Things to note as well: The crouching throw is unbreakable! If you get counter-hit by 4,3, it is guaranteed and he will go in heat and you will eat like 40-50 damage. The b+4,2,1/b+4,2,1+2 (tackle grab) pseudo mix-up can be countered by a ducking jab or universal crouching kick (typically d/b+4) Also never try to challenge the b+4,2 ... stuff with a standing launcher, if the Dragunov reads you (or gets lucky) and gets a b+4,2,1 and a counterhit on the last hit, you'll get hit by massive guaranteed damage due to the stagger effect of the counterhit. The ff2~1+2 (grab feint) can be a little tricky to duck-punish on reaction, he can also cancel it so keep that in mind, use swift attacks and not slow/sluggish attacks that might end up getting you punished Regarding qcb+2; Try to find a move that has a LOT of horizontal reach, Bryan's b4 or f+4,1 , Jin's and Kazuya's ff+2, you get the idea. A lot of the time it will catch Drag's qcb+2! Also, some other common qcb+2 set-ups that I like to use and work far too often are: (On normal hit) U/f+3. (If you're aggressive and on block) B1+2. If Dragunov is [-1;-3], he can also try to qcb+2, beware of that, it is like a cheap Yoshimitsu flash, in the sense that some people use it in the craziest of circumstances. Also, if a move of yours leaves him in a crouching position, he can also qcb+2. | Edit: There is also f2,4 on block, respect him after that! After a blocked qcf+1, the most common set-up for Dragunov's to use is to sidestep to the right and throw out a d/f+2, a lot of people jab-check qcf+1 on block, so the sidestep will beat the jab and you will get launched by the d/f+2. Remember to stay patient after blocking qcf+1! The full-crouch 1,4 will get mixed with sneak 2 (qcf+2), whilst it is very punishable, it will very heavily track when you sidestep right, it is very hard to sidestep it properly, so beware of that. Good Dragunov players will not always spam the axe kick! Speaking of good Dragunov players, if a Dragunov player is good, they will often not rely on these knowledge-check-y strings and rather try to get you with good timing for a juicy counter-hit launcher on WR+2 (which is death sentence for the receiving person) or thouroughly planned pressure. They will also adapt if you will adapt because once you counter Dragunov and his set-ups well, the Dragunov will have to find new ways to "trick" you basically. For example, if he knows you are going to step to the left at medium range because of the seemingly impending WR+2, he might throw out a ff+3 for HUGE damane, it is a very strong homing kick (though a high). Once you start ducking the kick, he might start with the WR+2s again, it basically starts becoming a pseudo mix-up again. These are just some things I wanted to share as a long-time Dragunov main! Amazing tutorial too, of course! ^^
This is more of a general thing - all the throws against crouching opponents so far in Tekken 8 are unbreakable. You really don't want to get caught by a crouch throw.
I actually primarily run in to "The Mix" and was looking to see if there was a tip for that, because I've been stunlocked just blocking that for ages. Nice little SSR tip. I'll implement that. TA :)
thank you man! the mix section of the video is really mind boggling that you can just side step that! been encountering players always using that freaking move. yeah like the comment below said, please make a hworang counter guide, having trouble as well with the spammers button mashers of hwoarang.
Sometimes knowing the answer is conditioning itself. For example, the reason drags like to qcb2 after d2 on hit is because it's -1. Most of my opponents think it's plus, so they don't even try to contest it. But if they knew it was minus, only then does the qcb2 setup work. Basically, it's good your opponent knows the matchup. Gotta find a creative way to punish them for their match-up knowledge
Bro these are some of the best counter guides for T8 I've seen yet! So glad I found you man
i appreciate it dude, means alot!
