    Very first 9mm gun I ever shot was a friend's registered Vector Arms UZI.
    It was great! More accurate than I expected. We both scored nice groups in bursts, but especially semi auto.

    Regardless of personal taste, the UZI is still one of the sexiest submachineguns ever designed.
    It's got a great rate of fire as well, and it's incredibly reliable in harsh conditions and environments.
    I like the Mac-10 but that thing is an absolute bullet hose.

    After firing over 4,000 rounds through a Full Auto Uzi I can honestly say I have never had an issue with the grip safety, yes its a bit annoying and it does take some getting used to, however at 100m on full auto you can place all 32 round (in a 32 round mag of course) on center mass of a silhouette target if you have the practice and it does not take much. The one must for owning an Uzi is using/having a can/suppressor, it really does help make the Uzi a whole lot more controllable and it still feels rather comfortable if not a bit on the heavy side. I still prefer an Uzi to an MP5 or even a Mac-10.

      I'm the opposite. I like the Mac series overall. Cheap to build, very compact, and I like the wire pull stock vs the Uzi stock. I think the only time the MAC fails is when weak mag springs are used which can't keep up with the lulzy rate of fire. I like the high rate of fire because you use it like a semi auto and you fire several shots per pull of the trigger.

    I'll concede that the UZI is overrated, but you have to keep in mind it was designed by a 20 something year old man with little to no gun designing experience for a year old country. Comparing it to the MP5, which is over a decade and a half newer, or even the MP40 is a bit unfair.

      You can not over rate the Uzi because it has proven itself in combat during the Six day war in Israel. This was designed just after WW2 . The MP5 could have been designed with the help of the newest technology that could help in the design of weapons and other proven firearm technology that have been evolved and proven in the field. Yet the Uzi is still a reliable small arms combat firearm. It can equal or even better in performance other sub machine pistols in combat. If a 10 german soldiers armed with Mp5s will combat with 10 Israeli soldiers armed also with Uzis, do you think the germans will win because they are using MP5s?

    • @herrcobblermachen
      @herrcobblermachen 4 года назад +3

      The concept is the ability to produce it in your own country vs relying on importing weapons from other places. This is useful for when they blockade your ports, set up arms embargoes etc. So how then do we mass produce this weapon with minor firearms production experience and semi skilled labour? You make it simple. That simplicity is going to be a godsend sometimes, and will come with a cost at others. To some degree we might as well be talking about comparing a Thompson to a Sten. However, a comparison to an MP40 may be fair enough.

  • @timlee5260

    The gun is heavy, but it’s solid. The stamped receiver is much thicker than a AK so that adds to the durability. Recoil is light and the accuracy is fine for what it’s designed to do.

    The grip safety does not (cannot) "drag on the bottom of the bolt". Nowhere in the action does the grip safety even touch the bolt. It simply moves a sear blocking appendage that prevents the sear from moving downward when the safety is not disengaged.

    • @ipodhty
      @ipodhty 5 лет назад +1

      But the sear is ratcheting? So the sear if pressed up can drag against the bolt

    • @ralphbryant4575
      @ralphbryant4575 2 года назад +1

      The sear does not ratchet, simply pivots on the sear pin. You cannot "press the sear up" on an Uzi either. The trigger mechanism simply pulls the sear downward to disengage it from the sear tabs on the bolt. The trigger mechanism holds the bolt "down" consistently in full-auto mode and disengages and then reengages the bolt with each pull of the trigger in semi-auto mode. The sear spring is what actually moves the sear back in contact with the bolt, but it lacks enough force or pressure against the bolt to cause any malfunction. That is something purposely incorporated into the design by Gal.

    For those complaining about the weight, it's like the AK-47. It is a tank designed for use in the desert with sand blowing and all that crap. Here is the thing about weight. The UZI is heavy enough that it stays stable. You can fire it from the hip in semi auto and find your target. Plus you can break it completely down for cleaning by removing one pin on the lower receiver assembly the same as the AR-15. It would cost a fortune to make today plus it's fires a pistol round. Lots of things make it unusable by today's standards but I love the thing.

  • @jamesp739
    @jamesp739 11 месяцев назад +1

    The grip safety is there for a reason and that is to prevent firing from an accidental set-back of the bolt. Learn to grip the UZI properly and you won't have any problems. Open your shooting hand then depress the grip safety with the web of your hand. Once the safety is depressed, wrap your fingers around the grip. My advise is to keep the grip safety operational.

    I have one that's semi auto with the 16" barrel. It shoots great and can hit the chest of a man sized target with standard irons at 100 yards. For tight close quarters work 15-20 yards you can hit post it note size targets in a staggered triangular pattern set up.
    Kinda like stand facing away from the target buzzer goes off and turn engage and 1,2,3 place your shots in each post it note.
    Repeat this for 5 sessions it's really quite fun to shoot. Run her wet and she'll keep going bang. I personally like the UZI, glad I

    You mean "overhanging" bolt rather than "telescoping". Part of the mass of the bolt is forward of the breech with the bolt fully forward. This reduces the gun's length by just that much. The secrets to success with an Uzi are to handle it so much that it becomes a part of you, use short bursts, and forget the sights.

