You will learn how to take a Reference Photo and turn it into an Illustration
In this video, I take you through my whole process of painting an illustration based on a reference photo. I find that working from a reference and making a stylized cartoon out of it is one of my favorite ways of studying real life (color, composition, anatomy, expression...) and at the same time add a bit of creativity to it, so I end up with an illustration instead of just a boring study.

How kind and amazing of you, thanks a bunch and great video, a really nice step by step of your process with practical tips, your thought process, and advice, especially on how to not be intimidated by the backgrounds and shading! One of the better tutorials I've seen in a while that actually explains what you're doing, why, and what technology steps to take. Also your brushes seem very natural and perfect for sketching, texture, or a finalized look, I think they're really nice so thanks for sharing with us.
I also have a question - you included "papers" in your pack but how do we use them, import them like brushes or are they a preset or image we have to bring in each time we'd like to use? It'd be wonderful to know, thanks for considering!

Hi Lucas, Quick question, do you use a paper like screen protector on your Ipad? and if so, which one do you recommend?
Is there any video from you, where you show exactly that part what you skipped here? I'm struggling with smudge the digital paintings, illustrations, and I just can't find any help anywhere about it!
Unfortunately not, but in a few months I'll be releasing a full in-depth course that will go into all of these small details, hopefully that will be what you are looking for :)
Can somebody please expand on the meaning of “cleaning up” ? I’m a total beginner and I’m watching this and taking notes but I’m not clear on what clean up exactly means? Other tutorials say that too and I’m confused. TIA and yes Lucas is really good that’s why I’m watching his video but I’m just trying to learn from the experts
Hello Lucy, thank you for watching my videos. The "Cleaning up" means, going through the painting, using simple brush and making the lines nice and "clean" so that when the process of painting starts you know which line to follow.
