  • This s is my go-to method for stuffing the neck of an amigurumi to prevent a wobbly head. I saw a video with this process a year or two ago, but I don't remember where I saw it in order to give proper credit.
There are some times around the five-minute mark where my hands go out of the camera's view...sorry, I'm a RUclips Newbie. I'm just pushing the tube into the neck and pulling on the sides of the neck. It's a bit of a struggle to get it in, but it works.

If it is another kind of animal that doesn’t have a long neck, and you make the body, decrease, and then increase for the head, you can try this: after the last round of decrease, slip stitch in the back loop only around, then on the increase round, put your crochet hook into the front loop of the decrease round and the front loop of the slip stitches. Works great!

I’ve found that polyester wadding ( batting ) cut to length and rolled up tight, then wrapped is a good way also.

I've been trying to come up with a washable solution to this that wasn't expensive or hazardous, and actually works for so long. It was in front of me the whole time! you're a genius lol

Oh wow that's really smart! Just using our regular crochet supplies 😭💕 I'm going to save this for any potential future projects when I need a firm limb, thanks!

Hi Elaine!! Thank you for this. HOW do I get the head of a doll (with a large head), sturdy? I am making one for my great granddaughter. It looks as if you have a lot of experience with amigurumi. 💜💜

If the openings for the head and body line up, you can put the tube through the body and into the head. With some projects, where you're sewing a large head onto the body, I think you just need to have a larger base to sew on. I've had some patterns take the head down to 6 stitches and expect you to sew the head on with those 6 stitches. I would stop at 12 or 18 stitches instead and sew on with that bigger base. But I don't really know if this is answering your question, because I don't know how your project was structured.

Omg! that's genius! I made Greta Hen from Pica Pau and I had trouble with the neck. I tried the foam curler, but this would have worked so much better! I wish I would have seen this before. Thanks for the hack

I've seen people say they crochet a tube and stuff that to put inside the neck... but it's so much work! As you can see from the video, you can do this pretty quick!
