    I always thought it would be cool to see a SFF case with a big ass external radiator setup...love it!

    • @gamertechlive1780
      @gamertechlive1780 2 года назад

      Yeah well by seeing this external rads build.
      I decided to do the same when I found out that my 2x 360mm think rads on my full tower case is not really enough if a 300w GPU is added and since I also added the 2x nvme in the loop.
      It's a full tower but can only fit 2x 360mm the design can fit 7x 120mm fan but there is a clearance problem with a 360mm top and front so I can only do a 360 top, 240 front and 120 rear or 360 top and front.
      I uses 30mm rads (thin) but same issue the fittings will be hitting each other.
      So I have a extra 360mm think rad and will add another one and use it externally like this vid for a separate GPU loop only.

  • @Joh_Lam
    @Joh_Lam 2 года назад +63

    Honestly have been running such a setup for years and have always been wondering why it hasn't been picked up by more youtubers. Everyone is free to build what they want, but for me that's the way to run a watercooled pc. Performance and silence.

    • @dnlzy
      @dnlzy 2 года назад +6

      Because then you lose the compact aspect. And it costs. And it really isn't necessary.
      I am running a 12700k with a 3080 with a single 280 GTS. Completely silence.
      How? When I work only either the GPU or the CPU works - bot not both. When I game, both are working, but the CPU usually doesn't draw more than ~90w - and I use headphones so I don't heart the fans anyway.

    • @Joh_Lam
      @Joh_Lam 2 года назад +9

      @@dnlzy I do agree that you have to distinguish what is objectively necessary and what isn't.
      Compact aspect is not relevant to me, as I don't carry my pc around and the radiator can be placed anywhere, even behind your desk, so it doesn't bother me space wise.
      I'd assume that your cooling liquid in your configuration depending on your room temperature reaches 45-50C or even above. That's not an issue, but I simply prefer it to stay lower with fans spinning slowly, as I don't use headphones all the time. Even with my 3090 under full load my cooling liquid doesn't exceed about 30C and therefore the core stays around 40C which gives a higher boost clock to Nvidia cards. Not much of a difference, but as an enthusiast I don't want a watercooled card with 60C core temp.
      Besides my 10900k being overclocked and I like to keep temps as low as possible as well. But of course you don't need that. Optimizing is just my hobby.

    • @dnlzy
      @dnlzy 2 года назад +5

      @@Joh_Lam I agree about the optimization part, but from my point of view, spending a lot of money (and space) brining the GPU core to 40c when its throttling point is 74c is inefficient - and not optimized.

    • @Aexeq
      @Aexeq 2 года назад +7

      @@dnlzy if water temps are higher, radiators are more efficient. I for example run an A4 H2O with GTS240 + DDC internally and MoRa + D5 externally. At home everything is exceptionally cool, while the GTS is still enough for on the go.

    • @heatnup
      @heatnup 2 года назад +1

      Yeah i think cases like the new da6 xl by streacom make this kind of setup pointless though. You get about the same performance if not exactly the same by using two 280mm radiators on it, its more compact yet has full compatibility. Can't exactly complain about dust though too because you already have to clean your radiator in an external radiator setup.

    • @GGFEvents
      @GGFEvents  2 года назад +11

      Yep. I decided to run the pump from a AC to DC power pack which converts to sata to run the pump. and because the pump is the D5 next. The fans can plug into it. Then with the software I can set it up with a long USB lead for a fan curve via the water temp then remove the cable. But I'm just using a fixed speed as the fans are only 800rpm and super quiet.

    You could probably power a 747 with those fans! Whilst it looks amazing, swapping water tubes in/out every time you move your PC around isn't practical! All that Irn Bru in the tubes will leak everywhere ;-) Alternatively you could lift the top of the case and install a 240mm radiator, watercooling and fans internally, still look good and eliminate the 747 from the design?

  • @gamertechlive1780

    It's a MORA radiator but just a external dock with 2x 360mm rads on each side w/ quick disconnect going to a pci cover g1/4 pass through by alphacool.
    The build is acrylic hard tube but uses soft tube for quick disconnect (modularity purpose).
    And it looks nice 👍 and cools better than the radiator inside the case due to no air restrictions.

    Odd question, but I'm looking to build a similar setup with a Mo-Ra3 external rad and I couldn't find anywhere any info on how much liquid capacity does the Mo-Ra have. Can you tell us how many millilitres of liquid did you use? Would 2L be enough or it requires more ? (given that there is also the reservoir)

  • @paskowitz
    @paskowitz 2 года назад +2

    For people who can't big brain why this setup is a good idea: If you have limited desk space and a custom loop you want to appreciate the aesthetics of... a case with a large amount of radiator capacity or one that you put on the floor is not an option. If you have high wattage components and want a quiet build, a small form factor case is not an option. If you frequently change out components such as your GPU every year and don't want to go through the pain in the ass process of filling and draining an entire loop, neither small form factor or large case are ideal.
    There are numerous benefits to doing an external radiator. Other than the situations above, you now have the option of using pretty much any small form factor case that can fit your base hardware, you can change cases without having to change any cooling hardware outside of a new GPU block and some tubing. Putting the radiator on the floor or off to the side or really anywhere out of your immediate vicinity prevents it from being a practical detriment.
    This really isn't complicated. And if you are skeptical of this approach, just wait a year or two when it becomes even more popular.

    • @paskowitz
      @paskowitz 2 года назад

      @@GGFEvents in some cases they may even be right. However, people who spend a lot of money on top end hardware often want to get the absolute most (performance, temperatures, noise, and aesthetics) out of their hardware. Personally, I don't understand how the basic setup crowd can't see that. By that logic, any custom loop is illogical.

    Awesome build! But suddenly the price of the Mac Studio with 64 GB RAM, 64 Core GPU, 2 TB SSD (5400,- USD) seems absolutely reasonable.. considering the performance, size and power consumption :-P

      @@GGFEvents Woa, crazy.. but that's the price for a crazy good-looking badass cooling system :D. I tried to search for comparable performance numbers, but I didn't find any unfortunately.. :-(

    I've been DYING to go external rad for my Meshilicious. But I've been looking for a proper guide to understand how to power an external pump and fans. Can you please go into details on that if you do an overview?

    I first thought "what's the point?" then thought aww yeah, have 2 radiator setups. 1 for the office, the other for home and just take the pc with you

    Thanks to your videos I pulled the trigger on an Alphacool Supernova 1260mm. It is incomprehensible howgood the cooling performance is even at zero rpm.

    I had almost this exactly setup maybe ten years ago. But using a dimastech nano open bench. And the MORA with 9 fans. Would have loved to have that fan splitter back then.
