His guitar did not have 7 strings. It's a shadow in the photo. Every photo was known to be taken after he restrung his 6 string gibson lol. He was known to break many a string. He played that thing as if it were an eletric 🎸 😅 he was way ahead of his time. Lightyears. Imagine Jimi hendrix dropped into the 1930s. Thats exactly who Rob was lol. A genius like Jimi....way ahead of his time. He was also a ladies man lol who slept with a many married ladies. He died because he was a blues man lol aka a good looking talented fella who chased alot of tail and chased the wrong fox into thw wrong hoke on the wrong night man. He was. A creative genius. We creatives and bluesmen and women. We often get ourselves into trouble 😆 is this his guitar probably not. There is another bluesman in NOLA who is said tk have the original and of course its known to be haunted. Does that guy have Rob's guitar...probably not. I think Robs guitar is long gone. Rob's soul and legend lives on. We blues folks...we are a mysterious magical bunch.

Robert Johnsen indeed owned a kalamazoo KG-14. The KG-14 started production in late 1936. It is widely accepted that his main guitar before the Kalamazoo was a 1927/1928 Gibson L-1, although I highly doubt it is the particular guitar the dude in the video is holding.
(EDIT): I just realized that the statement that it is wildly accepted that RJ main guitar was a Gibson L-1 is from a Gibson marketing blurb to sell the 2012 “Robert Jonson Signature” L-1. I doubt if this is historic fact.

Robert used Stella guitars and a Kalamazoo KG14 according to Johnny Shines who traveled with him,not to mention during one of two recording sessions in Texas he was arrested for vagrancy and whatever guitar he had with him was destroyed by the police,so one was borrowed for that session. Perhaps the Gibson was borrowed as it only appears in the Hook Brothers photo taken in Memphis (the one where he is wearing the pinstripe suit). The two other known photographs both indicate a Kalamazoo.

The logo on Robert Johnson’s guitar was in diagonal angle. There’s great possibility that that guitar was a pro guitar from the photo studio. Some say he always played kalamazoo’s and Stellas. And also nobody knows what guitar he was using on his first recording session, because, the police supposedly broke his guitar the night before the session. I doubt that's his guitar because he had 7 strings but I'm so glad we have his recordings to this day. His music is amazing comparing it to modern rock. I love his story and the legend behind it.

The L1 didn’t come with 7 strings. The one everyone is referring to is a different guitar.
