  • A simple fix for sagging door hinges on Chevy Tahoes and Trucks. This video shows how I fixed my Tahoe door hinges with washers to prevent the door latch from dragging on the latch pin. This modification was done on my 99 Tahoe but may be applicable to other years of Chevy and GMC trucks. After the modification you will notice the door works smoother and the gaps around the door will line up better too.

    I want to thank you for sharing this! I also have a 1999 bought used in 2011 and it's been saggy for years. I used to do all my own work on cars but now I spend a good deal of time in a wheelchair so this is no longer the case. But if I can get to it sitting up I'll have a go at it. I used a jack to support the door and actually give it a lift which made it easier for the washer to be inserted. I did both front doors and it worked like a charm! Obviously I don't have long term results but the washer has such a large surface area compared to the bushing that I think it will last some time.

    Ive seen them cut the end's off and weld new one's in. How i do it is the bad elongated one's I remove the door and weld the holes up re-drill and put new bushing in it. Then bend the hinge up some to get it just rite. But that for the bad one's. The way you did it is great and as long as there lubed it should last a long time. great fix.

      scottsinfl Thanks for the comment. Looks like I will be keeping this thing for ever so sooner or later I will probably have to do something like what you suggested.

    I'm going to try this this weekend. I've been looking for a video on a fix like this FOREVER! Thanks! I will post on how my fix went.

      Anthony Ruelas I hope it works for you. It worked great on mine. If the hinges and pins are too worn out, it may not work. Let me know if it works. Also it may help to spray a little white Lithium grease on the hinges.

    Just had a door replaced due to an accident. Aftermarket door. Yes this might do it. Will try it. Door is a bit low. Bushings will not fix a low door only a tilted worn door.

      These are great trucks. I recently gave mine to my Father-in-law and it still runs great. I must say the door hinges really suck! The door hinges in my 40 year old Vette are still good. Why such a goof on these, I don't know.

    Replacement pins/bushings only lasted a couple months. Did it again and only lasted a couple days.

    • @10630390
      @10630390  5 лет назад +1

      I used several washers of different thickness to take up nearly all the slack. Put as many as will fit. This fix has worked a very long time for me.

    Ok, how do you replace the pin, when it comes out? Cause I have the same truck, and my pin came all the way out.

    • @10630390
      @10630390  9 лет назад

      Sam White You should be able to drive it back in the same way it came out. Mine had little metal keepers in a groove at the top of the pin. Mine have never fallen out.

    It's from the top pin, you can see the top part of the hinge where the pin sticks out the hole is oval now. I was goin to drill out the top hole and put a bushing in there then put the pin back in. this sounds so much easier. thanks for the video

      It has a 3 piece up front, 2 piece in the back seat floor area and a single one piece in the cargo area all the way in the back. They are nice.

    You should've pulled the truck out so you could've opened the doors all the way. Better view for us. LOL

    Why not fix it the right way and replace the bushings. Putting a band aid on something like that is not a good thing.

      Washers have been working for 100k + miles. Hard to argue with this success.

    Buy a hinge pin and bushing kit for $8.00 and replace them

    • @10630390
      @10630390  9 лет назад

      +John Powers Never looked for a bushing kit. So far my washer fix has worked for over 5 years but if it screws up again, i will look up the bushing kit. Thanks for the comment.

    • @ScrewMaga
      @ScrewMaga 8 лет назад

      The pin and bushing kit doesn't help at all once the pin holes are wallowed out. I've tried them. I will try your washer fix next. I've even thought of drilling out the holes and putting 1/2" carriage bolts in there.

      Thanks for the comment. I can't guarantee that this will fix your truck. Your truck may be in a different condition than mine. All I can say is my truck is going on 17 years old and has 220k miles on it and the washers have worked for a very long time.

    where did you get that dash cover

    • @10630390
      @10630390  8 лет назад

      This dash cover came from a local truck parts and accessory store. I have purchased a dash cover like this one for all the vehicles I have ever owned and they last forever. I got some of them from Discount Auto Parts, (now Advance Auto). Its been a very long time since I bought one so you may have to do a search online to find one. Try LMC Truck or maybe JC Whitney.
