Yes, your approach to drawing as the masters once did is inspiring to me. I will definitely give it a go! Thank you for doing these videos. I will draw something like your approach in my spare time. ❤
Thank you for sharing the exercises, I'm excited to give them a try! My usual technique is very slow and these look like they might help me work out some quicker methods for versatility. Your hands and portraits came out really nice.
I love your art style! It’s so breathtaking. The way you sketch, the way you shade, everything is so Beautiful. This may be odd, but your artwork reminds me a lot of the sketch artist for criminals? I think it might the way you can capture the essence of a person in such a small amount of time? Anywho, I really I am happy you share your artwork with us. Thank you!
ah thankyou - that’s so nice. Thats not odd - court room sketching would be a cool job - like when I hang around in coffee shops drawing people but paid 😂 glad you’re enjoying the vids 🙌
In the same time period with similar techniques (both in charcoal and academic oil) also worked Zorn (etching style and the Nordic nudes) and Serov (his famous Chalapin)
You are so amazingly good, one of my favorites now in YT. Did you study arts and where? How long have you been drawing? Your skill level just is brilliant.
@@GreenlifeFin glad you enjoy the videos! I’m self taught - no formal study outside online courses/workshops. I’ve been doing it a little while though - 10+ years with 3-4 years daily practice 😁
@katiemaeveart Wow, that's inspiring, thanks! Your videos are great also because you have a wonderful voice and a very good way of teaching. Pure joy to watch and learn. You should have much more viewers.
Thanks! If I’m at home I usually use my iPad but on the go just my phone - I’ve got a folder of references and master paintings/drawings I have saved and reads for when the inspiration strikes.
@@katiemaeveart thank you so much for your reply! Do you have a video on how you use your basic toolkit? I am not sure how you use the brush for drawing. I have put together a little sketching kit and keep it on me at all times but I keep modifying it, it seems like it’s never good enough.
@@InkNSap not specifically - but I’ll add it to the list 😄 the brush I use for gentle smudging (when the stump or blender is just too much). It’s also good if you’re painting with graphite or charcoal powder, but I don’t do that on the go as it’s way too messy
thankyou! some of my earlier drawings are in charcoal pencil - but I switch to graphite about half way. I have got a sketchbook tour video if you want the detail 😄
@@katiemaeveart It appears that the graphite laydown is more uniform in your sketch book vs what I get with the paper I use. So, I am going to try out the Moleskine notebook. Your values are clear/ distinct were mine are terribly muddled. This destroys a good start. Ofcourse it could be technique. Appreciate your work. Dave
Yes it could be the paper - moleskine paper is smooth so great for smudging on. if your paper has got more tooth it would definitely give a different result. moleskine paper is pricey though and I’m not convinced you wouldn’t get a similar result from another smooth drawing paper - let me know how you get on!
@@katiemaeveart Yes. I did receive and work with a new moleskine sketchbook. It blended nicely on my first go. I also tried butcher paper. The results are more "painting-like" than with rougher paper. Or so it seems.

@@katiemaeveart yes that’s the one I’m talking about. Yes I have drawn with wooden, clutch, and mechanical pencils but never appealed me much. BUT this style of yours is fantastic. I need more of this. Simple videos with lots of beautifully drawn practice sketches.
I love how you were practicing drawing hands just to avoid a hand on the portrait whatsoever. Same, girl XD
Haha - I had all the intentions - it just looked weird 😂 (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it)
@@katiemaeveart if I may, I wanted to write good call on the hand. It would have tampered with the balance in the composition

when doing the first sketch, the continuous line drawing, are using any image as a reference?

John Singer Sargent 😄 I realise I’d not mentioned his name in the comments - will add that now! Thanks!

newsprint is good with Pierre noire or charcoal pencils - but quite thin and smooth so doesn’t work so well with vine charcoal or pencil
what shade is the pencil? 6b? thanks
It’s a blackwing pencil in Matte. I would say closest comparison is a 4b pencil 😃

What kind of eraser is this? I can't seem to find one of these tools that use a really tiny eraser like a lot of people have.
It’s a tombow mono zero eraser - really great for precise erasing 👍
As a note to her reply: There's also a similar model by Faber Castell. I'm from the EU and sometimes Japanese stationery is hard to come by.
