(this is mel) ...and I say yes, bc she'll be training, sparing with Bobby Finke.

Stanford never knew what to do with her. Hoping Nesty does.

Nesty is one of the finest coaches in the business. As well she's training with the likes Bobby Finke, Kieran Smith and Calib Dressell.

Let's see.. at Standford Katie got worse across the board except the 1500 WR.. which she got at a time when she was supposed to be broken down and not go a best time (and then she tapered and did horribly). Very glad to see her leave Meehan. Florida seems like a great choice. Good luck Katie!!

As a Gator, this is fantastic news. Should help women's recruiting, and Katie gets some serious training partners to push her further.

Very good move. Stanford being in Santa Clara County has the stricted restrictions with Covid. And they continue. Being on the East coast she is closer to her family. No one even thought about the high taxes in California, so moving to Florida will help.

Two things. First - it is great she is mixing things up. The saying goes: If you always do what you’ve always done you will always get what you’ve always got. Granted this is KL and that isn’t bad! Stanford is the comfortable old shoe and maybe it was just time. I do honestly believe that she wanted to be closer to family and the pandemic helped to open that door. Second, (this is for Braden) - KL is a strategic thinker and this shows it, she needs a change to spice things up and has enough self knowledge to act on it. If the races with Ariane this summer helped, so be it. Finding new motivation or whatever she needs at UF with Finke and Nesty makes sense. More men to challenge her in the pool and a different mid set out of it perhaps? Wishing her all the luck! Oh, and this is no reflection on Stanford at all!!

Might be a little culture shock at first. But I thought she might make this move when she saw Finke swim his races. She is no way impulsive, except perhaps when she is racing and she does play chess so a strategic thinker indeed. Stanford degree trumps Florida but it seems in competition she did more for Stanford than it did for her as a swimmer. Have been a runner and distance runners don’t reach their prime until their 30’s. Granted they are thin as sticks but your body takes a pounding when you run so why is everyone so sure she is on the downswing at 24. I thought perhaps she might go back to NCap but there isn’t anyone for her to chase there. It was really a shame that the US didn’t have another swimmer who could come close to her time in the 200 as they would easily have won that relay.

Braden you're the best, I really appreciate you. I don't have lots else to say but Braden, bro, love your input dude.

Katie Ledecky did not really have good years with Stanford. Her times were slowed down in the period which is supposed to be her peak years. She gained so much weight that her suit almost squeezed her muscle out, surely not a good thing for a distance swimmer.

How does swimming work post grad? Do you ask a coach to let you swim with them after graduating? Do you pay for a coach post grad if it is the same coach from college or only if it is a different coach? Is being a volunteer swim coach a requirement to swim with a new coach?

Purselmer While in college the athletes do not pay their coach right? How does paying work after graduation?

@@purselmer5931 Do pro swimmers also pay the university for the use of the facilities? Thanks for sharing about paying the coaches; I've always been curious about that.

I think she’s done with the 200 and maybe even the 400. She’s gonna go all in on her bread and butter distance events.
