I've seen you do both but wonder if maybe the barbs are better to avoid potential leaks. Thanks!
I'll be honest I didn't know you could punch the lines directly into the main lines with 1/8 tubing until about 6 months ago. I always used 1/8 couplings and punched them in that way like 1/4 lines. I've been experimenting recently just sticking the lines without couplings and so far they work well and saves time. Long term, I'm not sure yet. I do get some leaks with the couplings, no way to avoid that so there is that.
Can you recommend where to get the spot spitters in the US. Are they only for containers or can you use them for trees in the ground and garden beds?
@@richdc27 I've been using them for both applications. Yes; you can get them online from Drip Depot or Drip Works. Just type the "spot spitters" into the search box on one of these websites. Note: these take 1/8" tubing and not 1/4" so chances are you'll need to buy 1/8" micro line online as it is uncommon and not available at the big box stores
I have a question for you. In my experience, the water runs out super hot during the day in the AZsummers. I’m worried that it kills the shallow roots of my plant, so I usually just run it in the early morning. Any thoughts?
Have you messed with motorized ball valves? Would like to know which ones are the best.
Im about 70% complete in converting my systems to Opensprinkler running on Raspberry Pi's controlling motorized ball valve's. Im on a well and solenoid valves cause too much drag. They decrease my flow rate too much (38%). I went with US Solid motorized ball valves, but I doubt they'll last more than 2 or 3 years. Would like to know which ones are the most reliable.
Are there drip irrigation systems that are solar-powered? Does drip irrigation run your water bill up? These are just a couple questions about a great concept IMHO.
There are solar ones or cheap ones that use batteries that last 6 months and you water bill should be cheaper because no water is wasted unless you have been under watering the whole time and finally properly water then the bill will rise as plants grow
Do you use 4-gallon flag drippers for your trees? Along the drip line, how far apart do you space your drippers?
not 100% strict to the drip line rule but yes. Usually space them out a few inches.
Can you tell us the p/n of the flag drippers?
