To answer the first question… The point of making music in a world that’s falling apart is because the world is falling apart. Why would someone stop creating art when the world is in a vulnerable place? That’s when artists create THE MOST art.

Why? Because artists naturally go through periods of inspiration and periods of restoration. Especially when you feel as deeply as this guy. We’re not robots. If we’re lucky, when we come out of the dark time, we find it has been a period of fermentation and germination, and we have something refreshing to share - like this amazing song and video, which would never have grown from him if he was always just tra la la’ing through life. Being a feeling, thinking artist is no picnic - at least for some of us. If you’re happy and productive every single day, over the long haul, that’s cool, and I think that might be the anomaly.

That’s a delusional take. We are people as well. It might not be that simple.

absolute gold. this is how music should be promoted in 2024 and beyond - a well-constructed, informative video essay, strong imagery/cinematography, song performance, and an intimate insight into the artist's mind, all in seven minutes. truly great work. keep it up!

"Our Zeitgeist today comes with strong notes of nihilism, of fear, of chaos. When we say the world is falling apart, one large part of it is that Zeitgeist: the world in our minds is falling apart."

Fastest follow of my life, I'm baffled at how you took something that could have easily been an hour long video and made it 7 minutes without feeling like it lost ANYthing, in fact it was everything it needed to be and more. This was tremendously profound and powerful and it resonated with me throughout my core, this video made me cry. The writing, cinematography, music, and your ability to articulate things I've never even been fully able to understand/articulate inside of myself, it was all so special and well done. Props to you mate. I feel inspired, I feel understood, I feel more secure about myself and my place in the world and you accomplished all of that for me through this one short video so I thank you humbly for that.

  • @nullharmony

This hits. As a musician, I ask myself that same question all the time. Especially as someone who comes from a country that is currently at war, I feel like anything that I do has any meaning. And I see this in everyone's eyes - people stop caring, people become nihilistic, and give their minds up to the circumstances.
Yet I always feel like there is a big part of me that doesn't want to get caught up in that flow. A part of me that wishes to care, to create meaning, to be genuine and creative, despite how weird I might seem to everyone around me. And that is exactly the part that drives me on, and the part that I try to nurture. As, if we really want a change, we gotta start with ourselves, with how we interact with the world.
"It can be your house" is such a great line, expressing that sentiment. And you inspire me to act on that once again. Thank you.

@@ColtonBeasleyMusic mid side works by canceling out stereo field. You need a figure 8 style mic to properly achieve it. Just stacking two mics on top of each other won’t get the effect. He’s using a pair of 414s, one of which is turned on its side I’m sure is set to figure 8. You can get a figure 8 mic for much less than the cost of a sm7b. Good luck!

It reminds us we're not alone and also gives us hope and confort. It's not only for the collective world we just drop it, but also to our fellow artists who feel hopeless tired and blocked. This is one of the most beautiful videos i’ve watched in a very long time. For someone who struggles a lot with overflowing thoughts of life choices and the things around us that make us real or not as well as nihilism and the complications of properly trying to understand religion and being in love with music and art as a whole this video made me feel the most comfortable and although i don’t know who you are and how you live this one topic brought me close. It feels as if i’ve spent my entire night just talking to you about this alone, and i know there are others out there who struggle with the same things and think exactly what most who watched this video did or still are. I hope we all can make significant changes to our lives one day and we can reflect on moments like these where we just watched a youtube video and see how others felt the same way, this broad connection we all have with one another truly is beautiful.

So from this the thing that’s important is the emotion you feel with the music, because otherwise it wouldn’t contribute to the Zeitgeist. So what’s then also good to note is that performance pressure is actually destructive to the Zeitgeist. I think that here it’s crucial that you be an artist in a way that you like, not in a way that could make you way better for sure, but also perhaps makes you more stressed and unhappy.

