Donny Osmond looks back on his most iconic songs with his brothers and as a solo artist in Gold's new Hall of Fame special.
Donny remembers the stories behind his most famous songs - both as a solo artist and as part of The Osmonds with his brothers.
The songs include 'Puppy Love', 'Love Me for a Reason', 'Crazy Horses' and 'The Twelfth of Never'.
Donny recalls how Ozzy Osbourne thought 'Crazy Horses' was one of the greatest rock songs of all time, how he improvised a funny moment for his Mulan track for Disney, and how he had a jovial rivalry with Michael Jackson when they were both kids.

I love that he always sings in his interviews. I don’t think I’ve ever watched an interview with him and he didn’t sing. It’s awesome to watch him because you know how much he loves to sing and entertain audiences. Last but not least, Joseph is one of my favorite cast albums to listen to. He truly has one of the best voices to grace the American stage. Thanks again Donny, for all the years of first class entertainment you have provided us.
When Joseph came to Detroit, I bought tickets 🎟 just to see Donny. But my timing⏰️ was off and Domny was sick so was not performing. Oh woe‼️. He did, however, come out and waved to everyone.
The older Osmond brothers had been recording a few years and had had success on the country charts before Donny joined the group. Donny was largely responsible for their crossover success to pop. One of his brothers said in an interview that Donny’s voice had this “little cry” note that went straight to the hearts of teen girls. As someone who was a 12 year old girl, I can attest to that. 😅 In 1978, I asked a department store Santa for Donny Osmond. 🤦🏻♀️

I knew it instantly too!! The same way I knew that Donny was the Peacock on Masked Singer instantly. My friend and I were watching and I said, " That's Donny!!" She asked how I "knew". I said when you listened to him day after day growing up, you KNOW that voice!

I’ve been loving all your music and your families songs! Went to your taping of Donny and Marie Show in Orem. My girlfriend and I were able to go,as our were husbands tending our little ones. It was the taping with Andy Gibb. We even got to sit by your wonderful father, George. A great memory in our young lives!! 👍🏻

When I was a lil girl @ Xmas time I just kept praying pls let me b able to go see Donny Osmond in concert! But they didn't come in my area, was so bummed!! Used to sit in my bedrm, hairbrush in hand as my microphone, my record player with a mirror I some how put in the top part when it was open & my 45 records, singing Go Away lil Girl, Puppy Love over & over! My brother would bang on the wall & yell is the record stuck! I'm sick of listening to the same songs! Put on a diff record! Then Marie came out w Paper Roses, . Loved that song also! Listened to all their songs but them 3 were played countless times, as I sang into the hairbrush to the mirror! Oh so seriously!Seems like yest! Always love seeing Donny thru out the yrs. Watched the Donny &Marie show faithfully.Then they had a talk show when older I would watch to see them. Glad to know he's well & happy! Would still go to see him today if I could !!!

Michael was wrong. One Bad Apple was actually written for THE OSMONDS. Mike Curb met up with me in Nashville around 2008, we went backstage to visit Donny and that exact topic came up. Mike Curb said Producer Rick Hall had a songwriter on the FAME Recording Studio payroll named George Jackson. Mike Curb and Rick Hall went to see The Osmond Brothers (until the changed their name) in Vegas in 1970. As soon as Rick Hall could find a payphone he called his staff writer, George Jackson to write a song that sounded like The Jackson 5's song ABC. I spoke with Rick Hall's son who sent me a recording from the studio The Osmonds recorded OBA (including the original mic) stating that is a true story, I then spoke with the original BASS player on OBA, Mr. Bob Wray who was friends with George Jackson who said George told him that OBA was written for The Osmonds and lastly, I spoke with Grammy Award Winner Writer Rob Bowman who knew George Jackson and he also said George Jackson did admit OBA was in fact written for THE OSMONDS, and that's the rest of the story.... Donny's great! Couple of quibbles - 'Puppy Love' _was_ his biggest song in the UK. 'Love Me for a Reason' was a hit in 1974 not '73.
There a few videos on YT of people watching the video and hearing One Bad Apple for the first time. Every one of them are astounded at how much Donny sounds like Michael. “Hold up, hold up. Am I crazy, or does that little dude sound just like Michael Jackson?” 😂

Donny and his brothers did videos for The Proud One album, which came after Love Me For A Reason.
For years I have been trying to explain to people how "Go Away Little Girl" was Donny's biggest hit. I purchased that single but did not purchase "Puppy Love".
When he was the Peacock and no one knew who it was--all they knew that guy had depth and the whole package, dance, swagger--then when it was revealed it was Donny you had to admit he was a real talented star--and he was elderly by then!
