    /* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
    Ok so the penultimate episode of Rings Of Power Season 1 has just released and throughout this video we're gonna be breaking it down, pointing out all of the lord of the rings easter eggs and giving our review on the episode as a whole. Episode 7 ends with the awakening of a Balrog as well as a 1990s text reveal that confirms The Southlands are now Mordor.
    The Balrog has the exact same design as it does in the Peter Jackson movies and though there were many designs of them in the source material and lore they've leaned into that.
    Now it's said in the original trilogy that the dwarves unearthed the Balrog because they dug too deeply and hastily into the mines when trying to unearth more Mithril. However Balrogs at beasts that have been around for a long time and they ended up joining Melkor in the unrecorded times.
    They originally lived in Utumno but they ended up fleeing after the Wars for Sake Of The Elves and from here they travelled to Angband where they hibernated until the Years Of The Tree.
    After Ungoliant destroyed them the spider turned on Morgoth and he screamed to the point that it woke the Balrogs up. They go through this constant state of either being awake or hibernating however there is no mention of them during the second age which is where the show predominantly takes place. The show changes the timeline a lot and whereas the Balrog awakens here it wasn't until the third age where the one in Khazadum rose up. We've talked about this on other breakdowns and how it wasn't until Durin the Fourth was King that the first one attacked. This Balrog ended up killing him however I think for the show that it will kill his father and then he will take up the mantle. This will still allow it to have the nickname Durins Bane even though the characters and events have been swapped around.

    So my only issue with the pacing criticisms is how much Tolkien fans BEGGED for longer content. Its one of the continuing criticisms of PJs series is that it cuts out too much. Now we have a show that is absolutely showing the importance of dialogue and world building, and folks are upset that its not getting to the juicy bits more quickly.

    • @mizzlchieizzl
      @mizzlchieizzl Год назад +1

      I'll agree with you that the series does a good job of having the time for dialogue. I do feel for the pacing criticism though. Like Galadriel's discussion about Celeborn. She said he was dead. And 30 seconds later, well, we just never heard back from him. Whereas other scenes that we were emotionally connected, like Isil's fireman scene, like, they see it fall, then we see them miles away (maybe?) and ... did they look for people to help? Did they just assume he's dead? Something happened offscreen and it's never discussed until the horse runs off and we guess Berek will find Isil. It starts and ends well enough, but the time taken in discussions that don't move forward then feels like it stole from the moments we want to see? Idk if that makes sense. I generally love the show but there is a lot of disconnect and I personally think it could be improved with a few things here and there.

    • @wolfmauler
      @wolfmauler Год назад

      The dialogue is a morass of inane, pseudo intellectual, wannabe poetic drivel, that either makes zero sense, has zero context, or contradicts the speakers actions and/or story arc. There have been several episodes that absolutely nothing happens. Episode 4? Nothing...
      Episode 5? Zero..
      Nothing except excruciating, drawn out scenes, with wooden dialogue going over and over the lame, lore flouting excuse for plot.
      The world building is virtually non existent, with time, space, distance treated like a children's play, people teleporting all over the place, even the "Harfoots" unable to root the actors into the environment in an organic, believable way. The show makes the world feel extremely small.

    In the Lord of the Rings films, Bill being sent away and told he will find his way home makes a lot more sense when you know how it happened in the books, with Gandalf essentially putting a spell on Bill so he gets back safely.
    "You will have to choose between Bill and your master.’ (Gandalf)
    ‘He’d follow Mr. Frodo into a dragon’s den, if I led him,’ protested Sam. ‘It’d be nothing short of murder to turn him loose with all these wolves about.’
    ‘It will be short of murder, I hope,’ said Gandalf. He laid his hand on the pony’s head, and spoke in a low voice. ‘Go with words of guard and guiding on you,’ he said. ‘You area wise beast, and have learned much in Rivendell. Make your ways to places where you can find grass, and so come in time to Elrond’s house, or wherever you wish to go. There, Sam! He might indeed be Sauron (the showrunners want us to believe so i think), and going to the elves as Galadriel's friend might be a clever way to gain their trust; however it's also possible that he is good and he might get to meet the real Sauron at Lindon and this way also get a ring of power and slowly become one of the nazguls (which would be another tragic loss inflicted to Galadriel by Sauron).

    I’m honestly trying to enjoy the show, so I’ve decided to stop thinking of the show as a work of Tolkien and to view it as a world separate from the books.
    By doing this, I was becoming really emotionally involved in this episode. I was so glad to finally be experiencing Galadriel’s transformative character arc, because her acting like a Karen was truly making the show hard to watch.
    Unfortunately-like the last episode, I was into it until the end and then the writing messed it up for me again. This time it was how the Harfoots decided to go look for the meteor man. I understand Nori and Poppy going, but the others all thinking it’s a good idea was so implausible. Harfoots/hobbits are terrified of danger, and they are going to chase down the guy being followed by the evil people who just burned down their village. What? I think the writers were doing such a good job with the Harfoots until this decision. Tolkien’s races all act in unique ways, and I don’t think the writers understand this concept.
    Next, Isildur goes missing and his dad, Elendil, just left him for dead without looking for him, not wanting to stay and insisting that they return to Numenor. Then, clearly heartbroken, he leaves a horse to find him. What? Sorry funny writing.
    Then, right after that, Halbrand is seriously injured and they decide to take him to elven healers, and Halbrand jumps on a horse and gallops away like he’s totally fine. What?
    These three little things at the end, happening one after another snapped me out of the mood. I really wish Amazon gets better writer for the next four seasons, because I really want to enjoy this show. Wish you all the best 🙏