Very powerful and timely message, bro!) As an artist myself totally relate to the feeling of alienation from the world and creativity that haunts me the last few years. And I had to leave my home in Russia because of war and yet keep on creating to earn living, although the sense of meaning was lost. And I gradually came to the same conclusions - as a creative person, you are the mirror of collective consciousness. To hold that mirror is you role, to express the angst, the fears, the confusion, the sarcasm, the vulgarity, the good and the bad around you and show it back at the world is a purpose. Thank you for holding the mirror for me ;) SUbscribed

i dont normally comment, but this is one of the best videos ive seen in a long time. very captivating. thank you for making this and thank you for being personal and vulnerable. i find that its so hard sometimes to share things with the world, but many others feel the same way and its exactly what you expressed.
i find its so easy to be hard on yourself when making goals in so many areas of life. achieving things is great, but so is being happy. this past year ive spread my focus so thin on so many different things. im a full time student, i work full time, i try to make music, try to make videos, code projects, stay in shape, keep my social life in balance, do research, apply for internships, spend time with family. Learning languages, learning instruments, and learning how to market myself out of fear of future failure. I try to learn so many things and i try to do it all myself, all with unrealistic goals and expectations for myself. theres no way to be happy living like this, with constant envy and belittling of yourself by how far you are from the person that you want to be; how much you don't know, and how much you expect from yourself.
I know it might not be particularly what you were going for with the video, but i think the same lesson applies. sometimes you need to focus on building your house and let go of everything else. take that list of everything you wanted to do and cross off everything except for the few things that you really care about, the things that make you happy. you'll never be perfect, so at the very least you should build yourself your own little house, in that metaphorical sense. A house made out of the passion of those few things that you really care about. You can build whatever you want, you just need to choose what its made out of.
Careers are houses. Families are houses. Your health is your house. Your friends are houses. Each skill you learn, and every long-term goal you set, thats one house. You can only have so many houses and you really can't live in them all, if that were true, why do property managers exist? Because one person can't do everything. One person can't manage every property. Live in the important one; the one you care about. Maybe have a vacation home or two. But don't set yourself up for failure by trying to manage 57 different properties at the same time. It's impossible.
In my eyes, this video is a great example of how freeing it is to allow yourself to focus on a work of art that you care about. maybe there were some incentives for you to make this video, but really i just see the passion and focus behind it all. it really was such a great video. great job man, and thank you again for contributing to The Zeitgeist, the collective unconscious. Everything is meaningless, but everything is important.

Great take. My one add would be that maybe the goal of life is to make your house big enough for your career, friends, family, health, and skills to be their own room. Not just figuratively either. I think the issue for many of us is our obligations are split in several physical directions (school, work, gym, fam, internship like you said). I think communities made these all feel less fractured and demanding but as technology took over, it spread us thin. Somehow, we have to pull it together.

Exactly! You've got it so right... the world is our house, and we have 'uninvited guests' leading our house to death. We need to stand up! Your song and creation is absolutely fabulous, it made me silent, made me read the comments, made me watch it again. You have a gift, and I'm happy for us all you have shown it (again) after your block. It's not easy but it must be written !!! 💜 THANK YOU.

So, what are you doing differently to make it better? Watch Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy, What the Health. Do you know what abuse and violence happen for that milk in your coffee? Save yourself, others, animals and the planet by your choices. We all must or accept doom. It’s that simple.

YES! This is what a lot of people need at the moment. I'm sure the algorithm is already working on bringing you a big caring and loving community 'cause I'm sure that there's a lot of people out there looking for that first push to start the journey. The video and the song were amazing. Thanks from the heart and good luck with your path, you're on the high-frequency path and I can already tell. Keep it up, brother.

This was pure art, my friend, thank you for reminding as an artist myself who we truly are for this world. I sometimes used to ask myself the same questions, what art is all good for in a world that is falling apart... but you hit the nail on it's head. We are therapists for the Zeitgeist. Much love from another artist from Italy 🫶🏻❤️

3 years ago I watched your video where you recorded 'Far Away' on cassette, then I came across this today, so then I went back to a recording made 2 years ago, 'You Are My Love' which came after you decided to pursue music full time. Listening to this track and watching the video I have no hesitation in saying your personal and creative growth is impressive and your music is and has always been real and relatable. I think your vocals are
captivating and your bandmates are exactly what a band is all about which is, bring your best and we'll have a blast. The world has always been in chaos, our purpose is to be connected to humanity in small but meaningful way and from what I see and apparently many others in the comments also see is the three of you are exactly where you should be.