    I agree with you the grip safety is a pain in the ass but you're wrong about the grip safety putting pressure on the bolt. If you remove the lower and look at the grip safety it moves forward and rearward not up and down. The only thing that comes in contact with the bolt is the sear. I speak from experience I have a full auto UZI. As far as underrated I don't agree with that statement either. UZiI's are built like tanks and will run forever with very few parts needing to be replaced.

    You should be able to rig that magazine L bracket so the mags always face forward, otherwise it can bugger things up when you go to fold and unfold the stock. If you are trying to get machinegunners trained up on a budget, you can rig different thickness spacers in behind the buffer spring holder thingy (I forget what it is called) to shorten the bolt travel a little bit, thus tuning the cycle rate to match whatever belt fed you want your guys trained up on, and thus they get in tuned with the trigger and gun cycle harmonics at that cycle rate.

      But beware shortening the buffer spring / bolt travel too much with over-thick buffer pads because doing so can cause malfunction in feeding and ejection. Adding a thicker buffer pad effectively compresses the buffer (or "recoil") spring and too thick of a pad can prevent the bolt travel reward to the point the bolt malfunctions due to over-tension and lack of travel ability in the spring itself, in other words the coils of the spring can "bottom out" against themselves.

    Uzi same as many other military hardware products can thank for its fame to fact that its main user army achieved so much while having it in service. Many below average performing weapons achieved great fame since their performance was boosted by great logistic, well trained men and other high performance weapons that supported them during operations. Basically Israelis could have been equiped with PPS41s instead of Uzi and their performance would degrade little, if at all. My opinion, dont hate.

      ITmage The issue being that for every PPS41 they could make 2 Uzi's. One of the Uzi's biggest strengths was how fast they could make them with few major tools. The PPS-43 would give it a run for it's money but the weak bullet would be outclasses by the 9mm.

    • @ITmage
      @ITmage 9 лет назад

      brainplay Actually PPS41 is so dirt cheap to produce that you can make them in garage if you have couple tons heavy press. Over 8 millions were produced in total, during and after WW2, and Uzi demands alot more tooling than PPS41. PPS43 is even more simplified agreed there. Also TT is not weak by any standards, its penetrating power is legendary. For the roles that submachine gun is used its great, reason why it went to shadow is fact that it tends to overpenetrate target and remains with high velocity even after leaving the body. Also it was used by Eastern Block, and everything coming from there genuinely has to sux according to propaganda. I mean, shit was thrown on TT back in time when most common pistol caliber was 7,65m that has power of a potato cannon...

    I liked shooting it better than the MP5 because of the lower rate of fire & weight make it easier to shoot. Given that, I would rather have the closed bolt & the telescoping folding stock design of the MP5.

    2:07 - the MP5 does not have a breech block. It fires with a free-moving bolt, just like the Uzi. The term "closed bolt" and "open bolt" has to do with the position of the bolt when the weapon is ready to fire, it has nothing to do with whether or not the bolt locks with the breech.

    That grip safety problem is a myth.
    6years in service. Thousands of rounds. Never a problem.
    You either grip it or not. Uzi problems came from idiots who taped the safety or disabled it.

    BAD ADVICE that can potentially get someone seriously hurt (or seriously killed). Grip safetys are designed just for that reason........ SAFETY........ to be sure you have a good grip on the weapon when the trigger is engaged or if the internal action is jolted (like when dropped) the sear cannot disengage from the bolt in a full auto or striker in a semi auto Uzi causing it to fire one or more rounds. Bypassing, removing, or "tying" one back is EXTREMELY FOOLISH. If someone cannot grip and disengage the grip safety on ANY firearm, they have no business handling one in the first place.

    The grip safety on the UZI smg does not touch the bolt at any time or have any effect on it, so cannot drag on the bolt and impede its movement ? The grip safety ONLY blocks downward movement of the sear, it doesn't even block the trigger, the selector does that when set on safe.
    As for the grip safety on the 1911 ( The best combat pistol ever designed, period. ) This was not J.M.B. ' s idea and was added at the request of the U.S. Cavalry. In 1910, i think.
    The best S.M.G. for combat, use rather than range use is the British Sterling L2A3
    ( Mk 4 ) with its original 34 rnd mag not one of those pointless Sten mag re builds.

    Grip safeties are pretty archaic. I assume it is there as a drop safety due to the open bolt design. I have seen various passive drop safeties in smg's (check out Forgotten Weapons) which are well designed and less obtrusive. It makes sense to carry any open bolt weapon in condition 3. I didn't realize it was quite that heavy also. I thought it was 1-1.5 lbs lighter. Great video and good explanations

    Open bolt fire have higher change of accidental fire caused by accidental bolt release without touch the triger. It does Have higher change of malfunction in sandy environment. I just don't love open bolt fire smg like uzi Thompson sterling etc

    I got to shoot one of these puppies a year ago and, while the grip safety was a pain, I found the rear sight and ammo selection to be far more of a problem. The rear sight is a tiny peep which would be more appropriate on a precision rifle than a SMG, and made sight acquisition awful. As for ammo, the darn things seem to like hot and heavy loads and will gag on lighter loadings. While the recoil was virtually non-existent thanks to the low cyclic rate and open bolt operation, I could easily outshoot it with the MP5 on site. The Uzi is a sexy gun, and a a cool piece of hardware, but it's definitely not without flaws.