    I loved this episode, and the text "Southland" -> "Mordor" was really cool. Each to their own 🙂
    Personally I like it when this series takes it slow. They focus on character chemistry etc. They take their time explaining things.
    Ppl nowadays are so impatient, because we are used to fast paces and instant reactions on social media and in games. Ppl aren't used to series' telling a story in a slow way.
    I am loving this 🙂 The visuals are amazing. Galadriel's horse galloping on the shore, and the slow motion was beautiful etc. And in my opinion it resembled her being mentally in a cage for a very long time, encaged by her rage. Cantering on the beach gave her a glimpse of long lost freedom.

      I just thought I'd leave a positive comment, because seemed like all the other comments were about how ppl disliked the episode. Which is fine, ofc. Would be horrible if everyone like the same things.
      I am glad we even have a series focusing on a world of elves, dwarves etc. I'm not looking at it as a work of Tolkien, or as a prequel of LoTR. (Because THEN I would be disappointed). I embraced early on an attitude, that this is just an independent show, which is about a fantasy world which I sometimes very much need and long for 🙂
      There are no interesting movies in theatres at the moment, and no interesting series' except for House of the Dragons. So Rings of Power is all that the tv offers at the moment, and it is so much better than nothing.

      They need to change much in the coming seasons including pace, dialogue & more importantly, focusing in on the right characters
      Celebrimbor is the most important character in forging the Rings of Power and he’s been relegated to basically an afterthought so far.
      Elrond, Gil Galad, Elendil and Isildur need more screen-time as they were the ones leading the fight against Sauron in the 2nd Age.

As a Tolkien fan, I know that they have strayed very far from the original source and I know I should be mad about it like every other fan of the lore, but somehow each episode still pulls me in. The whole Celeborn being dead really took me by surprise. I didn't see that coming. But reading the comments here gives me hope that he, in fact, might just be missing. Yeah and that scene where the name of the Southlands was changed to Mordor was really cheesy. I would have preferred if they just left that scene out and let us, the viewers, presume that it would henceforth be known as Mordor. It's pretty self-explanatory at this point so they really didn't have to do that.

I would have loved to worked on this just to see the scale of it on a daily basis. The army of people involved for the costumes department , prosthetics, hair , makeup , props and ADs just to get the amount of background performers ready to shoot. I actually really enjoy the story and the show in general. This episode was super revealing and entertaining. Most people don't enjoy the little things in a story but this show gives it to us. We see the characters develop, active world-building, a diverse cast, pretty accurate storytelling minus a few picks, and beautiful scenery with amazing clothing, weapons, and armor. As for the pacing of the story. How often in your life do things progress quickly in the grand scheme of a lifelong adventure? They truly don't, even with quick moments. This whole season so far not only built up the world we don't fully understand during the second age but, it also gave us every detail and small moment for us to fully immerse ourselves in the world. It's a full dive into a DnD campaign without constant instant gratification. People expect to see big things happen right away without proper storytelling and detail but, that's just a result of our world now everyone wants instant gratification without being patient to understand the depth of the story. This show has depth, development, you name it. Now of course it's not perfect but, for what we get access to this show is exciting and dope. As seasons further progress people will look back and realize this was an amazing show. Flaws and all.

      They're already alluding the Numeor falling and playing with their fall thousands of years early. The timeline for this show is bad, it's treating 2 thousand years of history as if it happened in a few months.

      You might know this already but the balrog earns the name of “Durin’s Bane” for a pretty specific reason. And picking this specific mountain for the show to be where mithril is found, they have to use that Balrog for this show, maybe next season since they already signed on for more seasons, but they have to use it or else they’ll get a bunch of negative feedback on what could have been.

    I enjoyed this episode. Lots of good character moments, and the slower parts you seem to dislike allowed for some good character development, especially for Galadriel, who has seen the error of her ways. Elrond and Durin are the stars of the show and shine (like Mithril) in this chapter.. love 'em. There IS a lot to cover in the final instalment though, many loose threads.

    Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I could not disagree with yours more when it comes to this show. Everyone that I know that is watching this show seems to be on the same page as me as well, and many of us are watching the episodes independent from each other, then talking about them after the fact. I am A Song of Ice and Fire book reader that loved first 4 seasons of GoT, but felt like it dramatically declined after that, yet know many others who loved the whole thing. I feel like I am finally on the other side of that table now, having never read LotR or any of its extensions, and only watching the movies and now show. I absolutely have been loving this show, but have no source material to compare it to. Crazy how divided the opinions have been on this show though.

It will probably come across as critical but I do think that if you spend your time assessing the cinematic shots etc. you going to lose the fun as you're not letting yourself escape into a fantasy world.

    The sexual tension between Halbrand and Galadriel has been building through the show. So Galadriel smashing the canon to bits by saying Celebron is dead means we’re probably gonna see why that intimacy coach was hired in the first place. If/when that happens, it will be an absolute disgrace, along with all the canon destroying things they’ve done already. This is pure vandalisation of Tolkien!
