Complete REPAIR of Massive Bulldozer Yokes! | Sandblasting, Machining, Metal Arc Spray!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2024
- Watch as we restore a pair of worn-out blade lift yokes from a massive Caterpillar D11 bulldozer. In this video, we'll guide you through the entire repair process, from the initial sandblasting to the final coat of paint!
First, we'll remove the rust and old paint using our Rapidblast dustless blasting system. Then, to ensure the structural integrity of the yokes we'll conduct a crack test using our Magnaflux Y8 magnetic particle testing kit. To provide a clear visual demonstration, we'll also use this testing kit to identify cracks in a mining truck strut rod. Once we've confirmed the yokes' suitability for repair, we'll measure their bearing surfaces to assess the extent of wear. Then, we'll prep the first yoke by machining an undercut and rough threading it in our lathe. After that, we'll transfer the yoke to our Shenyang lathe for metal arc spraying using our Metallisation i450 machine. While the first yoke cools, we’ll repeat the process with the second. Finally, we’ll finish machining both of them to precise OEM tolerances before giving them a fresh coat of glossy black paint to restore their original appearance. The end result is a pair of yokes that look and perform like new. Join us as we showcase the skill, precision, and attention to detail that goes into restoring these vital components!
In this video we are using:
- RapidBlast SD140 system
- Metallisation i450 arc spray machine
- Hafco TM-26120G Centre Lathe
- Shenyang CW6280B Lathe

Favourite part is easy the whole video because I lean stuff every time. Oh plus I love tools 😂😂
Favourite part of any complete repair process.... Outtakes where (you know who) tries to explain .... something... and Karen has to help!
Man! I love your videos and I keep watching again and again and never get bored. Keep doing what you do ❤. By the way I just want to let you know I am from India ❤. Thank you.
I think we can all agree that Homie is always the best part.
Terveisiä Suomesta... 🙂
I love the careful considered way everything is done, no false drama, no flashing lights and screaming music for effect just skill in the work and charisma in the presentation. Thankyou for taking time to post these.
Hey mate thanks for the great comment we're glad you appreciate our approach to creating videos. We try to focus on the work and the process, and let the footage speak for itself. We're happy to share our passion for machining with you, and we hope to continue making videos that you enjoy. Cheers! 😄
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering And once again massive kudos to the editing. I keep wondering why this is one of my favorite channels when I have zero to do with machining and it's the quality of editing. First rate!
@@CuttingEdgeEngineeringIt works very well. This is easily my favorite machining channel on the platform!
I was amazed how he brought them back in the workshop after painting, stood up on the plate. After all of that work I feared them falling and getting dinged😢
@@CuttingEdgeEngineeringOh its recognized and massively appreciated. You are NAILING it.
The whole time you were crack testing the yokes I was telling myself "wish he would show something with a crack in it" and you did, thank you. Again, I don't know how you do and know everything you do but you are amazing. Keep it up.
It could be Karen's input, asking the same questions that we are. Sometimes the only dumb quesrion is the unasked/unanswered one.
Now only if we could see how that black spray would look on a crack without the use of that magnet, that would compete it.
Kurtis states that the magnaflux is a good way to detect cracks, and sprays the white primer. I immediately agree as I can see a large crack already. Looking carefully, I can see it is actually a Labrador hair stuck to the iPad screen. After cleaning the screen, and hearing Kurtis finally agree that there are no cracks in the work, I think that this is probably the first time that magnaflux has crack tested and cleared a piece of work and an iPad at the same time. Gotta love multi tasking
Yep, good work lol😂
The fine curly whiskers while machining also look just like individual Afghan hound fur.
MARVIN THE MARTIAN
He even does great work remotely!!
Damn dogs you got to love them, what would we do without them
So for those who are interested, a little more detail on how that crack detection system Curtis is using here actually works. The method he is using is called Magnetic Particle Inspection or MPI. It is a non destructive method using a hand held electromagnet called a yoke. The yoke is energized with electricity. This generates a magnetic field because wherever you have electricity you have a magnetic field and Visa versa . Can't have one without the other. The magnetism is imparted to the piece under inspection. All magnetic fields have what are called flux lines running from the north to south poles of the field. The ink Curtis sprayed on has very fine iron particles immersed in bay oil. The particles will line themselves up along the flux lines. If there is a crack in the material the flux lines will be disrupted by the crack. This will create another north and south pole around the crack which the iron particles will be attracted to allowing the crack to be seen. This method can detect very fine cracks in any material that will hold a magnetic charge and can also see sub surface cracks up to about 5 mm depth. It is used primarily to detect surface breaking cracks however. MPI is one of five non destructive methods commonly used in industry, automotive repair and aerospace to detect cracks. The others are
Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI), which we have seen Curtis use.
Radiographic Inspection (RT) Basically X-Ray for detecting internal cracks.
Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) Using sound wave refraction to detect internal cracks. Can also be used to determine material thickness with a great degree of accuracy.
Eddy Current Inspection. (ET) Used to locate internal cracking and is similar to MPI in that it measures impedance in electrical fields caused by cracks. Very common in the aerospace industry.

