    Hugh Jackman was in it because he played Peter Allen, the singer/songwriter of I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME in the Broadway musical THE BOY FROM OZ. Peter went to America early in his career and married Liza Minnelli (Judy Garland's daughter) in Hollywood. He wrote songs that made Olivia Newton John famous like I HONESTLY LOVE YOU. Anyway, the whole thing was an advert for Qantas and they have used that song on many many occasions for their productions of commercials for their brand. If you looked on YT you would find other versions from different years.

    It is an anthem. Qantas has use Peter Allen’s song I Still Call Australia Home for 30years just about. he wrote and performed it in 1980 its a song that we hold dear to our hearts and we always tear up when we hear it especially when they played it on a Qantas plane coming back from overseas. So proud to be an Aussie.. 😊🥰🇦🇺

    This commercial features several well known Aussies. Entertainers, sports people, olympians etc. Yes Hugh Jackman is an Aussie.
    We have several pink lakes in Australia. The pink comes from a particular rare type of algae. Is safe to swim in.
    This song has been used in Qantas ads for many years. It’s constantly being updated but the song remains the same
    Written by Aussie entertainer Peter Allen. RIP
    If you are a true Aussie, it will always bring a tear to your eye.

    There is a strain of algae called Dunalilla salina, that lives in some salt Australian lakes, when sunlight hits it, it produces a chemical called carotene which gives off a red/pink colour. Perfectly harmless and safe to swim in.

    • @roslynjonsson2383
      @roslynjonsson2383 2 года назад +2

      Thats not quite correct m8....we have an island just off the coast of Esperance WA, that's shut off from the public because the water is so acidic that your skin peels off within minutes, and the whole island is closed to the public. NOT ALL pink lakes are safe to swim in

    • @kirk5152
      @kirk5152 2 года назад +2

      Whilst a lake with a high acidity level might be harmful, Carotene does not peel the skin. Nor does it raise the acidity level of water.
      I did not say that every Lake with Carotene in it safe to swim in, I said the chemical that makes the water pink is safe to swim in. A crocodile in a Pink Lake would certainly make it unsafe. But the chemical it self that makes the water pink, actually helps maintain good skin health. And ingestion of carotene (which is in carrots btw) is good for blood pressure, brain, activity and joint and arthritic pain.
      Chlorine is safe to swim in. Unless there are a bunch of piranhas in your swimming pool.

    • @roslynjonsson2383
      @roslynjonsson2383 2 года назад +2

      @@kirk5152 Yes, I know all of that, which is correct, it's just that having lived in Esperance for many years (until disability got me and had to move up to Perth), the amount of tourists that hear "it's safe to swim in pink water, saw it on the Still call Australia home video", and don't know any different, are the ones who end up in the Espy hospital with burns. It's just a safer way to go to mention on social media that you must check with locals before jumping in, to save these things from happening; Its just the responsible thing to do m8 that's all

    Our kids run around with either footballs or cricket balls n bats. We have much to be grateful for in Australia, and have some of the most beautiful landscapes you've ever seen....We have 3 large pink lakes like that one in Western Australia. The one of this ad is just outside of Kalbarri Western Australia, which is the pinkest one left now (we also have 2 pink lakes in Esperance, 1 at Pink Lake the suburb, and 1 on an island off Esperance). The water turns bright pink due to a bacteria that forms over millions of years, it's the heavy rainfall that dilutes the water, so some years the lakes are a lot pinker than others. The pink lakes are extremely high in salt, which can make them acidic, which is why you can fly over the one on the island off Esperance, but the island is closed to the public.....Yes, this is an advert for Qantas - they use the same song, and put new scenery pics every few years, my fav one was 1987, much more and nicer scenery used.

Being so isolated from the World and our friends and families (even internally, State to State borders were closed) was hard. This song by Peter Allen has been around for decades, but Qantas adopted it for its ads and it is a recurring theme. Peter was a great friend of Judy Garland, and married to and divorced from her daughter, Liza Minnelli. He spent most of his professional career overseas, but wrote this song about where his heart remained. Yes - Not a bad commercial. Lots of Aussie 'stars' here. For example; long before Hugh Jackman was in Wolverine he was in Musical Theatre; acting and singing.
    The mountain you commented on is a stunning and unique Australian landmark. At 863 metres height this is Uluru; the world's second largest sandstone monolith (one large solid block of stone). Made even more dramatic by sitting on a completely flat desert plain. The largest is also an Australian; Mount Augustus in Western Australia. These are only around 550 million years old! Think about how sandstone is formed. Most of what is now inland Australia was once a vast inland sea. Called Ayers Rock by white settlers for around 200 years, it was formally returned to it's original First Peoples name in 1993. Uluru and nearby Kata Tjuta are sacred sites for the Aboriginal people, who are the longest continuous surviving human culture in the world and have inhabited Australia for at least 70,000 years. All Australian landscapes play an important role in their spiritual life, as they see themselves as very much part of the earth and visa versa.
    Australia's Pink Lakes are formed on ancient salt pans and their various colours depend on their salt concentration.
    This song was written by the great Aussie Singer/Song writer; Peter Allen. 😊👍

    AT 4.50 ...Hutt Lagoon Pink Lake, AT YALLABATHARRA. WESTERN AUSTRALIA. WHY? Thanks to algae that live in the water, Dunaliella salina.

  • @jayweb51

    The coloured lake is due to algae reacting with the salts in the water. There is a lake in South Australia that is pink and blue.

    Your calling Uluru a mountain is a slight mistake as according to Goggle it is classed as a monolith (A large single block of stone) there are larger stones in the world but Uluru is one singular piece of sandstone rising to 850 meters above the ground but below ground extends another 2.5Km. The rock is sacred to the Aboriginal peoples and is a important part of their Dreamtime Legend's. The kids playing (probably on a cattle station in the Outback) are using a Rugby ball not a AFL ball. Longreach is where Qantas was founded in 1920. That this was a commercial for an airline having this effect makes it one of the best. As you said "We can fly everywhere but Australia's still home" not many countries have that grip on their peoples heart's.

      Calling Uluru a monolith is using a generalization. Uluru is actually an inselberg, to be more precise. Cheers mate :)
