Cheers, thanks for sharing. How come your rasberries don't send their underground shoots all over your plot? My autumn bliss was sprawling allover the other beds.

I do have the same issue with my raspberries however in order to contain them I dig up the side shots and put them in pots and give them away or re-plant them. There a few videos on my channel about growing raspberries but you might find this one interesting; ruclips.net/video/h6PtYJSXFfc/видео.html

Regarding the french beans, when do you think it's ideal to plant them out (I've heard they're not quite cold tolerant) if I'm in South England?

Thank you for your comment. I will be starting mine indoors as the weather is still
a little cold to plant them directly outside the UK. I would wait until until about mid May before thinking about planting directly outside. I hope this helps and kind regards. Gary

Just as I was starting to make some progress getting the raised beds ready, they announce a period of frost and snow...
Guess I'll just watch gardening videos for the next few days while sowing seeds in trays...

Yes, I know the weather goes from one extreme to another. Last week we had temperatures of nearly 20 degrees C this week we are at freezing or below!
Watching videos and sowing seeds is a good idea and enjoyable, so not all bad. Thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated. Kind regards. Gary

I bought my compost this year from B&Q but I’ve been making my own for the last few years and I’m hoping to be self sufficient in the future with regards to compost.
There are a couple of videos on my channel showing how I make my compost so scroll through the library if you want to watch them.

You have a lovely allotment, I just 5 hexagonal raised beds, and I think I have over shopped for seeds! lol and a very small space to grow them, I love watching your videos, keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for your comment and I’m pleased you enjoy my videos.
I know what you mean about shopping for seeds, even with my large allotment I struggle for space with everything I grow and I know a lot of people who watch the channel will relate to that.
Even with limited space there is still plenty of lovely veg you can grow and I’m sure you make the most of your raised beds. Kind regards. Gary

Great video..can I ask if your Polyhouse is heated? I sowed some lettuce and some brassicas seeds yesterday and I’ve put them in my unheated greenhouse.presently it’s in early 20’s during the day..but I also have a cold frame which doesn’t get as warm. Wondered which might be preferable.

    • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen

Hi Gail and thank you very much for your comment. I'm pleased you liked the video.
I do not have any heating in my polyhouse. Veg like lettuce and brassicas do not require any major heat to germinate, in fact the seedlings you can see in the video germinated in the unheated polyhouse. Obviously, the warmer it is the quicker they will germinate but then main thing is that they will grow.
Veg such as tomatoes, peppers etc will need warmer temperatures of 20-25 degrees Celsius to germinate so they will be no good starting in an unheated space. I've got my peppers and tomatoes in a heated propagator and will move them to the polyhouse when the temperature starts to increase.
I would tend to keep them in the greenhouse for now if you have the space.
I hope this helps and kind regards Gary

Are they autumn or summer raspberries

    • @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen
      @TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen  2 года назад +1

To be honest I'm not sure, I think they are a combination of both. I was gifted them from a previous allotment holder who couldn't tell me which variety they were. I usually get a good crop in July followed by a later crop in August which is why I think they are both summer and autumn varieties. Kind regards Gary

    • @mandysplottoplate9410

@@TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen I think they must be summer ones. I just asking cos autumn ones you cut back to ground in autumn and winter. Mine are autumn and only start fruiting from late august to November. Summer fruiting ones you just cut off last years growth leave the newest canes as they produce the fruit the following year.

@@mandysplottoplate9410 I cut some of mine right back in early February down to the ground and some were from new growth from last year which is why I think they are mixed.