Kurtis has mastered not only the sandblaster and spray welder, he can now paint and plastic wrap like a pro! Great video Karen, you make this all look so easy. Cheers from Texas!
🤠🐂
"... like a pro"??
he IS a pro, and at so many tasks
we're so lucky this talented team shares their excellent work with an appreciative audience
Please please please don’t change the format, K/K! One a week released on Friday. I look forward to this all week and it makes my Friday all the happier.
I'm willing to bet that if you re-wrap Homey's toys in old boxes he will be just as excited and happy to unwrap them as he is on new toys.
Hah we will definitely do this. The box could be empty and he'd still have the best time opening it 😂
especially if he's allowed to destroy the boxes himself 😆
Good & funny idea. Actually, that makes me wonder whether Homeless behaves like cats regarding the cardboard boxes and similar wrapping material, because cats tend to be more interested in the wrapping more than the actual gift content inside, from what I have seen in countless RUclips cat videos. 😄😆🐈😺 Come to think of it, there are quite a few CEE videos I have seen where Homie gets new toys in the mail from kind subscribers and other friendly viewers, but other than him being diligent and effective at destroying the wrapping before exposing the gift fully, it does not look like Homeless has got a preference for playing with cardboard wrappings, other than being allowed to destroy something at semi-regular intervals. 🐶🐕😄😂
Except there are no "Homey's old toys" - just bits of eaten toys. :D
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Pets don't care what you give them, as long as you spend time with them. I ran out of cat treats, so I bought a small bag of dry cat food (a different kind) and gave it to them at snack time. They didn't care what it was I gave them, only that they got my full attention and love I am so lucky I get to spend 24/7 with my cats and share everything together..
Karen, the before & after comparison shots at the end with the fade in effect was very professionally done. You are an editing master.
Been watching this channel for 3 years. And still, to this day, it is the best craftsman/whorshop channels on youtube. Period
The franna crane project might be my favorite RUclips-series of all time but this was an amazing video. I have been working in the mining industry for 17 years and have ordered multiple crack tests but I have never actually seen one done so this was really interesting for me personally and also seeing the spray welder in action was just icing on the cake.
Also: please, please, please releause a video with more of the outtakes. They are just fantastic!
Cheers from Sweden!
The crack testing demo was quite interesting, thanks for taking the time to show us that
kKH,Kurtis,Karen, you must get sick of the accolades but i have to say your work ethics are amazing,to take the time to show your SUBS.how you test for cracks is great, the people who get you to do their repairs are very fortunate that’s my opinion, thanks from Perth for the vid.🇦🇺👌👌👌👌👌👌ps Karen great stuff 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah I was watching him test the yokes not knowing what I'm looking for. So glad they took the time to show us 👍
My opinion Kurtis is one of the hardest working, technically clued up and likeable person on RUclips, total legend and an honorary Englishman !!!
Not sure an Aussie would appreciate being called "an Englishman".. ;-)
@@MrKotBonifacy Well being called an "honorary Englishman" is a compliment 100% , don't forget it was us who invented and perfected much of this stuff :) , cheers.

@@daleburrell6273 Yeah Good old England and tech. Even the F1 RedBull and Mercedes factory is in England and that for a very good reason.

