Love the videos! I recently got a hello Dave and I’m very happy with it. I’ve got a 2022 model, does anyone know what the changes are to the newer ones?
The latest version has better rear rotor clearance, on the earlier version you had a limit of 160mm max, it was possible using specific adapters and calipers but a lot of combos didn't work.
Strangely it is not bad in the twisty tight stuff, once you've thrown it into a couple of corners you get a feel for it and tend to lean in much harder and pick better lines. Doesn't seem to have any drawbacks.
@@muddymongoosemtb9873 I was trying to keep it hidden until this video, it was by pure chance I was riding the bossnut when I bumped into you at braefoot, only day in the last month I was on it and not the Dave😀. How is the stem feeling now, are you feeling in a better position now?
Not long got myself a Trek Roscoe 9 shop agreed a size large would be ideal, been riding it around and I just feel like I can’t get an ideal comfortable flat riding position, from your video you seem in a quite nice seated riding position, for the price I’m half tempted to grab a XL Dave & just swap everything right on over to that. My only issue is I do a lot of flat riding/commuting & some single tracks. I don’t have the space for multiple bikes so I need a one trick pony lol, I can’t ever seeing myself using a XC or road bike. How does the Dave handle flats?
The hello dave actually surprises most people with how well it rides up hill and over distance. With the 29er wheels keeping your pace isn't too bad, it's not going to take a road bike but I used mine for a month to commute to my work which at the time was 11miles away so a 22mile round trip every day. I quite liked it but definitely doesn't take any strava times. It would be a good all rounder. It's obviously devastatingly good when used in anger on the trails and when it gets steep.

@@JohnMckMTB Handles really well. The 27.5 170 Zeb has 567mm ATC and the geo comes out to almost the same as a stock 29er. This is definitely a great bike and an interesting choice of tyres/size. I bet would be a struggle climbing. But seems a killer on the way down. Thanks for sharing this, at the min seems the best review about this bike that can be found online. Would you use it during the winter as an alternative to the full sus one? For rainy bogs trails ?
Running the plus size 27.5 means it does really well in the boggy conditions with the right psi. Climbing is actually really good and I found it did well on techy climbs too but it takes a little more effort/timing/technique to lift the front wheel, the sacrifice you take for solid stable downhill handling. The 27.5 worked well for tight and switchy trails. A mullet would work well I think too.
Hi mate, good videos. What are your thoughts on running the Dave 27.5? Does it feel like the bottom bracket is too low? Contemplating giving my Dave frame to my brother but he’s just bought a very nice set of 27.5 wheels he won’t want to give up!
The dave in 27.5 formation is a real lowslung, map of the earth type ride. In the corners it seems to have endless grip if you have taken the right position and tricky switch backs are less troublesome. You lose a little of the roll over 29er feel but not too much. The BB/cranks are lower but I never found any issues with pedal strike more than the norm on my other bikes, my santa cruz bronson was far worse and that was running the wheelset it should have been.
Yeah, I love the handling and despite the weight, climbs nice. Shame the price for the frame jumped. Its now probably cheaper to by the full build and then sell off the parts you don't want and upgrade.
@@TheBikingVikingDude how heavy is it. Was thinking the two main drawbacks are the weight and cornering. Going to wait, I think they are bringing out a ti frame🙏
@@martymcloughlin12 it corners really nice even when tight, there is a little adjustment period as you get used to the length but it feels really good once you trust it. The weight you do adjust for quite quickly on the climb, not sure the actually weight but ill get it on the scales in the next day or 2 and let you know.
So the hello Dave is a great deal right now (shipped $500 US dollars) The issue I have is that I have 40 mm 27.5 wheelset and 160 27.5 fork I’m flip flopping between the poly t8 full squish and the on one I rode both ht and full Where I live in NY it’s rocky rooty and at times muddy Would the 27.5 be that much slower? And would 27.5 2.8 look out of place on the hello Dave? Thank you Robert
The 2.8 looked great on the rear, 3.0 looked amazing. As for riding they made the frame feel a little snappier in the tight trails and not overly slow compared with running 29er wheels, tyre compound and design really makes the biggest difference. I liked the large volume on the rear for soaking up a little of the trail chatter when dealing with rock gardens and roots. The poly isn't a bad option but if I had both infront of me to choose from I'd take the dave 😉. Ots a proper riot to ride, climbs wheel despite what the geo figures look like and you'll always have a conversation starter standing beside it on the trail.