The clip with Kurtis blasting and being filmed from the other side of the lathe is basically every kids spaceman/flame thrower fantasy. Well done. The cinematic's are just as incredible as the machining repairs. Flawless execution👍👌🇦🇺

I'm also impressed by your ability to constantly find ways to improve anything and everything you come into contact with, because as we all know, "good enough" never is.
Cheers for demoing the positive crack test. Never used one so always wondered how easy it was
glad it was helpful!
The 1 that I saw used used red instead of black, 1 is as good as the other
@@dirtfarmer7472red might have been a dye penetrant test rather magnaflux which uses tine iron particles to highlight cracks. Both serve the same purpose.
Thank you for the comparison between good metal and cracked metal, it was quite illustrative and provided quite some appreciation for how easily cracks can be found or confirmed not present under the right conditions.
That dustless blaster is such an impressive piece of kit. What a time saver!
I reckon Kurtis would use it all day long if he could 😂
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Nice to play spraying water about in the Queensland heat. :D

There is no better feeling than the excitement of a customer seeing the results of a new, vastly improved process like that. I know that feeling of pride in your work; it can't be beaten.
I'll be right there with you if these pieces stand up to the wear and tear they're about to experience, w/o spalling.
Some Customers are lucky they are getting served with high quality service, and they get to watch and witness their job being done. Great video.
It's an absoulte win-win all around.

When you're saving the customer an arm and a leg and you're still stacking, doing something so few people do. You love to see it.
There's something so very satisfying seeing those yokes going from messy start to completely clean finished. The client(s) must be really happy with the work you do... The attention to detail is amazing, down to the preparation for transport
The more and more I watch, the better I’m at understanding Australian. The 1st few episodes I had no idea what Kurtis was saying. 🤣🤣 Thank you both for your hard work and educating us. Cheers from the USA 🇺🇸

You can't imagine how many home mechanics & tinkerers get jealous every time you use the rapidblast!😊

To cover your blasting hoses get an old fire water hose and put them through that, it works brilliant
Worked as a welder repair tech many years ago and that's exactly what we used for situations like that
You continue to blow my mind as to what is possible to repair. What a time to be alive with this kind of technology.
Impressive work as always! I just spent 7 hours tonight torching a cracked high pressure chamber out of a lead extruder tonight. After a hot shower and a few to many cold beers, your videos complete my night. 1am US. Thank you Brother and Mrs Brother. Thomas, Mississippi, USA!!

Kurtis has some serious skills and knowledge without question, But I think Karen's videography is bloody amazing. Kurtis, Karen makes your work process and skills look awesome ! May you both always prosper and may God watch over you guy's and homie !
Karens video editing skills are superb. Just right- timelapse and jump cuts to show the whole job without needless repetition!
My Friday wouldn’t be complete without your videos. I enjoyed watching the new flame sprayer
Kurtis and Karen you both highlight eachother with your excellent machine work and excellent videos. Kurtis you make following you and the work you are doing so easy to even a person like myself that knows absolutely zero about machine work. Karen you make watching and following Kurtis so easy and enjoyable. Great work by both of you. Also I was amazed at that machine you were using to apply metal and ending up with such a level surface. Another fun video to watch.
Homie has perfected his "But, mother, that is clearly untrue" look.
I paid an absurd amount of money for a Lego technic D11 for my son. I have to say, it's awesome. And huge, at least the same size as the distance between the forks on those yokes. Really nice to see you working on some D11 parts. You guys do such great work, on both sides of the camera. Thanks for all of it.
Favourite part? The whole video 😉 Karen is truly professional and so are you Kurtis, and the bloopers are always to enjoy. Give SO Homey plenty of pats.

Hey mate thanks for the kind words! We really do love what we do, and it's great that you can see it through our videos. We're so grateful you've been a subscriber for four years! Cheers!
Brilliant work on both sides of the camera. The care taken by both of you is remarkable.
Every time I watch these videos I keep reflecting on how Kurtis deals with OHS. The overhead crane is used in so many shots where a real machinist would just heave and lift, it's only 40kg or so. As someone who has eight screws and two plates in my left hand as a result of She,l be right mate I can definitely relate to that.
Well done you for setting the example for those of us who fly solo in the machine shop.
I always look forward to Friday morning when your videos arrive here, coffee hot, feet up on the desk and a little content from Aus. That's my Friday morning ritual!
Oh,...and I enjoy the commentary Curtis provides, I know somewhere right near zero about machining stuff, so having the reason for the way things are done is enlightening.
I also really appreciate the thoughtful production side of the capture and edit of these storeys. The last couple of generations of media consumers have seen so much stuff over the decades and most of us really have no idea how much time, effort and especially skill goes into a cohesive, enjoyable production.
Oh!! And Flea-Roy the shop hound is wacky AF too. He's the best intermission ever.
Thanks Team Bris-Vegas!
What an awesome video! You don't often find a shop that can do all the testing, surface prep, coating, machining and finish painting needed on this job. Really impressive, guys.
